Does anyone get the Action Network on cable? I don't know how long I've had it...I don't know if it's a pay station, it's site says it's part of the Starz Superpak, but I don't have the Starz Superpak.

They played Akira in letterbox the other night (the first time I've seen it) Great movie. Seems like they have a lot of foreign films on there. I think they're replaying Akira tonight.

I also caught Blame It On Rio on the Love Stories channel.

Question: Was this the real version of AKIRA or the usual shitty, choppy edited-for-TV version that you see on American television?

I can't answer that question, as it was the first time I saw it, but it didn't seem editted. It was pretty graphic.

Can you give examples of what is usually editted? I'll give examples of what made me smile:

Spoilers:

During the motorcycle chase at the beginning one of the guys was thrown off his bike and landed on his neck, then the pike behind him proceeded to run over his arm.

When the military was gassing everyone, there was an innocent bystander walking out of the gas cloud. A military guy just looked at him and fired another one at him at point blank range.

Near the beginning there was a guy walking with the blue faced kid, and the military surrounds him, and they twice completely unload on him and shoot his body to shreds.

When connoda shoots the guy in the sewer going after Kay right through the face/cheek.

Those seemed like sccenes that would have been editted for TV, plus the language was harsh, and they ripped the girls shirt off after Tet (not good on the names yet still only saw it once time...but i did tape it.) left the facility for the first time.

***SPOILERS!***

Sounds like the actual version, but the real acid test is Tetsuro's death scene, specifically, how long did it run and did they show Cowry's (sp?) overly gruesome demise as well?

I'll re-watch it tonight and let you know.

** Spoilers **

I timed it from when Tetsuo's arm first extended after the Colonial for the first time, to when Kaneda closed his hands over the bead of light, it was about 14 minutes.

I'm not sure who Cowry is, but if it's the girl that gets sucked into Tetsuo, they showed her getting crushed, and then the pocket where she is just fills with blood.

Yeah, that was the full thing alright (I really didn't expect you to time it, but I admire the dedication). Big points to the Action Network for having the balls to show it in it's entirety.
