View Full Version : "THREESOME" - An underrated gem...
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000059XTJ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
THREESOME is one of my favorite college movies of all time (along with The Rules Of Attraction), it's a funny, touching, and truthful film. I think THREESOME is an underrated gem and if you haven't seen it I highly recommend picking it up. I've had all of my friends watch this movie and they all liked it.
What does everyone else think of it?

Well, I haven't seen it, but I know why. It's got Stephen fucking Baldwin. That makes it impossible for this movie to be good. He is incapable of a good performance.

I love this movie! It is in my DVD collection. I think it is under-rated too. It's a fun light entertaining movie about college. My favorite 20 something movie of this genre though is "Reality bites."
By the way, the soundtrack to "threesome" might even be better than the movie itself. It is great. My favorite song on it is "Strong enough" by brian ferry.

I found this film very entertaining and very funny.
However, it failed to solve any of the dilemma's it brought up, and I learnt absolutely nothing as a result.
However, it is very entertaining and very funny...

3Some (remember they had that on their dorm room door)... forgot about this move.. but it was definitely funny! stephen baldwin might not be the best actor overall, but he sure did play a good college student... his scenes are hilarious...

I own the soundtrack as well and was listening to it this morning. As I came into this topic just now I had the song "Strong Enough" in my head. I just thought it was kind of funny how you mentioned that was your favorite song on the soundtrack and I had it in my head while reading your post.

I don't like Stephen Baldwin either but you shouldn't let that stop you from seeing the movie, it's still excellent despite him being in it...

Yeah, I guess. But somethings got to keep me from seeing movies. I have to have some kind of standards. Otherwise I'd see every piece of shit out there. I refused to see Ballistic because Antonio Banderas was in it, and apparently saved myself some aggravation. And I should have listened to my instincts about The Big Hit. Mark Wahlberg sucks, as does Lou Diamond Phillips. But I went against my better judgement, and rented it anyway. Guess what? Waste of money and time. Not surprisingly. I think at least 80 % of the shit released nowadays is shit. I know Mike, that our tastes differ dramatically. I wouldn't even consider seeing Blue Crush or Swimf@n, but you would. That's cool. That's why they make those movies, cause they have an audience. But I'm not one of them. Hell, I'm not even the demographic they're shooting for. I'm too old.

That really is quite bizarre! *cue twilight zone music*. I actually bought the soundtrack simply because I loved that song so much, and the rest of them ended up being pretty good too (for the most part). That was like the ONE time I had good luck buying a CD blindly.

Grebdron-
I often subject myself to crappy movies like "Swimfan", "Stealing harvard" etc too, but I think it's mainly so I can go on a rant afterwards about how bad they were :)
There is just something so enjoyable about bitching about bad movies and bad actors.

Before this thread I've never even heard of it! But it does have Stephen Baldwin and Lara Flynn Boyle (who both get on my nerves) so I'm not that interested...

Iamjack-- Very good point! Stephen Baldwin took a break from his masterpieces like "Biodome" and "flintstones viva rock vegas" and made a quality movie in "Usual Suspects."
Who woulda thunk?

Horror Whore, my cousin can't stand Stephen Baldwin or Lara Flynn Boyle but she thought this was a really good movie. I was really hoping you would check this out. I read pretty much all of your reviews and I find myself usually being able to guess what you will rate a movie before you even see it. I can usually just tell if you will enjoy a movie or not and how much you will love it or hate it. I really suggest you check this movie out, I KNOW you will like it and I see you giving it AT LEAST a 7/10. It's a really funny and truthful college movie. Trust me on this one, give it a chance.
I just realised I didn't post a plot description for those that aren't familiar with the movie. So here it is:
Thanks to Alex's boyish-sounding name and a computer error, the university housing office mistakes her for a male student and assigns her to a men's suite. Since life has given her lemons, Alex is going to make lemonade. Shortly after moving into her dorm room she develops a sexual longing for handsome, brainy suite-mate Eddy. But super-hunk Stuart, Alex's other suite-mate, has been trying to seduce her. Things really get complicated when Eddy begins to experience a sexual awakening, and discovers he's attracted to Stuart. Before long the whole affair is so messy, the threesome will have to find some way to resolve their lust filled triangle in order to maintain their friendship.

My favorite song on the soundtrack is definitely "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order. I've always loved that song. In fact, I was just listening to it a little bit ago.

I totally forgot about this little charmer, even though I must've seen it a couple of times when it was showing over here on pay-tv.
As far as I can recall, I didn't like the ending, especially the scene where we see the threesome as boring grown-ups, but up until that point it's a undemanding delight. The lead performances were all strong and I still wonder about the subsequent careers of the main players and the director, who showed potential.
Andrew Fleming has done little noteworthy since.
I liked Stephen Baldwin here and in THE USUAL SUSPECTS. Hell, he even delivered in the little-seen, but effective black comedy CRIMETIME, but otherwise I agree he's annoying.
Lara Flynn Boyle was great here and is one of those wasted potentials, especially when you consider MEN IN BLACK II. She's soooooooo hot and a fine actress, too, but no one seems to take notice, since she appears mostly in crap movies.
However, THREESOME is definitely worth a rent!

Threesome is a great movie...It's the movie that inspired me to have my first threesome, and I haven't stopped since.

Threesome is great!!,
The reason I originally saw it was because I am a huge Twin Peaks fan and loved seeing all the characters from it in different movies. Threesome then became one of my fave movies! If you like Threesome try watching Splendor , it's not as good as Threesome but Gregg Araki is a great director and he uses color and lighting really effectively in all his films!

First time i saw it was when i was in college freshamn year... I went to the campus video store with my girl freind from back home, she was still in high school, a junior. Well we asked the video clerk for a good college movie, and he said that 3some was a great depiction of college life, so we got it.
Wow, try and explain that movie to a very reserved high school girl... hehe, somehow she still stayed with me for a while though.

I thought this too, but I thought he did a good job in "The Usual Suspects" along with the rest of the cast. I still hate Baldwin though, but damn that movie is good.

:eek:WHAT!? BLOCKBUSTER doesn't have it!? I thought those losers were supposed to carry pretty much everything, especially a movie like this that just came out in 1994.
Anyway, if I were you I would just check half.com and order a used copy on VHS for a couple of bucks and watch it, then if you want you can just sell it again on the net for what you paid for it or a little more.

That's EXACTLY what I'm doing. I have around 200+ VHS movies and I listed all of them on Amazon and one by one, I'm replacing them with DVD. The only thing that sucks is when you have some that aren't out on DVD yet, then I have to hold onto them. The only VHS movies I'm not getting rid of are the ones that I got as gifts, I just wouldn't feel right about it.
Anyway, the cheapest I found Threesome for was for $14.27 at www.deepdiscountdvd.com , and S/H is free. I buy movies from them all of the time and the service is great, plus they claim to have the cheapest overall online price (because most places you have to pay S/H) and this is actually true in most cases, unless you buy a movie somewhere else used or something. Anyway, I don't know if you want to pay that much, but if $14.27 is in your budget, you can't go wrong there. Plus, the movie is excellent and well worth the $$$, I doubt you will be disappointed.

It's for the DVD... I went to Best Buy and Media Play last year to buy it and they both wanted around $20 for it. The Deep Discount DVD price is much more appealing to me and I plan on ordering it from them, I just haven't done it quite yet.
