I was gonna do a poll on this, but what's the point. Everyone has their own opinion. Here's my top 10:
***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
1. Say Anything - John Cusack holds his beatbox aloft while it blares out Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" through Ione Skye's open window. If they had beatbox's in the 17th century, I'm sure Romeo would've proposed to Juliet this way. A scene to melt the hardest heart.
2. Back To The Future - Michael J Fox invents rock & roll at his parent's high school dance. The stuff of legend is that it's done on Chuck Berry's cousin's guitar. Classic!
3. An Officer & A Gentleman - Richard Gere enters Debra Winger's factory to the intro of "Up Where We Belong". He lifts her up and carries her out as Jennifer Warnes warbles over the credit roll. Not a dry eye in the house indeed.
4. The Breakfast Club - As the kids finally leave their Saturday detention to the sound of Simple Mind's "Don't You Forget About Me". They make their separate ways not knowing whether or not they'll know each other on Monday. Judd Nelson walks across the school field and punches the air.
5. Reservoir Dogs - Michael Madsen dances around to "Stuck In The Middle With You" before producing a razorblade and giving a poor tied up copper a close shave.
6. The Shawshank Redemption - Andy listens to Mozart like a free man, then turns on the prison tannoy and plays it at full volume to all the inmates. "...and every man in Shawshank felt free"
7. Philadelphia - Quite possibly my favourite credit sequence, an aerial shot of Philadelphia followed by a montage of all the city has to offer. Bruce Springsteen is the boss!
8. Jerry Maguire - Jerry & Dorothy's date. Enter the ever-so-cute Jonathan Lipnicki, who asks Jerry for a hug. Swell up "Secret Garden", another song by the boss! Again, a million hearts melt.
9. Almost Famous - Elton John's Tiny Dancer tinkles on the stereo and one by one everyone starts singing along.
10. Footloose - "Come on this is a party let's dance!" - Crack on Footloose by Kenny Loggins and shuffle away. Brilliant!!

1.Raging Bull - the best opening credits scene ever, with Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana"(I think) playing while DeNiro dances in slow motion in the ring
2.Almost Famous - Tiny Dancer
3.Apocalypse Now - This is the end...
4.Say Anything... - In Your Eyes
5.Magnolia - Wise Up

Paint It Black blasting during the end credits of Full Metal Jacket. But if that doesn't count I'll say Tiny Dancer during Almost Famous

I agree with the Full metal jacket thing, but here are some more of my favourites.
The good the bad and the ugly - the final shootout between the 3 with ennio morricone's excellent score
Reservoir Dogs - its already been said, but the torture bit
Face/ Off - over the rainbow bit
Scarface - when push it to the limit plays through the bit where it shows Tony Montana banking all that money.

Great Topic, and great choices!
To add:
Tom Cruise dancin' in his undies in his parents' living room in RISKY BUSINESS

PATRICK SWAZE & JENNIFER GREY lip-syncing to the song in the dance studio (What was the song and who sung it?)

The song in Adventures In Babysitting was "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals.
Personally, my favourite musical "bit" in AIB was the blues club: "I got the baby-sitting blues"
The song in Dirty Dancing was "Love Is Strange" by Mickey & Sylvia
Both great choices Raena, I never listed Dirty Dancing in my list cos I feel it borders more on the musical genre. Great choices nevertheless

I thought the musical score's of two sports movie's, Hoosiers and The Natural, really added nicely to the respective films.

From American Psycho when Patrick Bateman plays Hip To Be Square by Huey Lewis and The News for Paul Allen while discussing the career of the band. At the same time of course preparing to kill Allen. Absolutely my favourite.
Also the dream sequence in the Big Lebowski with Kenny Rogers "I Just Dropped In". That scene is one of the best I have ever seen.
Again to the Coen's in O Brother Where Art Thou? when the Soggy Bottom Boys sing "Man Of Constant Sorrow" in the recording studio.
And those that have been mentioned, Wise Up in Magnolia and Stuck In The Middle With You in Reservoir Dogs.

*Possible Spoiler*
Charlie's Angels
When Sam Rockwell (Eric Knox) reveals himself as a bad guy to Drew Barrymore (Dylan) and "Got to Give it Up" by Marvin Gaye is playing in the background. Sam Rockwell then proceeds to show us his dancing prowess.
I also thought that "Smack My Bitch Up" by Prodigy was great during the fight scene in the alley.
Beetlejuice
The "Day-O" dinner "possesion" scene.
Top Gun
"You've Lost That Loving Feeling" in the bar.
Almost Famous
"Tiny Dancer" sing-along in the bus.
American Werewolf in London
"Moondance" by Van Morrison in the shower ."Blue Moon" and "Bad Moon Rising" throughout the movie.
There's Something About Mary
"Build Me Up Buttercup" sing-along during ending credits.
Wayne's World
"Bohemian Rhapsody" lip-sync in the car.

1. Legend (of course i had to include this and i don't know if it counts)---when Lilly (Mia Sara) endulges in her dark side, dancing away w/the black-gowned figure in Darkness' layer. - the music score set by tangerine dream is wonderful.
2. Great Expectations--the end song and the song that tori amos sings while Finn (Ethan Hawk) moves on with his life . that whole soundtrack is great and moves the movie
3. Edward Scissorhands- when Wynona Ryder is dancing in the snow. how lovely. near the end of the movie.
...i'm beginning to think that these don't count....lol.....but here are some that would
4. The Fifth Element- The Operatic Techno scene
5. The Sweetest Thing- this movie was terrible. but it was so worth it for "Too Big to Fit in Here" lol.
6. Bettlejuice- The "Day-O" scene of course
7. American Beauty- basically almost every scene in the movie that contains the musical score that was moving and made you appreciate life, but if you want to get particular and point out a "singing" moment when Lester Burhnam (Kevin Spacey) is high in the car.
8. Big- the dance on the keyboard
Once again...more that don't count
9. Cruel Intentions-"colorblind" by counting crows. enough said.
10. The Lost Boys--the "thou shall not" song. hehe. see a similarity b/w this one and number 9. lol.
blitzkrieg
11-30-2002, 12:56 AM
Flight of the Valkyries in Apocalypse Now. Enough said, its one the greatest cinematic acheivements, even though the movie is weird beyond all belief and makes no sense.
Annie Hall

Tiny Dancer in Almost Famous
In Your Eyes in Say Anything...
Free Falling in Jerry Maguire
The piano dance in Big
Wise Up in Magnolia
Twist and Shout in Ferris Bueller
and
Head over Heels and Mad World in Donnie Darko (not singing...but...still very cool)
