Very good read so far. It's the last book in Drew Karpshsyn's (lead writer of the Mass Effect series) Darth Bane trilogy. I've read many Star Wars books in my time, but I have to say this series is easily one of the best I've read. Mainly because it deals with a totally different time in the Star Wars Universe that hasn't been explored much (in terms of novels). It's also cool having the protagonists of the story being Sith. On a whim I picked up the first book in the trilogy at a bookstore a couple years back now and I'm glad I did. It's been a fun journey.

Yeah, I'm reading Gormenghast by Mervyn peake. It's the second in his Gormenghast trilogy; the first is Titus Groan ( which I've also read) and the third is Titus Alone ( which I haven't read yet). It's an absolutely hilarious book. It's set in an ancient crumbling Gothic Castle full of weird crazy warped characters with cartoonish bodies to match their warped personalities. It's a wonderful combination of hilarity and Gothic dread and gloom and horror. And Mervyn Peake is a genius at describing settings. He describes them in detail. And he doesn't mind bringing the story to a halt for a few paragraphs just for the pleasure of taking in all the aesthetics of a setting. which is something I love. One more thought: this is prime Tim Burton material. If I saw him at a convention or something I'd recommend this trilogy to him in the hopes that he'd film it ( not in animated form but in live-action). If it were up to me what he filmed after Dark Shadows, this would definitely be it.

I had to give up on reading Desperation for right now. I like it but I just can't handle it right now with school and work so I wanted to go with something I could breeze through. So I went with this:

So far it's pretty good. I haven't read anything else by the author but his other books sound good, he's got a few vampire and zombie books.

Going through midnight's children and trying to browbeat myself into sticking with gravity's rainbow (which I've actually never read) even though I've looked at other pynchon books and have just... Just zero interest in the drug counterculture he threads all over the place. People tell me that's completely off point and I'm jumping at ghosts in the bong smoke, so I'm giving him a second chance with gravity's rainbow. It's supposed to be great.

Also need to try Dune even though I can't handle sci-fi. I just can't.

Dune is great, in every way, not just in typical sci fi ways. Though it is very sci fi. But it's got sandworms. Sandworms!

I'ma probably try my hand at Gravity's Rainbow this summer, though I'm not sure if I wanna start off with it or start off with something like V, which is slightly less imposing. Never read Pynchon before.

I'm rereading Frankenstein for class. A fun time, not my favorite book in the world but I always liked it.

I am currently reading Jesse Ventura's "American Conspiracies: Lies, Lies, and More Dirty Lies that the Government Tells Us." I love reading conspiray theories, they make you think what if this could have happened. I don't believe all of them, but some seem possible.

If you have seen the TV show, you know what to expect from the book. If you like to read about conspiracy theories, this is a good book to read.

Zombie Survival Guide -2/5.

Good reviews at Amazon and a catchy title, it seemed like a good idea to read this until you actually read it. Not only is it repetitive and over a 100 pages too long, the whole thing would seem like 'common sense' if you watch a shitload of zombie movies. I get that it's supposed to be funny how Brooks goes into such great detail on how to survive an attack and how it reads like an instruction manual but it didn't tickle one funny bone in me.

The Bro Code - reading atm.

Pretty good apocalypse book so far, about 250 pages in (about a 1/3 of the way through)

The book seems to be written in distinct parts. I finished the part at the beginning involving Wolgast and Amy and the beginning of the outbreak and then the much shorter part in the cabin. From the looks of it, Wolgast is toast and Amy is the sole remaining character from the first part of the book. Very interesting to start anew a third of the way in, unless Amy comes back of course.

Elmore Leonard's 'Swag'. Certainly not the best of his, but still pretty damn good. Finally gets grounded halfway through and gets to the intensity Leonard captures best. It's no 'Mr. Majestyk', that's for sure.

Such a let down, though I don't know why I expected it to be as worthwhile as the originals. The Dune Saga is one of my all time favorites in the medium of sci-fi world building.

I was loving the crap out of it, but unfortunately as I got it from the library and had re-checked it out too many times (I take forever reading library books) it's going to have to wait until I get my own copy. Which shouldn't take long. It was probably my favorite non-Sandman work of Neil Gaiman's from what I had read (about midway through). So for right now, I finally pulled down a book off my shelf I'd been meaning to read for some time...

I'm about 250 pages in and loving the crap out of it. I'm really, really glad I got frustrated with Salvatore's popcorn fare Drizzt books (I got to The Silent Blade and just said "Fuck this.") and started looking into adult fantasy.

Nice. I absolutely love The Outsider and The Colour out of Space. Looks like you got a good volume there.

Oh, I adore those two stories. I've been a Lovecraft fan for years, but never just plunked down the cash for that volume, so my wife finally just up and bought it for me as an anniversary gift. I had a couple different ones before that collected quite a few of my favorite stories, but left out a bunch of important ones. Now I've just got all of his work, and I think last time I checked I was on The Lurking Fear, another first time read. I think the only story of his that I don't like is Herbert West, Re-Animator, and I despise it. It's just so kitschy and obviously uncared for that it just oozes out of the page.

I read the keep first and loved it.

I was reading about the Adversary Cycle and according to a quote from F. Paul Wilson he recommends reading all the Repairman Jack novels before reading the last book in the Adversary Cycle (http://www.repairmanjack.com/faq_II.htm). That's a lot of books.

I just got done reading The Keep and I loved as well. I think F. Paul said he plans on doing a total of 15 Repairman Jack books. Thanks for the link, that helps me out a lot figuring out which to read next.

Carrie. Finished two of Stephen King's books today so figured I'd move onto another I have yet to read.

Working on Michael Connelly's "The Lincoln Lawyer" and Chris Jericho's second book. Both are fucking great. All of the Fozzy stuff is kind of boring in Y2J's book though.

I'm not reading it right at this minute but it comes out later this month and I will surely be reading it then! It is called Drylor The First Artifact. The book is rumored to be one of the nine in the series and already has a big following on facebook for how new it is.
