I find this sequal to the great NOES to be very underrated. I will admit that the acting is a little cheasy but other than that it's a good film.

I agree. I've found that a lot of people hate this one, saying it has gay overtones. I find it underrated too. I remember as a kid being freaked out during the school bus scene because I was riding a bus to school everyday back then. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

This is my least favorite of the Nightmare movies, but it does have a lot of cool moments. The whole beginnning scene on the bus is really sweet, and when Freddy crashes the party. That's cool too. I don't hate this movie, but it could have done better. It starts out good, has its moments, but the ending let me down too. Overall, I give Freddy's Revenge a 6/10.

I hope the dvd looks better cause the video is way too dark! I hate movies that are too dark!

While it's clearly not the best of the NOES sequels, I think it's head and shoulders above Parts 4,5, & 6! I put NOES 2: Freddy's Revenge behind only the first one and Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

I enjoyed NOES2 to a degree. For one thing, Freddy isn't an all out comedian yet. He gave me the creeps in this sequel which is more than I can say for parts 3-6. Also, I appreciate the fact that it tried to do something different with the series. Freddy's Revenge could have easily been a simple rehash of the original, but it wasn't. Of course, a key rule is broken. Freddy now has the ability to jump in and out of reality whenever he wants to. That rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't care for the title either. Freddy's Revenge? It's not only bland, it doesn't make a lick of sense. Who is he getting revenge against exactly? Overall, I kinda dug this flick. It had some nice death sequences and had a cool, gloomy atmosphere. My rating-3/5

I dug Elm Street 2. Not as good as the original or New Nightmare, but better than all the other sequels. It was slow at points, not everything made sense (why the hell did Jesse go back to the gym with the coach?), and the final confrontation was a bit of a cop out. **spoiler** I would have prefered it if Lisa was forced to kill Jesse rather than going with the whole "love conquers all" thing**end spoiler**

On the upside, it did have some atmosphere and a dark feel to it. Freddy was actually better here than in the original (in my opinion) and the pool party massacre is one of the best sequences of the series. It also had it's creepy moment or two and dared to try something different. As for the gay overtones, I think this movie has them (or maybe it was just the way Mark Patton played Jesse....he's gay in real life) but they don't detract from the movie in my view. In fact, they make it more unique. What other slasher film has used such symbolism as well as Freddy's Revenge did?

Although I hated this movie, I own the boxed set of Nightmare DVD's, and watched this one more than any of the others...Probably because I hated it so much in the past that I never watched it, but it honestly isn't all THAT bad...I mean, it has a weird storyline, but aren't movies about dead killer's supposed to be a little strange? And it is VERY hard to point out a horror movie that had GOOD acting.

I enjoyed this one. It was very funny. It was a lot of fun, I laughed so much. It's a great movie to watch with a group of friends, you will laugh your ass off. And the gay undertones were very obvious and pretty damn funny. I loved the scene on the bus in the beginning, those girls are so funny, "driver, that was our stop." I
couldn't stop laughing about that, even after the movie was over. It was so damn funny. And the guys little sister in this movie was a pretty bad child actor and when she said "daddy, I'm scared" I started laughing, it was so funny. And the exploding bird was also funny. If you don't take this movie seriously it's a lot of fun. Be prepared to laugh a lot! It's one of my personal favorites...

I don't know what to give it for a grade though. I really enjoyed it as a fun movie, but it's not up to the quality of some of the others in the series. It's just a lot of FUN. One of my favorites out of the series.

The 'GAY OVERTONES' in the movie are coincidental, not intentional. Director JACK SHOLDER wasn't even aware that MARK PATTON was gay. He found out after the shoot. Anyway, i LOVE this movie. You can take it seriously to a certain degree or you can just laugh your ass off! I do both. Upon watching NOES 4 for the first time when i was about 10, i classed it as my favourite in the series. I watched it for the second time the other day, and boy is it a bad movie. Violence is pretty shit, acting was terrible, and freddy was a comedian. Liked the cameos from JOEY and KINCAID though.

So anyway, my point is that NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 is my favourite in the whole series, and i'm being serious!

P.S. - ROBERT RUSLER RULES.

I'm sorry to all the people that liked this turd, but it my opinion, it is just terrible. If you have the DVD collections, I'm sure you've seen where the people involved talk about the film. No one involved with the series even liked this horrible film. The diector spent all his time on camera trying to defend it as everyone ran it into the ground.

This film is incredibly boring, the kids are no where near as good as any of the other films, hell, only 4 people die in the film. What the fuck is that all about?? Freddy can now exist in the real world for some reason, and he is beaten by a puss.

This is the Halloween 5 of the NOES series.

The Undertaker

"hell, only 4 people die in the film. What the fuck is that all about??"

Um...the original only had a body count of four. The Dream Child, Freddy's Dead, and New Nightmare had even less. If anything, Freddy's Revenge has the highest body count of the series (mostly due to the pool massacre). The Elm Street movies have never been known for their high body counts so I don't really see where you're coming from.

They had it on t.v. last night.
I liked the part where Freddy burts out of the guy's chest that was cool.
Why is it that evry 80s horror film is too dark for me? Is there something wrong with my t.v.?

Pool Massacre?? Excuse me, but I watched that damn scene and I see Freddy kill one kid, ONE KID, how is that a massacre?? All the other kids ran, and the only one stupid enough to get killed deserved it. Who in their right mind would try to talk sense to Freddy??

1 JESSE IS IN A GAY BAR CHECK OUT THE BOYS IN LEATHER COME ON PEOPLE!!!!

This movie is tough to rate. For instance, I hated the clothes that the boy wore, as well as some of the gay tones, lack of action, weird actors and a bad finale. On the plus side, this movie has spooky lighting, pretty good SFX, Good acting, a few chilling scenes and a good freddy. He was better in this than he was in 4,5 and 6, and this is a better sequel than 4,5 $ 6. I actually found Freddy to be creepier in this one than the original. 1,7,3,2 $ 6,5,4

This isnt bad, Its much better than the godawful comedic flop NOES6. I hate that movie! This one has lots of unintentional comedy in it and a creepier than usual Freddy. And as far as the body count goes Its exactly like what was explained earlier, NOES isnt known for body count, Then again Halloween 1 and TCM only had about 3-4 kills in them too. Though I love large body counts I wont held it against this flick, I'd give it a 3/5

CANDYMAN'S BITCH -

You obviously didn't READ what i wrote. The DIRECTOR of the movie said HIMSELF in an INTERVIEW that he never intended it to be that way. He never made up the idea that FREDDY should be a homo child molester! Yes, the movie has a character who appears to be gay (the coach), JESSE walking into the bar naked wasn't supposed to make it look like he was also gay.

Anyway, there's no point in arguing because either way the movie is funnier when you think that they didn't mean for it to be so blatantly gay.

i liked a nightmare on elm street 2. although the acting was corny and the plot was corny the actor who played jesse was hot. i loved all those scenes of him in his underwear. and when he was sweating profusely oh god yes.

Well, the Gay stuff does add a lot of unintentional humor that really makes the move better, I mean me and my friends can watch it and crack on how gay it is and have a good laugh. I guess what I'm trying to say us unless your homphobic or cant take a joke you'll find the gay stuff to be a funny bonus to the flick.

This is my least favorite film. That doesn't mean I hate it.I love all the Elm Street movies but one has to be on the bottom of the list and this is it.It was also the first one in the series I saw and was also the very first movie I watched when I began to get into horror. It freaked the shit outta me and I waited until the daytime to watch 4 and 5.Which were nowhere near as scary as the first two.

It's not the best of the series by any means, but it's still not a shit movie. People complain about the fact that Freddy was in the real world in this movie. Are they forgetting that he was also in the real world for the last 10 minutes of the first movie?

I do agree, however, that Freddy walking about a swimming pool scaring teenagers, many of which were taller than him, is a bit much.

And yes, the director was a gay gentleman. As was the actor who played Jesse. And when you see that this was his 3rd and last movie (after "Anna To The Infinite Power" and the hilariously-titled "Come Back To The Five And Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean"), it seems that other people thought he was gay too.

The best part of the movie had to be that chick Kim Myers and her breasts. Sorry to any females, but I guess I'm just a warm-blooded male.

I just saw this movie the other day for the first time and I'd say it's mostly good for a laugh. Whether or not the gay subtext was intentional, I'll take the directors word that it wasn't it's fun to spot. My favourite gay moment- the late night visit to Grady's room. The actor playing Jesse is so crap it's fun as well, he has the funniest scream in motion picture history, so shrill and so high he puts Ned Flanders to shame. For some reason a couple my friends almost asphyxiated themselves with laughter at the 'Oh god he's coming back!' line about three quarters of the way into the movie. The possesed budgie was pretty funny as well. That said it was still better than a lot of the later entries into the series like Freddy's Dead and The Dream Child. It maintained Freddy's image as an actually scary character and actually tried to do something different.

First off the guy is called Jesse ! In Scotland the word Jesse is slag for a girly poof. Secondly the studio tryed to hard to cash in on the success of the first elm street and thought that would carry the film. If only the spent more money on decent actors and better effects. Never mind it is a good laugh for all the gay innuendos whether they be unintentional or not

well jesse is gay and that's that yeah the scene where he walks in the s & m bar was a little freaky and that coach was retarded making him run it was off school grounds for god's sake

that scene was funny but the all time funniest scene to me was the birds and when they exploded and they thought the house had gas gosh that family was stupid i would have ran out of that house if that happened also another funny moment was the toaster on fire oh my it's burning not even plugged in and the family just stands there like oh well i am sorry if that happened in my house i would be long gone but jesse is still hot when he lies there in his underwear no doubt

ANOES 2 was the worst one ever made. The only way I can enjoy that film is to miss it when it’s on. I think the gay thing was done on purpose for the following reasons:

1. Spanking to get revenge on a coach you hate? Come on that’s not how punishment is dished out on Elm Street. I would have had Freddy combine a weight machine with a guillotine so that if you drop the bar the blade decapitates the guy chained to the bench. Freddy would start stacking on the weights. Just as the coach is about to lose it Freddy says he is out of weight and walks away complaining about how much the gym sucks. The coach begs Jesse for help. Jesse looks like he is thinking it over when he hears the sound of someone running. We see Freddy just as he pole-vaults off the ground and up onto the top of the stack. The blade comes down, the head comes off and maybe Freddy makes a head coach joke.

2. Male only nudity. I think ANOES 2 was one of the first horror movie that had that. I dont remember any horror movie before that where the guys took it off and the girls didnt.

3. In comparing the book, "Nightmares on Elm Street Parts 1 2 3" by Jeffrey Cooper, to the movies I have noticed the following differences ***Spoiler Warning***:

First ANOES: Slightly different end (very slight nothing that adds or subtracts). But, from what I have read, there are three slightly different ends to the moive so the difference may have been attributed to the versions I saw.

ANOES 2: When Jesse and Tina (or whatever his girlfriends name was) are making out it describes him looking and grabing her bare brests. The other difference is at the end after Freddys hand errupts from the girl he crawls out of her and kills Tina in front of Jesse just before the bus goes off road.

ANOES 3: This had the most differences, probably because they had not finished making the movie when the book was being written but it was 80% consistant with movie.

The question is, if what was in the ANOES 2 part of the book was made directly the script (as the others seem to be) then why were those parts not included in the movie?

Although the book is out of print there are copies still for sell out there. Amazon.com has two listings for it. They have used copies for $0.99 and a third party retailer listing for $5.00.

If you don`t like to deal with Amazon you also get them thru www.barnesandnoble.com (http://www.barnesandnoble.com) third party sellers. Its more round about because just entering the title does not work. To search type in "nightmare elm", goto the bottom of the search results and click on the link "more titles from our network of out of print dealers". The second and third listings from the bottom will be dealers who have copies.

The book has four sections, the first three covered the movies, the fourth section is called and the Life and Death of Freddy Krugger.

Its been a few years since I have read the book, but I don`t think there was anything mentioning Freddy`s spirt being bound to the house itself. I think he was more bound to the neighborhood of those who killed him. Although, Nancy`s home did house Freddy`s one true love for all those years.

thanks i will look into that info for the movie. but anywho i still think the birds flying around attacking the family was funny cuz that family was stupid they just stand there and the bird bites the dad and then they try to kill it with a broom for peet's sake. hello can we say gun i would have blown that thing with a gun. also how the hell can they live in a house with a temperature of 97 degrees F that is almost death heat. well that's that i know when nancy and her mom lived there it was a lot cooler cuz the door was blue and they took good care of the house.

It is a good film that falters with a story line that didn't make some sense to me and a ridiculous ending. The movie did have some neat sequences (like the opening), and the scene where Freddy comes out of Jesse is a classic (and a great achievment in make-up FX).

well the special effects i won't lie were good for a low budget movie but the thing that still gets me is how that family could live in that house when it was 97 degrees F and how could jesse in that one scene stay in his room that was so hot it melted the phone his lamp and his record and all that sweat off his body too ooh yeah

I don't get why people hate this one you complain when sequels are more of the same, but when a sequel dares to be different you complain again(Halloween 3 or Friday 5).This one is my third favorite in the NOES series. At least Freddy wasn't a one liner comidien he was still what he started as a child molester.

NOES Series(best to worst)
NOES 7: The New Nightmare
NOES 1
NOES 2: Freddy's Revenge
NOES 3: Dream Warriors
NOES 4: Dream Master
NOES 5: Dream Child
NOES 6: Freddy's Dead

Anyone else notice that as they got made the movies went down in quality.

It was so obvious the Patton guy was a little flaky, and it's hilarious the director supposedly had no idead that he was.

Not that i care, but he was one of the main weaknesses in the film, because he was so feminine and fragile. That young lady who played his girlfriend,oh man,she was delicious.

From what i remember NM2 was entertaining when i saw it back in 85 or whenever it was,but i'm not so sure i would enjoy now,i would have to rent it again to see if it still holds up.

I watched this flick again recently and I have to admit that it creeped me out more than any other Elm Street entry. Freddy is just one mean motherfucker here. He doesn't clown around or try to make us laugh. Although, the swimming pool scene did bring some genuinely funny moments. "Help yourself, fucker!"

Yes, the original NOES rules are broken, allowing Freddy to leap in and out of reality as he so pleases, and yes, the homoerotic undertones are painfully hard to ignore, making certain situations come off as goofy (I love Mark Patton's scream), but despite these drawbacks, I still believe Freddy's Revenge to be a shamefully underrated sequel.

I've read so many scripts that looked great on the written page, but somehow lost something on the screen for whatever reason.

I guess it's difficult to capture the essence or the spirit behind the author, especially when producers and studio heads get involved, not to mention time constraints. If they did, every film would be 4 hours plus.

It seems as though women probably relate to the main character much more readily than men(i don't exactly want to see some guy in a shower or charming the snake).

My favorite is still the first one,and i felt the sequels became redundant.Craven captured the confusion, frustration, naiveite, innocence, and the sheer horror of youth(specifically the teen years).Kruger was the metaphor for the adults in society who would corrupt the vulnerable youth,as they were corrupted by predatory adults when they were young.

The only defense against him was innocence and grace,he was powerless against them, because his soul was eternally damned.

Only the first installment exbited these aspects of the human psyche, all the other ones after that lost sight of this, but 2 and 3 did work on an exploitative level. And like i said, that young lady in part 2(she has to be at least 40 now),was spectacular.

well another thing i have thought about when i was a kid was what if nancy had been in this movie as like a guiding hand to help jesse battle freddy? i think that would have been cool also i had heard a rumor that this movie originally had johnny depp to play jesse i was wondering if that was true or not

Yes in the original one the door was blue and in this one the door is red, in the commentary on the first nightmare dvd, the director of photography said they used red because it would look better and scarier with the green roof, thas all.

I saw this movie for the first time a couple months ago and I really enjoyed it. It had suspense, humor, and was just an al around enjoyable time! I just got the box set last two weeks ago and I watched it again last night and I still like it alot. Now yes, Jessie is a geek and he screams like a girl, but I guess he just takes after his old man! Yes some of the acting is shit, but then again not all of the acting in the first was flawless! I saw this movie before I had heard anything about the gay undertones and I really didn't notice them until my second viewing last night. The body count is actually five! Freddy kills, the coach, Grady, and three guys at the pool party, (one slashing across the face right after knocking all the stuff off of the table, stabbing another in the belly, and slashing the idiotic negotiator. My favorite scene in the film is the negotiator talking Freddy. The look Freddy gives, tilting his head. His face just says: "Who the fuck is this shithead?" And then his awesome response to the kid's peace talks and my favorite line of the film: "Help yourself, Fucker!" My other favorite line: "You are all my children now!"

SPOILER: I will admit that the ending is a downer with the love conquering all, and the baby-headed rotwilers, but i still enjoy this film.

I rank the films: 1, 3, 7, 2, 4, 5, 6

And the opening bus scene and that Freddy pulling his head open to show his brain are pretty narly! And in response to how Jessie could sleep in a room that is so hot it makes his lamp and records melt, that scene was actually a dream.

connieb
04-09-2002, 08:31 PM
ok that would make sense that his room would be hot while he was in there sweating profuesly makes sense cuz i remember after he stepped out of the room it didn't seem like a furnance. another scene i like is when freddy's glove is in jessie's drawer and he stands over it hearing freddy say kill for me and then he goes in that next room and his sister is there

Actually the bodycount was more than 5 HalloweenShape31.If you'll remember one kid had his neck broke when some others were trying to get over thwe fence and a few more of them might have been burnt to death when they too were trying to climb a fence and then they fell behind a bush that started to burn.

It did try to be different!
You guys are right. Freddy's Revenge is not as bad as people say.
Plus, the coach was funny.
WTF was the ending about?

In reply to conneib, my friend thinks Jesse was hot and so was the coach.
When i watched NOES 2 I felt slightly cheated because i felt it lacked some of the story and action that the first supplied.
I never really noticed the gay thing untill i checked out this site and i thought it was a great touch.

man this movie is wack. it took to long to get to the killings sences and the actors are shitty. the best NOES movie is part 3 cause you see more killings sences (well part 4 do too)and part three should'ev been part 2 and part 2 shouldn't even been made.the rest of the movie is good too, but dammit they should gave freddy little shit to say, and stop trying to turn these horror movies into a comedy, they should kept him the way he was in NOES part 1. and too those who wonder why the movie is too dark, its because it's old. you want to see the picture clearly and not too dark, get the digital remastered verison VHS or DVD..throw them old tapes away.
