These are 15 of my favorite 80's bands. True, some were formed before '80, and some survived the decade and still thrive...but I think we'd all agree that their "heydays" were during said decade. They are musically emblematic of that era for me.
I tried to keep them as "unobscure" as possible...
Gimme your top 3 from these fabulous combos (alphabetically listed):
I ~EDITED~ to also ask for your favorite song from each of the three you select. ONE per customer (song wise), please...mine are listed.
Bauhaus- "Swing The Heartache"
Black Flag- "Rise Above"
Circle Jerks- "Live Fast, Die Young"
The Cult- "She Sells Sanctuary"
The Cure- "Killing an Arab"
Depeche Mode- "Little Fifteen"
Echo and the Bunnymen- "The Killing Moon"
Husker Du- "Deadly Skies"
Jesus and Mary Chain- "The Hardest Walk"
Mighty Lemon Drops- "Out of My Hands"
PiL- "Rise"
Psychedelic Furs- "Sister Europe"
The Replacements- "Here Comes a Regular"
Siouxsie and the Banshees- "Cities In Dust"
The Smiths- "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now"
Try to refrain from listing "others"...I'm interested in the spin on these 15 selections...

Whoa, you're taking me back to my Robert Smith hairdo days. What would underground dance clubs have been without these?
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
Depeche Mode - Strangelove
The Cure - Why Can't I Be You

1. The Jesus & Mary Chain - Upside Down
2. The Cure - Disintigration
3. The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?
The 80's were a musical wasteland as far as i'm concerned. There was so much shit clogging up the radio that the above three bands (especially The Jesus & Mary Chain) and several others were an absolute godsend.

The Smiths - Well I Wonder (you'll slit your wrists to that one if you're down enough)
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Peek-a-boo
Depeche Mode - Halo
The Cure - Pictures of You
Dammit! You can't expect me to pick just THREE!

The Cure - Hmmm...Either "A Forest" or "The Caterpiller".
Echo & The Bunnymen - Probably "The Killing Moon" also...but I'll go with "Seven Seas" for the memories.
The Smiths - "Girlfriend in a Coma".
I'd take "The Smiths" out of the lot of 'em...Just personal taste though...Great bloody picks BCV!

Aww come on! Where's DIO! and QUIET RIOT! Early PANTERA in their Glam days was also awesome! JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN were classics. And what about THE SCORPIONS. Early SEPULTURA and early SIX FEET UNDER were also amazing bands. Let's not forget VENOM and SLAYER. I'm gonna finish this off with YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and WHITE ZOMBIE.
