sinse the 3 movies are going to make probably more than $1 billion. do you think that they will make some prequels or stories after the 3 movies?????

Maybe. In my opinion The Hobbit has the chance of being made a few years after LOTR. It is a great story and would make a nice film. As for The Sillmarion, no way. It is too vast and detailed to be made into a film. There is zero chance.

i read in a magazine that the original idea for peter jackson was to make THE HOBBIT. jackson went to one of the studios and they had a fit with the $70 million budget, so then jackson went to new line and gave him $300 million to make the 3 movies. so maybe THE HOBBIT will be made.
I don't know, The Hobbit is a charming tale, but it seems a little anti-climactic after The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy don't you think?
That said and done, perhaps after a short reprieve from all things Tolkien, it may be just what's required. Who knows. I love good fantasy tales, so I'd really enjoy a filmic translation of a great fantasy book.
I very much doubt that Peter Jackson will direct it though, assuming it would be made. I think he has other projects in mind such as King Kong. A remake he's had in the pipeline for a long time (before LOTR). I think after many many years making three films of the same genre, he'd want to move on.

...not.
Jedi, I assume you read the Rules and Regulations, correct? Well, if not, I highly suggest you do so now - joking or not, it wasnt appropriate to call us "geek fucks".

Sir Ian Mckellen was talking recently about the chances of THE HOBBIT, Jackson apparently has the rights or at least the right for the rights. He seems interested, stating he would be keen to revisit but is questioning both his and Ian Holm age in consideration for it to go ahead with them in the roles.
He interestingly talked about it becoming a weekly TV Series (or perhaps more of a mini series) where each episode is a chapter from the book.

That's a great idea! I think a tv-series would be awesome! But I wouldn't mind if they make a movie... :p

I think a HOBBIT movie could be a good idea. Especially if Pete Jackson is directing it...

ya, with the success of FOTR and the next 2 movies, who knows, The Hobbitt could pop up in around 2 years. LOL :D

Absolutley ak. I mean The hobbit is more or less a prolouge though it is a very entertaining tale, the scale of everyting would be taken down.
I also agree with what you said with it as a future smaller project for a diferent director, that could work out.

I pray to all that is sacred that this will never come to pass!!!!
You know they would screw it up. A TV show could never do Tolkein justice.
I think I would rather have boiling mucus poured into an open pussing wound and licked clean by a rabid St. Bernard than see LOTR made into a TV show.

nice and colorful example Paterfamilias.
I hope that they don't make it into a TV show. it would cost too much money on a weekly basis (wiht CGI and such). if they wanted to make it into a TV show, they might as well make another movie.

i really hope that they choose not to do that. i think that it would completely ruin everything. for once, just let a trilogy stay as it is. don't fuck it up like so many before. please!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure that theres been a misinterpretation, I think McKellen was suggesting a mini series for the book, more likely in the style of The Band of Brothers than a long running, season based show like CSI (the example given).
In that case, I think that it could be excellent, in particular if you consider the comments above that making the Hobbit into a film would appear anti climactic after the release of the trilogy, the mini series format would suit it perfectly... obviously only if talent was involved.

Actually, I think The Hobbit would be much better suited for theatrical release, than as a mini-series. As for the scale of the project; yes, it would be toned down, but that doesnt mean it would be bad. Think about it; the Battle of Five Armies, the attack on Lake Town, the fight between the Orcs, and the Company in the caves under the Misty Mountain, Gollum and the riddle game, the three trolls planning how they should cook the dwarves, the spiders in Mirkwood, Smaug - that would make an awesome movie. It would be great. Something like The Tale of Beren and Luthien, or Feanors Tale, or even Turin - those would make great mini-series.

The Hobbit has enough Drama, Comedy, and Action in its pages to make a kick-ass film. I do not like the idea of it being made into a T.V. mini-series, though The Silmarllion and its parts would make awesome T.V. mini-series.

One thing is for sure, PJ does not have the rights. This is from a New Zealand webpage, Stuff.
It reads-----------
British newspaper The Guardian reported last week that The Lord Of The Rings star Sir Ian McKellen was keen to star in a screen version of The Hobbit. Sir Ian said he understood Jackson has secured the rights to The Lord of The Rings prequel.
However, spokeswoman for Rings production company Three Foot Six, Melissa Booth, said today Jackson had not secured the rights to film The Hobbit.
The whole article is---------
Jackson puts King Kong on backburner
MONDAY , 04 NOVEMBER 2002
Kiwi film-maker Peter Jackson will not rule out a remake of King Kong, but is committed to two small films after The Lord Of The Rings is completed, he has told an American magazine.
Jackson spent six months developing designs and a script for King Kong with his partner Fran Walsh before backer Universal Pictures pulled out in 1997.
But in an interview in horror and fantasy magazine Fangoria, Jackson said Universal had changed its mind and was interested.
"If we were to do (King) Kong - and we haven't had anything more than an initial expression of interest from the studio - we'd be looking at something like 2006. At this point in time, it's sort of out there as a possibility because (the original is) still my favourite film, and to go back into it would be fun," he said.
Jackson said he and Walsh were committed to doing "one or maybe even two smaller films" before 2006. He was also considering squeezing in a low-budget zombie movie.
"It would be fun to shoot something over a long period of time. Whatever we might do after (The) Lord Of The Rings, I'm seriously thinking of filming on the weekends. We might be doing another movie, but on days off we would go out with a small crew and shoot some scenes and put it together over a long period of time."
