Let me try this again:

I have to go with the ending of The Lord of the Rings. I found the action stunning and the part where Legalos stabs the orc in the head with an arrow and then shoots that same arrow at an orc right behind that one was sweet.

What about you guys?

P.S.:
If there's a movie that's not on there, you may post it.

One I forgot to put was the lightsaber fight between Luke and Vader in The Return of the Jedi.

Neither of them. Your picks aint that good. I'm going with my own 3:

1.Heat (1995, 10/10)-The street shootout.

2.John Carpenter's They Live (1988, 8/10)-Rowdy Roddy Piper Vs. Keith David...fucking legendary.

3.Lethal Weapon 4 (1998, 3/10)-Mel Gibson and Danny Glover Vs. Jet Li...the only scene that redeemed the movie just a little.

I agree with you completly. I was trying to think of movies with great action scenes, and when I'm trying to remember the countless number of great scenes, I get stuck. I still stand by my selection, however.

Although, I have to say that the shootout in Heat was kick-ass.

A Better Tomorrow II (8.5/10)- The ending battle sequence. It's hilarious that Ken (Chow Yun Fat) never walks far enough away after he throws a grenade or bomb in a certain place and always gets thrown off his feet from the impact.

Face/Off (9/10)- The boat sequence.

Léon (10/10)- The apartment raid at the end of the film. Fucking awesome shit.

I can't believe you didn't mention the beach invasion in "Saving Private Ryan."

Well, if you mean "battle" scene, then hands down the award goes to the opening of Saving Private Ryan. That's a battle.

But if you mean fight scene, the original Lethal Weapon fight between Mel Gibson and Gary Busey and his teeth is a pretty good one.

1. Saving Private Ryan - Both the opening sequence on the landing at Omaha Beach & The Final Battle

2. Braveheart - The Battle Of Bannockburn

3. Glory - The Battle for Fort Worth

4. Aliens - Ripley Vs The Queen

5. Starship Troopers - Landing on Klaandathu

6. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - The restuarant fight

7. Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring - The Mines Of Moria

Damn it! I had all these great battle scenes picked out, and then I forgot every one. That was one of mine. Also, I had planned the "firefight" in Boondock Saints. That was awasome.

Yeah the firefight from Boondock Saints was simply amazing. For war movies I really like the ending and opening sequencs of Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates.

For pure shootouts...

A Better Tomorrow 2 final shoot out.

For "military" battles...

Midway - pick one. Back when it was good, NOT CGi...
Pearl Harbor As shitte as the movie was, the attack sequences were pretty well done (although too much CGi, but I can understand why they did it... lack of Zeros)

Fighting battles (aka Fight Scenes)...

Police Story - Jackie vs The Shopping Mall :D All time classic.

The trailer for Two Towers!! Ok, not really, but Helms Deep is gonna kick all kinds of ass. I mean, the battle in AotC, at the end, was pretty sweet, but this will be 1000x better than even that.

I'm curious as to what you mean by "simply amazing"... I viewed that scene as extremely comical. Maybe that's what you mean as well, but it's just hard to tell because I wouldn't call it "amazing", I'd call it "hilarious"(and I mean that in the best of ways, not, "badly hilarious" or anything).

The greatest battle scenes have been mentioned already, and action scenes are too tricky to choose.

I liked two action scenes from LOTR: the scene with the Balrog, and the scene with Boromir, but neither of them were as good as the fighting scenes in Crouching Tiger. Of course that's because LOTR itself wasn't that great of a movie...

...Lawrence of Arabia puts me to sleep, every single time. No real point to that statement, but I figured I would mention it anyways. I am a fanboy, ya know? And, for those that still dont believe that TTT will have the greatest battle scene ever, go here, and download the 15MB version of the actual movie footage from the video-game - it is amazing. The sound is really fucked up though, and it makes everything sound weird, but its all good. Anyways, here is the link;

http://www.warofthering.net/downloads/thetwotowerstrailers.shtml

Dont, I repeat, dont download the 5MB version, as most of the HD stuff isnt included. All told, this video is a little longer than 5 minutes, I believe, and a good majority of it, is new stuff.

I've always quite liked the climactic battle in Spartacus, w/ the flaming logs. That's still stirring 40 years later.

That film also features one of the great one-on-one battles, Kirk Douglas and the late, great Woody Strode in the Spartacus-Draba gladiatorial contest. Love that net and trident setup Draba had.

I cant believe that no one said the first 20 minutes of Gladiator. That was so kick ass!!!!!!!! and what about the action secuences in The Matrix (specially the final fight between Neo and Agent Smith)?????.

I believe that in around 50 days we will have a new number 1. the battle scenes for THE TWO TOWERS. they are supposed to be amazing. i just can't wait for that !!!

Gladiator was excellent. That's not something we're used to seeing: the Romans fighting it out in the cold parts of Northern Europe, where they really did a lot of fighting. I love the catapults shooting the flame into the treetops. Great tactic and stunning visual.

Sorry, dude. Like I said, I forgot a lot of great movies that I now wish I had put on.

The last large-scale battle scene in Spartacus, and the D-Day battle in Saving Private Ryan would have to be my top favorite.

I'm prety sure the Helm's Deep battle in Two Towers will become my favorite.

I so agree with you!

That's why I didn't vote. The best battle scene for me, and for now, is the opening sequence of "Saving Private Ryan". And I say for now, because it could change with the battle of Helm's Deep in "The Two Towers". This epic battle is SO HUGE! (if you haven't read the book, I honestly encourage you to) Just look at the trailer...

BUT...

Maybe then again, it could change to the battles in "Return Of The King"... I haven't read that book yet, but from what I hear in the forums is that it will be MASSIVE. And when I say massive, I say MASSIVE!

What do you guys think, do you think that the battle scenes in "Return Of The King" will be greater than that of "The Two Towers"?

I honestly can't tell you. The trailer for The Two Towers makes it look as though it's going to be full of action. That's the way it is in the book, but I don't know about Return of the King. I've yet to read it. I'm still in the middle of TTT. I just hope that the action is kick-ass, and I think I'll be happy with the outcome.

SPOILERS, everyone.

Alright, just for example; TTT has Helms Deep - RotK has TWO battles that will be 10x as big. FotR had Gandalf vs. the Balrog; RotK has Gandalf vs. King Ringwraith on his Fallen Steed, and two others vs. him, as well. FotR had the Mines of Moria, and TTT has the Dead Marshes - RotK has the Paths of the Dead. Basically, RotK will be an event film, in that every scene in that movie will be either, very emotionally involving, or very, very epic, and exciting.

Hooray for the Street Shootout in Heat, it's one of my favorite sequences ever in film. I must watch that tonight when I get home possibly.

You're forgiven. EASILY. Anyway, I thought that you should add the scene in Taxi Driver not that I'd vote for it if you did but you have room as you don't have ten options listed.

I'd vote for LORD OF THE RINGS: FELLOWSHIP or Crouching Tiger before Taxi Driver. The Killer was good as well. The "fight" in Reservoir Dogs was too short to be a fight. One moment, they're all dead/nearly dead, and Mr. Pink runs away with the money. His sterling moment. Good, but not a fight scene.

My Picks for best battle (that I didn't noticed mentioned)

1. Black Hawk Down.....no other movie has came close to pure warfare. My heart races through it all the time and everytime I watch it. SPR was drama, BHD is action.

2. Blade 2.....the fight in the club surpassed the fight in the club from Blade one, and then that fight was surpassed with the fight at the end. Just too fucking cool.

3. Legend of Drunken Master.....the bamboo stick fight is great but it doesn't beat the whole last battle in the wearhouse against the main badguys.

4. Predator.....Arnold vs. Predator, enough said!

I can't believe nobody mentioned the battle scenes in Alexander Nevsky and The Birth of a Nation.

1 The final battle between Dutch and the Predator ("Predator")
2 Practically every sequence in "Face/Off"
3 The arena scenes in "Gladiator"
4 D-Day in "Saving Private Ryan"
5 The final punch/kick up between Imhotep and Rick in "The Mummy Returns"
6 The duel between Blade and Frost in "Blade"
7 The opening sequence in "Blade II"
8 Pretty much every scene in "Aliens" (WHUP-ASS)
9 The fight between Virgil and Coffey in "The Abyss"
10 The final scene between T-101 and Kyle Reese in "The Terminator"

D-DAY - Saving Private Ryan- overall greatest and most emotional Battle scene ever...

others i just thought of.....

HOSPITAL HOSTAGE RESCUE - Hard Boiled- For most gibs, most gun shots, longest action takes, longest scene, and most damge.... this one if for you...

END ALLEY SHOOTOUT - Desperado- Stylish to the max, perfect to the music and all around cool thug shootout...

BATTLE TO AKABA - Lawrence of Arabia - Largest scale with the most extra's.. beutiful scenary...

END SHOWDOWN - Shogan's Shadows- Sonny Chiba takes out over 1,000 sahmeri warriors in his prime, fun/goofey sound f/x bound to happen.

Out of your choices I voted for LOTR...Strider is such a bad ass
"Now, lets hunt some orc!" I actually cheered when he cut that orc-lord (or whatever his name was) head off.

But personally I liked the end battle of SPR with the bridge that was much better than D-Day...when you have the speakers on full you can hear the tanks coming and slowly they get louder and louder until it all kicks off!

The best one is from Saving Private Ryan. The OHAMA BEACH Scene, is the greatest movie battle scene ive ever seen in my life. Its fucking fantastic and very very real. The spielberg's scene show us the real structury of a chaotic war.

And sometimes I wonder why people take the word of pretentious "connoisseurs" who think that the last four star movie came out 40 years ago. Better us know-nothing "children" make up our own minds then get hammered with age-old trivia.

As for my pick, I'd say the first combat scene in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" theres no beating that film.
