As you can see from my post I think the upcoming movie that Drew Barrymore is doing called Surrender Dorthy has lal the potentional to be a disaster. Dont get me wrong it could be great but what I want to know is why dont they adapt one of the best Oz books out there that is not The Wizard of Oz.

The book is called Wicked:The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch off the West by Gregory Maguire.

As you can tell by the title it is a mock biography og the Wicked Witch of the West which by the way her name is Elphaba. It follows four time persiods: her childhood with her psychotic parents, her college days with her roomate Glenda the Good Witch, her politcial activism days, and he eventual run in with Dorthy. The way the author turns Oz on its hea d is fascinating. The Wizard is aking to Hitler, the witch is misunderstood and Glenda is a social climbing bitch.

It also has some great idea on the nature of good and eveil. This is fantastic book read it and somebodu should adapt it.

I say they should just leave THE WIZARD OF OZ alone.

And I don't mean a fashion show from Australia. Lyman Frank Baum wrote literally dozens of Oz books, most having nothing to do with Dorothy. They are all awful, but it seems to me that if they want to make a new Oz movie, and the first one was such a hit in spite of its source material, they might turn back to Baum. Maybe the continual extension of copyright which now makes your great-great grandchildren eligible for royalties has something to do with it.
