I have dicussed this with dh1989,and he wanted the Harris passing away thread to be for him,and not who will play him.So I have taken the duties to post the thread.
So the question is-After the death of Richard Harris, who will play the great Albus Dumbledore?
There has been talk that Santa Clause(Mircale on 34th Street) himslef could play the great man.At first I thought of Peter Boyle.I don't know why,but he just popped into my head.
Harris was perfect for the part, and I don't think no man could have his greatness. But now, let's discuss.

Richard Attenborough is a possible candidate.
So are: Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Peter O'Toole and Christopher Lee.

Richard Attenbourogh is the ideal choice to play Dumbledore now, I think. The only other actor I would think of is: Peter O' Toole. For some reason I do not think Chrsitopher Lee would be good Dumbledore. Although Richard Harris will always be remembered as the ultimate Albus Dumbledore.

Agreed, Richard Attenborough is the perfect choice, hands down. It just makes sense...
Christopher Lee has said he won't do it, Sean Connery and Michael Caine, while great actors, are both not suited for the role and would not take the role. Peter O'Toole...I could see it, I really could. But Attenborough seems right.
Rest in peace, Mr. Harris.

Yeah he has that kind of Dumbledore to him.Thing is will he do the film? He probably will though. Christopher Lee has other projects to attend to as well, plus he seems to eerie to play him.
Great stuff so far....
RIP Richard Harris.

I think Sean Connery is a wonderful actor, but I just don't fancy him as Dumbledore. He has a strong Scottish accent and Dumbledore does not and too many people know his face by heart, it would be Sean Connery up there talking to Harry, not Dumbledore. I think a lot of kids really got into Dumbledore in the Potter films because they did not know who Harris was, so he was just Dumbledore in their minds. I think Peter O' Toole and Richard Attenbourogh would keep that running.

OK, A few weeks ago there was a story in a London newspaper about Richard Harris being quite I'll and that he may not be able to do the next HP movie, They gave theimpression that his Double (used in the first two moves) has been told to prepare to step in, I don't recall his name, but is apparently he looks exsactly like him, and has been instructed to work on his voice. How that Richard Harris has passed away I would assume this stand in will step into the part.

I think Sir Ian McKellen would be a suitable choice to replace the late, great Richard Harris.
Christopher Lee made the crossover between Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, so it
wouldn't be too big of a leap for McKellen to cross between Lord of the Rings and Harry
Potter. Perhaps the best bet would be for Harris' wonderful portrayal of Albus Dumbeldore
to be resumed by an unkown - his stand-in as Flare mentioned.

Apparently Christopher Lee was the original choice to play Dumbledore, from what I hear. He turned it down due to commitments to Lord of the Rings. He rarely has played a character of good means, always being cast as a villain. I think he'd be fine in the role, but anyone who replaces Harris will have a hard time overcoming the power of his presence.
I have also heard that Christopher Plummer is a possibility.
For Ian McKellan to play Dumbledore would be kind of confusing. Fans of Lord of the Rings might wonder why Gandalf is pretending to be Dumbledore. The look is too similar. Grey beard, pointy hat, same type of personality. Lee would be better because the characters are not similar.
I doubt that McKellan would want to play a grey-bearded wizard a fourth time in a row.

If you were wondering what Richard Harris' double looks like, just pop in your copy of the first Harry Potter film, he has a cameo in it. Right after the Welcoming Feast, as Percy Weasley leads the Gryffindor students to their common room, there is a moving portrait of a man in front of a typewriter who says "Welcome to Hogwarts!". I think he looks the part very much, but I do not know if he can pull off the huge role of Albus Dumbledore.

I agree. Just because someone looks the part doesn't mean he can play the part. An experienced actor like one of the ones already mentioned would be preferrable.

The WB denied that some time ago. Check out the PoA countdown...........

I definately think that it has to be someone that isn't THAT well know, like if it was sean connery...someone said before that we would think "oh look, sean connery"...when we should be thinking "look, it's dumbledore".
that's why i think it should be his double or whatever...it just makes sense. that role is really fragile if anyone messes with it, and tries to play dumbledore differently i am gonna be really pissed. it HAS to be someone unknown, or the double, otherwise the role will be ruined.
