ever.No matter how many years have past it
still scares the hell out of me.I am Greek
and got terrified listening to Linda talking
my mother tounge.....let me know what do you think.

Aramir, It is always a matter of personal opinion, but I for one am terrified to this day. To me it is the scariest movie of all time. On the other hand, someone on this site posted that they saw this movie when they were a kid and laughed all the way through it. P.s. Good user name by the way.

quite simple ...but the movie was playing

You know what really scares me? The fact the people consider "The Exorcist" an old movie. I was four years old when it was first released! Jeez.

If my memory serves me correctly, it was released in 1974. That means I was 4 or 5 depending on the month it was released. Holy fuck! Way to make me feel old people!

William Peter Blatey was a genius for even writing The Exorcist, as to this day, whether it be old or not, it still packs one hell of a punch. /ubb/biggrin.gif All I can say is that if I am brave enough to rent the movie . . . it will go back that night as I cannot sleep with the film in the same house. /ubb/redface.gif I guess that it really is a scary film, especially if you were lucky enough to see the special edition. I sat in the theater and felt the same way that I did the first time that I saw the film!!!

Ok people ,some of you are about 30.....that is not old ,I am 27 of crying out loud.....but how would you characterize a
movie that has the same age? Old was the first word that came to my mind ....that's
all.Thanx for having the same opinions as me.

It is one of the greatest horror movies ( not quite my favourite but in my top 5 list )
I saw it for the first time when i was 8 and my parents were out of town
i was home with my sister ( she was 12 at the time ) and we watched it around 2 am
it was fun but not exactty scary....

Also on my top 5 list, and THE scariest horror movie I've seen. I was shaking the whole day when I saw it, and had nightmare, upon nightmare. Amazing horror flick! A+

agreed Aramir,The Exorcist ranks in my top 10 horror movies of all time and still holds a power to this day. Here's a little interesting story for you that I thought I would add to the post here. When I picked up the Exorcist on DVD,this was about a month ago, watched it late that night around Midnight,3 hours later, heard sirens, looked out the window and seen an ambulance and firetruck parked next door and thought what the hell is going on,turns out,my next door neighboor died of a stroke.

Perhaps not THE best horror movie ever, but a damned good one.

The Exorcist is not only one of the best horror movies ever made, it is one of the best movies of any genre ever made.

I don`t know about *THE* best horror movie ever, but it`s definetly right up there. I can`t ever pick a single favorite movie, same thing with bands, I`ve always kinda had 'multiple favorites'.

I am glad that people do think the same....
I know it is a big thing to try and name a horror movie as the best one but this flick is pretty close to that ,for me .....cheers all

I'm one of those people that think it's overrated. I saw it when I was young and didn't find it to be the least bit scary. I just watched it again a few months ago and not only did I find it not scary or even creepy I thought it was downright dumb. I found the direction to be very shoddy. It's really beyond me as to why people like this movie.

the exorcist
By no means is it THE best horror, perhaps well known, but not the best. A lot of underperfroming films are scarier, like THE ENTITY.
I did not find it scary, but it raised good issues on faith, with Merrick and Karras. The whole concept is brilliant, but too many people focus on the effects.

The exorcist is one of those movies that spurned a great sequel. The excorcist 3 is one of my favorite movies of all time ranking just below the original. Now I wouldn't call the excorcist the scariest movie of all time but it still creeps me out more than most movies. Could you imagine if they tried to release that movie today? The censors would cut it to shreds and freddy prinze Jr. would be the priest. Excuse my typos but I quit smoking yesterday and I can't think straight. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

Aramir different people get scared by different things. I think the excorcist is really creepy but it doesn't invoke the fear other movies do to me. I for one am terrified of being buried alive so oddly enough The Fall of the house of Usher scares me much more than the excorcist. The Giallo flicks are another example of movies that push the right buttons to freak me out. Last time I watched Deep Red a friend had to walk me to my car when I left late at night. I respect the exorcist and its one of my favorite horror movies but to my personal tastes its not the "Scariest" movie of all time.

I don't have to think for awhile because it's not scary. I actually laughed at several parts in this movie. I love disturbing, terrifying movies and this movie is neither. So, if your asking me to name movies that are scarier than this, my answer is this: just about any decent horror movie. (Hell, Gremlins creeped me out more when I was a kid than this movie did)
NOW YOU GET IT?
