Tesis is a great film and Amenabar is also quickly becoming one of my favorites. He's a genius. It's a film that should be seen byanyone who liked The Others or Open Your Eyes.

I always felt that The Ring was heavily influenced by this excellent but relatively unknown freshman effort by Amenabar.Especially the the whole videotape scrutinization theme, and how the protagonists in both films unravel the mystery of a particular homicidal entity as a result of their research.

The Ring just happened to put it in a more fantastical setting, whereas Thesis is rooted in an unsettling reality that has more dire consequences since it's supposed to based on real life events.

I highly recommend this film, because even though the budget was obviously very low,Amenabar compensates with excellent writing, a compelling premise, heavy subtext, and surprisingly competent performances from all involved.

The only minus i can think of is the ending. It seems somewhat silly and cliched, typical.I can't fault Amenabar for that, considering he was only in his early twenties when he made this film.

Fans of intelligent psychological horror should get a hold of this, you won't be disappointed.

I finally got around to seeing this last night; it's quite difficult to get it out of my head.

It's disturbing and makes it's point well without ever becoming preachy. Good performances all round: Eduardo Noriega is becoming a fave of mine; (the Prof looked alarmingly like James Cameron to me :D ).

I love this movie. A low-key, intelligent psychological thriller that you just know some Hollywood hack is going to remake. This film has more tension and suspense in any two minutes of its running time, than the entire length of 8MM and THE RING (American version).

Amenabar is great. With just $500,000 made this his first movie and won 7 Goyas, and why? Because he made something that not much people can do right now: he wrote a great script and directed it as Hitchcock would have done it: as a master of suspense. Great.

Thesis is a hreat film, I am spanish and I got to see this back in the day, I knew Amenabar would become what he has, and the best part is that it is just the beginning.
Hey Damned Martian, why in the hell do you have a picture of jasus Vazquez there? :D

Tesis is a very good film and highly recommended. Features the best stalk sequence I've seen in quite some time (the one where one suspect walks after our heroine at their school) and tons of other highly memorable scenes (loved the "oh-shit-no-matches-left" part). Also a good message underneath the mayhem, for example just what happens with the "deadly" video-tape in the end or one guy's rambling about how filmmakers are bound to do what people want to see.

That Anemabar is one talented guy, I loved "Tesis" and "The Others" and I'll be watching "Open your Eyes" soon. Since M. Night Shyamalan seems to already have had his day in putting out unconventional good movies (Sixth Sense & Unbreakable) that still make money, I guess that Anembar will replace him as "Kick-ass director with weird name". Anybody with me?

Ok I blindly bought this puppy from Skank and boy was I pleasently suprised. Sometimes its hard getting into Spanish cinema for me but since Ive seen so many films in the past year it is becoming easier. At first it was hard to find emotion in the Spanish acting that I found in American film. I have found it refreshing to break out of that mould. This first happened with Open Your Eyes, another Alejandro flick. I saw Vanilla Sky and just felt it played out better and contained all the right emotion. However I learned to enjoy its Spanish counterpart. After hearing about the premise for this film and being in love with Abre Los Ojos, I needed to check this out. Its such a crazy little thriller. The first viewing I had was so-so. It felt a little cliched and what not but about an hour after seeing it I couldnt think of anything bad to really say about it. It leaves a dark impression on your mind. The world of snuff is very dark and odd. I found it to be plenty scary at many moments. The acting was great and the direction was stellar. The script felt like your average thriller but with the tight and original story. The cliches were noticable as the film began to close the Third Act however the finale was perfect, chilling, and very fitting for the entire mood of the film. For some reason, I think this could be good if re-made into English. I know that is a banasable thing to say but the only reason I mention that is because of Vanilla Sky. Alejandro's "Thesis" is one of the best entry level projects for any director. He just has a way of creating amazing original thrillers. I can't wait for his next project.
