i'll keep this short. Steven Stegal turns a movie into a piece of crap. I dont want to see this ever. His movies suck, not even mindless fun. just bad.
truly, I try not to hate. I try very hard not to. But God almighty I hope this film flops so that Ja Rule's attempts at being some sort of midget action hero are derailed. Stick to finding the occassional R&B diva man.... please...
OH MY GOD does this movie look like pure shit!!! I went to the movies with a friend last night to see THE RING and we were laughing our asses off at the luaghable trailer. Steven Segal sucks, according to people that have met him he's a real asshole and he seems like one so I have no problem believing it. I had fun making fun of the horrible trailer but I will never go near the actual movie, my life doesn't deserve to have time shaved off of it to watch this shit...

I think this looks decent. Not great but a decent time waster. There's only been 2 or 3 Seagal movies that I did not enjoy so I'll probably give this one a chance. Hopefully it will be better than Exit Wounds...

In Exit Wounds it was DMX and here its the way annoying Ja Rule.
DMX in my opinion did ok in Exit Wounds but fucking Ja Rule! I DESPISE the man's music and know I will loathe him even more as an actor.
I loved Seagal's early films: Above the Law, Hard to Kill, Marked for Death and Out for Justice but I'm gonna skip this one.
NOTE: Don Michael Paul who wrote and directed Half Past dead was also the screenwriter of the fun "Mickey Rourke" flick Harley Davidson and the Malboro's Man.
NOTE2: Is it me or should Seagal lay off the Burger King? He looks so out of shape in the Half Past dead trailer.

They should start campaigning for the Razzies, since that's all they're gonna get. With his squinty eyes and hard-to-hear voice, this is sure to be a winner  But look on the bright side, at least if you watch it, since there's probably gonna be no one in the theater, you can watch it, MST3000-style

I have already had the chance to see the film and it was about what I expected it to be beforehand. My review is below:
Steven Seagal isn’t known for starring in films with deep context or anything resembling a film that could be considered Oscar caliber. Nope, instead Mr. Steven Seagal is known across the world for being a well-built white guy with limited acting range that knows karate and uses it to defend the world from the latest nemesis in film after film of his. Of late, he has been known to team up with the latest popular rap artist to solidify the box office draw of the films he stars in. 2000’s Exit Wounds was the last such film as Seagal teamed up with DMX in that violent nonstop action extravaganza. Now, two years later, he once again teams up with a rap artist in Half Past Dead, written and directed by Don Michael Paul, a veteran television series director. By the way, Seagal stars along with the rappers Karupt, and Ja Rule along with actor Morris Chestnut (The Brothers). The film
The plot of the film involves a hidden stash of money in a high-tech prison and the men who desperately want to find it. From this very thin plot, director Don Michael Paul decides not to worry too much about the various specifics of the plot and therefore countless plot holes are present that never are resolved during the course of the film. Instead, he attempts to film well-choreographed action scenes and hopefully appease fans of longtime action star Steven Seagal. Conversely, Paul also gives it a valiant effort to incorporate the slang and attitudes that fans of rap music expect from a film starring a popular rap-recording artist. In meshing these different styles the film becomes wholly unsuccessful because the fight scenes are filled with quick cuts ad-nausea and the slang might fit with the prison setting but becomes annoying after it’s all one hears throughout the entire film. The film’s plot is also too familiar to be that exciting simply because chances are, you have seen the same story many times before. Really, do we really need yet another testosterone filled prison film?
What the film does avoid is being offensively over the top like Exit Wounds was and therefore escapes the MPAA ratings board with a somewhat surprising PG-13 rating. The film doesn’t appear to be watered down to this rating, instead it seems that the film was shot with the rating in mind from the very beginning. The copious amount of swearing that was in Exit Wounds is also absent in Half Past Dead.
Overall, while Half Past Dead isn’t as violent and otherwise offensive as 2000’s Exit Wounds, it still suffers from being derivative and mindless action entertainment at best.
75 out of 100 or 7.5 out of 10.

I saw a T.V. spot druing The Simpsons today on FOX and it looks dreadful. Seagal is causing a big fight in a prison and when a guard grabs his arm to stop him from fighting he says, "Sorry I am not into guys", and punches him away. Was that supposed to be funny? Ja Rule looks like he is gonna spit one liners, that are sad and unfunny, and do fakey wire-fu. This film will be HORRIBLE. Mark my words. This one'll bomb big time.

I saw that in the trailer too and my friend and I cracked up laughing, but it wasn't because it was funny, it was because it was so cheesy and lame. In fact, this whole movie looks hilariously bad.

This film looks bloody fucking terrible.Jesus,Swept Away now this?
It seems Segal needs pointless rappers to be in his films.Like what the hell? Is he trying to get into the pop culture or something? Or is it just me? Oh well,it's not really my problem.
As well the man can't act.He is trying to be like Bruce Lee,and Jackie Chan. I think it is a disgrase how the man try's to fit in. Next he's going to try to appeal to the critics,by making a film directed by some idiot willing to cast him.

I am scared of a producer willing to cast Seagal in a film. I mean there is
-Bruce Willis
-Jet Li
-Jackie Chan
-Hugh Jackman
-Jason Statham
-Mel Gibson
-Nicolas Cage
-Russell Crowe
- and many more!
Why would they go with Seagal. Oh wait, probably because the script sucks donkey balls.

Thoughts - Like most everyone in here, I too laughed at just how horrible this movie looks. Ja Rule does his sideways grin and I just want to sock him in the balls. He looks like a retarded ape.
Review - There will never be one from me.

I've read some brief reviews towards Half Past Dead and they have been good for the most-part. Word is that this is just another fun action flick though and it leaves alot of things unclear and unexplained. Obviously the pg 13 rating will probably be holding this film down, just like 2001's Behind Enemy Lines (7/10).

Here's something I thought was odd...
I saw a T.V. spot for Hald Past Dead the another night. Now, we all know that this is a Steven Seagal movie. His appeal may be waning (or has disappeared completely) but he's still a bigger name than Ja Rule or Morris Chestnut.
Now, this T.V. spot that I saw had no mention what-so-ever of Steven Seagal. No scenes with him were shown and his name was not even mentioned. I know the trailer showcased him exclusively but this T.V. spot made this out to Ja Rule's movie. In fact the entire spot showed Ja Rule over and over with a couple scenes of Morris Chestnut. I thought that was pretty odd considering it's a Steven Seagal movie! I mean he may not be as popular but Exit Wounds still made money!
Anyway, I guess the studio felt Ja Rule and Morris Chestnut would bring in more people than Steve would. Ah, who cares, I'm still going to see it.

I think more people went to see Exit Wounds for DMX than Steven Seagal. So that's probably why they are showing more of Ja Rule than him in the TV spots...

Half Past Dead is a very bad, cliche riddled, poorly acted and generic action thriller that shows that Steven Seagal hasn't changed or gotten better and that rappers do not make for good actors or action stars. Seagal plays Sasha Postokovich a Russian FBI agent (lol right! there is not one hint at an attempt at a Russian accent) who has been sent in undercover to "New Alcatraz" (a new revampt high tech prison) to be reunited with his old friend and partner Ja Rule to get at a crime boss he is seekng revenge on. But soon the prison is taken over by an elite force lead by Morris Chestnutt in hopes of threatenng a death row inmate of giving up the location of $200 million worth of gold "bricks". There is also a plot involving capital punishent and the female judge who sentenced the inmate. Yeah i feel my brain-cells disappearing as I try and rehash this moronic over-done plot. Of course Seagal goes Under Siege style with his rapping cohorts and rather cheerful for hardened criminals and prison inmates to stop the terrorists from taking over the prison etc. etc. The trouble with this movie is Seagal looks old, fat and tired...like I said for a supposed Russian he speaks impeccable English...and don't get me started on gangsta thug rappers in action-kung fu movies...they are an excuse for attitude, colorful language and to sell soundtracks....the soundtrack to this movie was just so annoying and offensive...I could just hear Ja Rule doing his gangsta thing and saying "Hey this would make a cool action movie. Let's get Seagal to do it." Why did I waste my time and money on this movie...hey I used to be a fan of Seagal and I still like his older films...but like Van Damme and Stallone he has out-grown his action-stardom, there is just no place for guys like him in action movies anymore. Overall Half Past Dead is barely watchable, plausible or tolerable...in simpler terms The Rock(a great movie about Alcatraz and terrorists) this film is not.

it made 8.2 million if i am correct???if so,hey thats passable enough for the film, espicially for THIS film...it surely got a bad buzz as far as critics and "bigtime" moviegoers as it did here and such to an extent....so i would say thats a good enough gross for opening weekend, and they should be thankful, hell i was doubting they could make that in total gross....i thought for sure it would make maybe 3-4 million opening weekend, surprised me actually,i still want to see it but like i said many and many times before im low on cash, have to save it for christmas and the next wrestling show coming around town :)
