View Full Version : NEXT WEEKEND BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS (8 Mile & Femme Fatale)
EST. THEATER COUNTS
8 MILE - 2,500
FEMME FATALE - 1,000 (Starts Wednesday)
FAR FROM HEAVEN - 5
8 MILE - I see this one opening very well with at least 30 Million. If JACKASS can make 22.8 Million its opening weekend then a movie with one of todays biggest selling and most controversial rappers can certainly manage a smokin' debut. CROSSROADS with Britney Spears managed to open with around 15 Million so 8 MILE should at least be able to double that. But not only will it appeal to fans of Eminem it will also appeal to a lot of movie fans, the advanced buzz has been excellent.
FEMME FATALE - This looks like a sexy thriller but I still don't see it doing very well. It was a very good idea to open this on a Wednesday so it could get a head start. Unfortunately, I see an opening weekend of around 2.9 Million.

"8 Mile" - 27 million
"Feme Fatale" - 5 million
Like you said Mike "Femme Fatale" won't do well. Seems to be getting lots of negative reviews and not opening in that many theatres, I don't see it making any more than 5.
I'm not sure but...
8 mile- 33mi
FF- 4.3mi
later in the week i'll put my final predictions

I agree Mike, 8 Mile should gross at least $30 million. Almost everyone I know is dying to see it. I predict a very rosy debut of about $35 million, with average depreciations in the weeks after.
Femme Fatale, I doubt, will seduce many people. I can see maybe a $ 3.5 million dollar weekend gross and $4 million in 5 days.
Far From Heaven should see phenomenal returns from its 5 screens. Reviews are fantastic and the flick should probably do a little better than Frida did last weekend in its smashing debut ($200 000 on only 5 screens). I predict about $250,000 from its 5 screens, giving it a stellar per screen average.

8 Mile will do great. First, Eminem is a huge star already and will bring a large legion of diehard fans. Second, the trailers look hip and offer a bit of Drama, Action, and Comedy, even. I predict it doing very well with 27 million in its opening weekend. It should do well in the weeks to come also because Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and 007 Die Another Day are aiming at different demographics. It could easily break the 100 million barrier.
Femme Fatale will be a big bomb. The star power is bad. Antonio Banderas' last film was Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever(Frida is not really a Banderas film, per se). The trailers are weak, in my opinion. Black & White was a sex-driven film opening on a small amount of theatres on a Wednesday and how many of you remember that one? Exactly. Femme should die quicky and open with only 4 million over the 5 day period.
I see The Santa Clause 2 dropping only about 25% this weekend due to good word of mouth and kids seeing it again. Actually I believe it will do well against Harry Potter 2 next weekend like Monsters Inc. did last year. They can co-exsist, I believe. As for I Spy, that will drop quick enough. I see it dropping 45% this weekend, for sure.
I cannot wait 'till next weekends box office. I wonder how huge CoS will be. I am thinking 110 million, but that is next weekend.
Here's my EARLY PREDICTIONS:
1. 8 MILE - 35 MILLION
2. THE SANTA CLAUSE 2 - 20.6 MILLION (It should have really good legs and only drop around 29%)
3. THE RING - 15 MILLION (This should continue to hold up extremely well, almost like The Sixth Sense did. It was very smart to have an ending that would leave audiences coming back for more, including me.)
4. I SPY - 9.7 MILLION (It should drop around 30%, possibly more.)
5. JACKASS: THE MOVIE - 5.2 MILLION (With 8 MILE opening and most of its built in audience already having seen it I'm pretty certain a big drop of at least 60% will result.)
6. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING - 4.7 MILLION (Another drop of around 15% seems pretty likely, which will bring it even closer to 200 Million.)
7. SWEET HOME ALABAMA - 3.1 MILLION (It should drop around 32% again.)
8. GHOST SHIP - 3 Million (It should drop at least 55%)
9. FEMME FATALE - 2.9 MILLION
10. PUNCH DRUNK LOVE - 2.7 MILLION (I don't see it adding many more theaters and a drop of around 35% seems pretty likely.)
11. BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE - 1.6 MILLION

I'm not complaining, but isn't speculating about next weekend before this weekend is over a tad premature?

Black & White was a sex-driven movie? Are you referring to the James Toback film? Like Woody Allen, his films appeal to a small demographic, unlike De Palma's presumably nation-wide adult audience.
Not that I expect Femme Fatale to be successful. It's not getting respectable early reviews; De Palma hasn't made a good movie since Raising Cain.

Wow dude! They are pretty much my predictions to! (so I ain't gonna post mine ;))
However I think that I Spy! will have a larger drop of about 45% and a total of $7.5 million for next weekend.

That's cool, I'm glad I have someone that agrees with my predictions. As for I SPY, I'm really not too sure, I see it dropping at least 30% next weekend but I see the drops being bigger after that. I think it will gross between 50-60 Million at the Box Office, if it were any other time of year I might say a little less but for some reason I think it might do better during this season. But I don't see it making more than 60 Million at the end of its Box Office run.

If The Ring manages another $15+ MM weekend, it would be it's fourth in a row above $15MM. Word of mouth is helping this movie out. The Sixth Sense had it's first 5 weekends above $20MM with it's word of mouth so The Ring is in good company.

Yes. I know some people like to defend the dreadful film Black & White by James Toback and starring Robert Downey Jr, Elijah Wood, Brooke Shields, Ben Stiller, etc as a film trying to study the relations between two different ethnic groups. That would have made an interesting film, but it obviously forgot its plot and it seemed Toback was just throwing in whatever he could to build up a little hype that the film might be hip, sexy, or controversial. He did not make a film to investigate a social phenomenon, he made B&W to try and make a crap-ass film sound cool to young moviegoers. Femme Fatale is trying to do the same thing. They might as well put out a trailer exclaiming "COME AND SEE OUR MOVIE. IT RACY AND HIP FUN. IT IS LIKE SO COOL DUDES. COME AND SEE IT!". That is how blatant there marketing to young and dumb party people is.
Actually, the easier answer is: did you notice how in Black and White, there was sex and sex talk every few seconds for no apparent reason?

8Mile will open with $40-50 million. This will be very big because its got Eminem in it, it looks really good and its getting very good reviews. I think It will pass the $200 mark before it finishes its theatre run.
Femme Fatle will have an opening weekend of about $4-7 million and will have a little bit extra because it opened on wednesday.

According to Boxofficeguru.com and Boxofficemojo.com, 8 MILE had an incredible opening day total of $20 million yesterday, set to make $54 - $59 million over the weekend.
I should have stuck with my original prediction for I SPY instead of changing it, my original prediction would have been closer anyway. I originally predicted 9.7 Million this weekend for I SPY but then I changed it to 7.8 Million, and it looks to make around 9.5 Million...

I agree. Does anyone know when Far From Heaven will expand? I really want to see it, the reviews have been excellent and I really like Julianne Moore, I hope it comes to my area sometime soon...

I really like Julianne Moore
I really like her too, she's beautiful and talented, plus in all of the interviews I've seen her in she seems like a really nice and down to earth person. I just saw her on David Letterman the other night and she was great, very charming...

Rebecca Romijn-Stamos is much more beautiful and also seems like a nice individual from interviews on shows like Conan O'Brien. She's 100 times more beautiful than Moore, who I think is ugly.

I also think Rebecca Romijn-Stamos seems really nice, which is surprising because when you look at someone like her you think she'd be self-absorbed but I saw her on Conan the other night and she seemed really nice, funny, and very down to earth, not to mention she's also very sexy :)... But I don't think Moore is ugly at all and her great personality just makes her all the "moore";) beautiful...

According to Box Office Guru it's supposed to go into around 250 theaters on November 22nd... And I agree with you, I'm sure it will go into quite a few more over Thanksgiving weekend...
