O.K. I'm a huge Argento fan and I'm looking to explore other italian horror. Problem is the video stores around me don't carry diddly squat as far as foreign horror goes. So I'm thinking of buying some fulci or bava movies can i get some imput on what their greatest hits are.... thanks http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif I know the classics but I kind of want to know which ones are worth buying. Thanks for the help!

Get Zombie. It's the only movie of Fulci's that I have seen but it is great. The atmosphere and score are great, as well as the gore.

Give Fulci's The Gates of Hell a shot. I'm still making my way through Italian horror fare, so I haven't seen any of Bava's films yet.

IMHO his best works are:
The Beyond
House by the Cemetary
Here are a couple of other Fulci threads:

Bava? Try MGM Midnite's "Planet of the Vampires." It's only $10 and it has a beautiful transfer and the movie is real eye candy. Great movie! I own Image's "Black Sunday" and it looks very good and is a great black and white satanic cult movie.

For Fulci definitely get Zombie. You can find it at Best Buy for either 12.99 or 14.99. It was just rereleased a couple months back by Anchor Bay. It's one of those MUST HAVE type things. Also, City of the Living Dead is a winner. However, keep in mind that Fulci is a lot different than Argento (who I prefer). Seemingly all Fulci movies take 30 minutes to kick in and he's not nearly as fancy with the camera. But it's still violent and a bloody good time.

heres my list to you of "must get fulci movies"
gates of hell(aka city of the living dead)
the beyond
house by the cemetary
new york ripper
zombie
no particular order, just get some cash together and go fulci shopping
Zombie [Flesh Eaters] is a really fun movie. It's no great artistic achievement but the gore is absolutely brilliant and the Zombie vs shark sequence is one of my favourites in horror.
City of the Living Dead [Gates of Hell] is also good. It also has more story than the other Fulci's I have seen.
House By The Cemetery has some really promising touches but the story gets confused and contradicts itself on sveeral points. The gore is again stunning and the final shot is really haunting.

The Beyond, Zombie and The Gates Of Hell are his most entertaining movies. Get them!

For Mario Bava :
A Bay Of Blood ( if you like Friday The 13th, you'll like this one, too )
Hatchet For A Honeymoon
Black Sunday ( which I don't find, unfortunately but I was told that this is one of the best Bava's )
Schock ( very very slow but it has a lot of atmosphere, very weak bodycount, too )
Lamberto Bava, only one film because the others are pure crap : A Blade In The Dark
Fulci :
The House By The Cementery ( very creepy and nasty )
Zombie is must - see flick !! the splinter in the eye scene is gruesome and sadistic )
The Beyond ( the masterpiece of Fulci )
La Paura ( don't know the english title )
For Soavi :
Stage Fright is a terrific giallo/slasher ( this is actually a mix )
The Sect

Soavi
Dellamorte Dellamore(Cemetery Man US title)
The Church
Fulci
Zombie
Beyond
City of the walking dead(Gates of hell)
House by cemetery
Zombie 3(co directed with Bruno Mattei)
his other works are uninspiring in my opinion, this is the period in his career when he was on the top of his game.also, for a kind of retrospective of his horror film exploits, check out Cat in the Brain,he's actually the star of that one.
Argento
Deep Red
Inferno
Suspiria
Phenomena
Opera
Demons 1/2(produced did not direct,Lamberto Bava, son of Mario Bava did)
Bird on a crystal plummage
Dario Argento's world of horror(Soavi's first directorial effort)

What exactly is "World Of Horror"? I saw it at the video store, I thought it was probably just a bunch of clips from Argento`s films.
My favorite Fulicis:
Zombi
House By the Cemetary
Gates Of Hell
P.S. - I just recently saw Soavi`s "The Church". Pretty damn cool, I must say!

And for the record, The Time sucked.
