There are seven of these movies now right? How many of them are any good? I have steered clear of the sequels for some time now, and suddenly have the urge to rent them all. What do you all think of the Puppet Master Series?

I have only seen the first 5 films, so I can give you the low down on them.

Puppet Master 1 and 2 show the puppets as murderous and a force to be reckened with. There are some decent kills but the films are pretty average.

Puppet Master 3 is the prequal to show how the puppets were created by Toulon in Germany during the Third Reich and how he attempted to get his creations out of the hands of the Nazis. A decent back story that shows the puppets as protective of their master and his friends.

Part 4 and 5 are share the same story and are only about 82 minutes each. They tell the story of a tech geek that comes across the puppets and Toulon's notes and has to work with the puppets to stop an evil demon from taking back the power of the puppets. A pretty decent story, but it looks like it was made with a Sony handicam in someone's attic. Still worth seeing if you enjoy the other films.

I hear that 6 and 7 really stink, but there may be someone who enjoyed tham. I haven't seen them where I live, however I did see them in Britain when I was there earlier in the year, but didn't want to shell out £4 to rent them.

This comes from a fan of Puppet Master (ME) so take heed of what you read:

Puppet Master 1 - Slow and boring for the most part, but the opening and ending aren't bad. About psychiatrists who are lured to an old mansion by a colleague of theirs who had died, but appears to very much alive. And puppets attack.

Puppet Master 2 - A little better. They pay homage or rip off the Invisible Man with the Toulon character, introduces the kick ass puppet, Torch, and ends with an opening for a sequel that never happened, oops. They raise their master back from the grave cause they're running out of juice (life). But Toulon has other plans for the secret of life. Pretty enjoyable, actually.

Puppet Master 3 - Best of the series. Great story (Puppets vs. Nazis) and good effects. Guy Rolfe plays a great Andre Toulon. And we learn about the puppets previous lives. Recommended above all others.

Puppet Master 4 - Filmed back to back with PM5. A younger, hipper Puppet Master. The evil demon that Toulon stole the secret of giving life from is out to destroy all those who know about the secret, by sending out Totems (really tall, scary, wooden puppet things). Decent movie. Introduced Decapitron, a Frankenstein-like puppet, who was kind of cool, but I could rant on him for a bit.

Puppet Master 5 - Read above, only the demon puts his soul into a somewhat stronger Totem, and a guy in a business suit with 3 thugs for hire go after that damn secret. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Puppet Master 6 (Curse of...) - This is a travesty of a movie. I've read all sorts of stuff about the movie while it was being filmed. The end result is nothing what is was supposed to be. I could rant forever about it, and I might do that later, if anyone cares. Incredibly bad.

Puppet Master 7 (Retro PM) - Better than Curse, but its all PG crap, so we get no gore at all (a lot of dust though). And an overused rippling effect for the "magical" effect. It made me dizzy. Story was slightly good though.

The future. . Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys - Demonic Toys was the gorier of the two series, but Puppet Master could expand to different storylines, they could go places. The Toys were stuck in an old toy factory, not a whole lot to do. The first movie was ok, but the second one (Dollman vs. Demonic Toys) combined 3 different movies (the above 2 and Bad Channels) and the movie clocked in at just over 1 hour. And that's including around 10 minutes of Dollman footage. Aye. How this Vs. movie happens, I don't know, but I hope for the best.
