Hello, guys... I'm from Brazil, so don't expect a good English... it's far from it. :p
Ok, first of all, it's important to you to know that I'm a addict in games. I've been playing it since i was around three or four years old... Heh, a long time, I'd say.
Whatever... let's direct to the point: between all games I've ever played, there's one i really love, love and love. Of course, it's The Legend Of Zelda.
Who have played, and is fan, knows. It's not "just a game", it has aGREAT history, with such wonderfuls places, characters, suprises... besides, there is emotion, the most important.
I think that Zelda has potential to become the first good movie based on a videogame. I would even far, saying that this movie could be one of the bests ever made.
But of course, for that, the project must be on safe hands. I mean, i don't wanna see a "Zelda Trash". I wanna see an epic, a beatiful fantasy, in all senses.
I decided to say it here, because of a simple purpose: I CAN'T WAIT ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, what do you think?

The thought has occured to me as well, specifically, a movie based on OCARINA OF TIME.
Unfortunately there's never even been the barest whisper of a rumor about such a project. Fans would love to see it, but until one of us pitches it to a producer it's not much more than speculation.

that'd be very cool, but who would play link?

Elijah Wood would be a cool link...or maybe that's just because Link's outfit makes me think of Peter Pan. :D

How about Orlando Bloom? He's got the elf thing down pat.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA has quite a bit more story than the usual video game, as well as an epic, LOTR style quality. It'd work great as a film, as would NINJA GAIDEN.

Elijah Wood would be perfect, but otherwise, imagine the situation:
PERSON #1: Oh, did you see? The Legend Of Zelda at movies!
PERSON #2: Really?! Oh, who is the actor that interpret Link?
PERSON #1: The-one-who-played-Frodo-in-Lord-of-the-Rings.
:(
Although, I still think that the Child-Link is more important! Huh... Harley Joe Osciment, what do you think?
Well, and I agree with Ender. It must start with OCARINA OF TIME!

Great suggestion, Syxxpac!
But we're only suggesting LOTR people here...maybe we should think about someone original. :p

Has anyone ever wondered why they always make movie versions of computer games which don't have much of a story? There are at least dozens of old games which had pretty cool and interesting stories.
Think of the old point & click adventure games from Sierra and Lucasarts, and if you go even further, the old text games from the likes of Magnetic Scrolls and Infocom (I wonder if that was the name...).
And Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis would have been a great storyline for the new Indy movie. It was very cinematic and easy to translate to screen.

I've been wanting a LEGEND OF ZELDA film for long time!
The game has such a great storyline that it could transfer well to screen and actually break the curse of video game movies being mediocre at best.

Umm, first off, the Zelda storylines suck. They're just your usual "save the princess and save the world" fantasy fare.
Movies with good stories that would make good movies:
Half Life
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill

First of all, Adam, the Zelda series does NOT have more story than many games because the main character doesn't talk. (which it a bad trend thats been set for most western RPGs) Secondly, the most movieworthy game in my opinion would be Deus Ex (Go hard with those dilemmas David Fincher) and maybe Max Payne would be good fun if they cleaned up the plot a little, and the dead lock to play Max... Hugh Jackman.

Hey, of course that Zelda has a good story! Yeah, it's a "Save-The-World-Game", but so? It dowsn't mean an awful movie. I would recomend this link for more information about the story...

If God sent a milacre, and someone decided to make OCARINA OF TIME, you see it would be very diffcult. OoT is the 4th episode of Link's saga, so there's a lot of occurrence ocurred before it. But with a good scrept, it would make sense. I mean, it could have flashbacks, prologues and so on, in order to facilitate the understanding of the saga.

I myself am also an addict (over 1,200 games can do that) i have beaten 90% of the games made by nintendo and sega alike. I have spent half my life in front of the tv playing video games and the other half watching movies.
I have thought about this topic MANY MANY MANY TIMES! but the thing you must realize is that you cant make a movie on one game. You must break it up because if you were to make one movie based on it it would be WAY TOO FUCKIN LONG!
just giving my two cents

Halo would make a cool movie...

Yeah Ristow!! Great idea! It would be a GREAT movie, but a great director and staff must be called. So, we'll see Link, Zelda and Gannondorf in the big screen!

this topic was brought up before. ever since, i was wondering if this would make a good movie. well the obvisious answer would be yes. i personally think that the zelda storyline is very very cool, just like the game. but if it was messed up enough, it would look like THE NEVERENDING STORY. we DO NOT want that. the storyline for the n64 ocarina of time would be a sweet movie. but incoporate some of the other games into the storyline as well. as for the actor that portrays link, if you can remember ocarina of time, there are 2 links. a child one and a adult one. the child one should be brave, but be a real small, skinny kid. then the adult link should be a real badass and represent. also, A LINK TO THE PAST would make a interesting story also. that is my favorite game, the dark and light world, mixed in with the adult and child link of the n64 would make for one kick ass story. anyway im ranting on, it would be awesome, i would be there on opening night.

I agree and disagree. First, the agreement: Those three suggestions would make killer movies, and I gladly be there opening day for each and every one of them, especially MGS. Now for the disagreement: Yes, Zelda has a very basic surface, but when you think about it, so does LOTR. Yet LOTR was an awesome epic movie, and is probably on a lot of movie buffs' favorites of all time list.

Zelda would be bitchin, but only if the right person made it. That's the case with most videogame movies. If it were to fall into the wrong hands it would be a disaster i.e Resident Evil and Super mario Brothers. The story is actually pretty complex once you get into it. It's no Final Fantasy but look what happened to that movie as well. If this project ever happened, it needs someone that pays as much attention to detail as Peter Jackson did with LotR.

i agree with that. sam raimi was quoted that if the director has a passion and loved the story, then they would do to the best of their ability directing the movie. someone like that would have to take control of the zelda movie. someone who loves the zelda games and saga would have to make the movie. AHH, THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME A ZELDA MOVIE.

I was just thinking about it: WHEN ARE THEY GONNA MAKE A ZELDA MOVIE?!
Anyways, I can't wait. I think Elijah Wood or Orlando Bloom would both be perfect for the part of Zelda.

I agree that Zelda would be a great movie, and there a plently of top notch actors that could play as Link, the only problem I can forsee though is that many people not familiar with the game would pass it off as a "Lord of the Rings wannabe", and Zelda is not that what so ever. So I think it would have to be released a couple of years after Return of the King so that a Zelda movie could get the respect it deserves, because it's a pretty incredible story, in my opinion anyways.

When I went to see The Two Towers the other day, they had an avertisement which showed a hooded figure speaking about how a boy who saved the world but when the camera panned around to the hooded figures face it was a young woman asking "Now whos going to save me" I swear this commercial was so amazing for me, it looked like a movie, Holy shit a zelda movie I said to myself but then whamo nintendo gamecube flashed across the screen and they were avertising the new zelda game which looks horrible. So what I seen on that commerical for the game, I say the movie could work with the right person at the helm. Who could play Orlando Bloom would make a great Link but who would play Zelda? If you remember back in the late 80s early 90s they had a Zelda cartoon, they had some interesting storylines. So yes it could work.

Yeah i had thought of this idea like a month ago.. i was thinking about two ways this project could be persued.
As a t.v series.
or a big budget picture.
now if a picture were to be made alot of things would have to be changed adn rearranged. dont go looking for a direct game to movie port. remember what for a Great gamer takes 20 hours to complete can only be put into at the most a 3 hour moive.

also do realize the fact that if there is anything even slightly wrong with it ppl are gonnajust call it a "cheesy lord of the rings knock off" . I have always envisiond this series as avery dark movie. Ocarina of time jumps out to me particularly.

If a Zelda movie was made, it'd either have to be made fully with CGI like Final Fantasy and make the characters look slightly anime style or wait a few years and make a kick-ass live action one. Either way, it would rock.
