Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey
True life story of a group of 14 year old kids, mostly girls, who beat a 14 year old female classmate to death in Vancuver and threw her body under a bridge into a Gorge. The book is a recounting of the events both pre and post murder, with interviews from the actual kids and whatnot. Quite interesting.

No you're not. I haven't read it and I'm not planning to.
People used to ask me why not. I used to respond that life is short. Too short for books like The Da Vinci Code anyway (wasted my time with the movie though).

I haven't read it either... My friends keep trying to tell me how great it is, and offering me the book (even in audio form), but I just can't get myself to join in. The movie even looks lame.

I read it last month, and when I was done I literally threw it against the wall as hard as I could. Only twice in my life have I EVER mistreated a book. After reading this, and with one hundred pages left in STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND.

And said "Since I know how much you love movies, read this."
A short synopsis for those who don't know who Irving Thalberg was:
Irving Thalberg is one of Hollywood's success stories - and tragedies. A mogul at MGM by the age of 25, he produced classic films like Ben Hur, Mutiny on the Bounty, Grand Hotel, and hundreds more. Thalberg brought taste, daring, and vast profits to MGM before his tragic death at the age of 37. This is an authoritative look at the "boy wonder" and his achievements.

I haven't gotten too far, but it begins with him on stage using blaspehmous imagery about Christ, which causes a near riot in the audience and leads him to jump off the stage like a coked up rock star...and then he goes into his childhood, and how his skull was punctured after stealing food.
I can only ascertain it gets crazier from there...

To be honest, Heir to the Empire didn't have much that grabbed my attention until about halfway through the book... but the second half definitely sucked me in.
I recently bought just about all the non-children's fare Star Wars novels released in hardcover (that's 45 books so far, not including a few that haven't yet arrived from Amazon) and I'll slowly be wading my way through them soon enough. I started with the Thrawn trilogy since it had the earliest release year (1991) and I figured that was a good launching point considering people's praise for it.

I'm a little behind on my Harry Potter books so I'm currently reading the Sixth one. I bought it at midnight when it first came out but I didn't get into it. Just didn't want to read it. But now that the last book came out and I don't want to have it spoiled by someone else since the books are just so...well magical. So I figured I'd take the next week staying away from all spoilers and such and read the last two books. Let's hope I can come through with it.

I started with the Thrawn trilogy since it had the earliest release year (1991) and I figured that was a good launching point considering people's praise for it.
yeah, the first half of heir to the empire is rather slow. The Last Command is just so amazing though. You'll be happy you read the books after reading that one.
i'm halfway through Deathly Hallows right now, so far, pretty good book, i'm happy with the way it's going so far.

I read Deathly Hallows yesterday (Took just over 9 hours), and so now I've started :-

I've been planning to read it for a while, and now I've finally got Harry and Friends out of the way (at least until the re-read of Hallows that I think I'm gonna need before passing judgemen on it) it seemed like the ideal time.

I'm currently reading the Sandman series. I've read books 1-4 so far. Halfway through book 5, and aside from the shitty art in chapter 3 (It's hard to tell who it is, exactly, because for some reason they refuse to list the writer and illustrator at the beginning of each issue, like normal fucking folk; although I know it's not Shawn McManus, who rocks fucking ass, so that narrows it down a bit) it's my favorite thus far. Really imaginative shit. Seaons of Mist was really great too. Looking forward to reading the rest.

GREAT GATSBY POTENTIAL SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!!!!!!!
Gatsby was good, it was a quick read. The ending was drawn out I thought and could have been shortened. After the death, I understand that there needed to be some resolution for Nick and the realization that no one actually cared about Gatsby was fairly obvious. I guess it is kind of the point that not much was really resolved. The people Gatsby worked with will continue doing what they did, as will Daisy and Tom. Meanwhile Gatsby and his parties remain a memory and Nick gets a waek up call on humanity.
Kind of going blindly as I don't have the book in front of me though.

Just finished HULK: Grey by Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb-- Definitely a good, quick read...
I pretty much read anything by that team-- Superman: Confidential. The Long Halloween. Dark Victory. Haunted Knight. Superman: For all seasons. Daredevil: Yellow. Spiderman: Blue... They are all good!
I dont give a fuck--- they are such a dynamic team-- if i see they worked on something, i pick it up.

So I decided not to read Spook Country yet - after re-reading Pattern Recognition I'm kinda "Gibsoned" out for a while, so I've started reading the following instead :-

One of the very few Stephen-King-novels-adapted-to-film/televison that I haven't read... but I'm sure I'll get to it sometime soon.
I'm taking a break from Star Wars books for a bit (as if announcing it to strangers gives it some level of importance) so now I'm reading:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Gatekeeper Trilogy by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder

Still reading Neal Stephenson's CRYPTONOMICON. I finally broke the 400 page mark (it's 1200 pages or something).
I'm lovin' it. The dude's a great writer. FUNNY FUNNY similes and shit. I'll pick up more of his stuff in the future. But next on my list is GAIJIN, which is 1300 pages so it will be ages before I get to anything else by Stephenson.

Wizard's First Rule
Catching up. I had left it about 400 pages through. Hope to finish it soon. Odd how the instant I grabbed it again, I was much more into it than the first time. I'm really beginning to learn how to read these high fantasy stories.

Speaking of werewolf books, you really should check out THE WOLF'S HOUR by Robert McCammon if you haven't already.
It's a WWII spy story where the main character is a lycanthrope. Super-violent, and action packed. It would be a fucking RAAAAD R-rated action movie!
