The Vines are just plain out rock band wannabes. Their songs are terrible (I'm Gonna Get Free for example). At the MTV Video Music Awards, they smashed their guitars. Yeah, very original(yawn). Three words to The Vines: Get A Life.

I disagree. I'll admit that in the UK the music press have slightly exagerated the bands worth by crowning them the best thing since Kurt Cobain first screamed into a mike. Their debut album is a cracker though. While not perfect, it is a damn fine pop/rock album. As for the band annoying you by smashing their guitars. Yeah...this might be slightly passe but it still beats the hell out of watching Justin Timberlake doing his sub-Michael Jackson impression. Rock band wannabes? What kind of criticism is that? They are a band...they play rock music...therefore they ARE a rock band. End of story. Whether they are a good or bad rock band is just a matter of opinion.

I disagree also, to a certain degree.
The band isn't all that flash, at this point, we have to remember they've been thrown into a whole fucking world of hype... I'm sure it can't help as far as development goes. The album is a bit dodgy, a song here and there is bordering on the shit side of things. But Highly Evolved the song is inspired, and there is promise here and there.
But Craig Nicholls is a revolution waiting to happen, maybe not as deserving and driven as The International Noise Conspiracy, but certainly not as obvious -- "we're here to tell you about the revolution man, you can't stop it" they called out at a concert I attended recently. His vocals hold the band together, and are their only true strength. His stage presence also helps.

I disagree completely. The Vines are pretty decent, if somewhat over-hyped. I like the Highly Evolved in the same way I like (physically, not metaphorically) smashing pumpkins - it's short, it's loud and I can clean my apartment to it. I think the phase of music we're going through - though nothing in comparison to the early-nineties - is great after the domination of bland and bloodless pop music. And what are the alternatives? I haven't listened to the charts for two/three years now...but I know i'll be able to soon.
So, yeah. They're not the best band around at the moment (hello, The Strokes, Radiohead, Supergrass) but they'll do for now...

I disagree. They may not be the best rock band, but they're pretty decent
i enjoy the vines. They have the energy of Nirvana and the vocal composition of The Beatles (listen to Homesick).

It's amazing he has all that energy considering he smokes heaps of pot... :o You would think he would mellow out a little..

these guys arent that bad, but BOY do they suck live. I've seen many live performances of theirs, and the guitarist ALWAYS fucks up and always sounds like he's losing his voice when they play live.

I dunno...I saw one of their videos on MTV, and I wasn't impressed. They were just trying TOO hard to be punk. Punk is something you don't have to try to be, you just are.

THE VINES
The one or two songs I heard from them were pretty good, I thought.

Well I really enjoy the The Vines. Sure they might yell into the mic, but that's there form of sinning. Some folk get, some don't. Although I enjoy The White Strips,The Hives more. Now those guys(and gal) can put on a show for yeah!
