A Clockwork Orange

-Anthony Burgess

I thought it was going to be a pain to read because of the made up language but it turned out to be one of the best books I have read. The last chapter gives closure to the story instead of ending it where the movie ends. this ending is actually more positive.

So far, pretty good a hundred pages in. I think the opening chapter/dialogue has been the most memorable thing so far -- the battle royal is quite vivid from when I read it years ago as a short story for an African-American poetry/drama class in college, existing like it's own separate entity from the main action with Narrator and Norton.

You actually haven't even reached the amazing part of the book, yet. New York is where it's at, especially the last a hundred pages or so.

Only about 100 pages in so far, but I've enjoyed it up to this point. He uses self-depricating humour much in the same way as Mick Foley did in his books.... Plus the stories Jericho tells of his life on the road as a wrestler are very interesting and told in an entertaining way. :)

This is a three parter that takes place 5 years after Endor and is the story where Leia has the twins and i think Mara Jade is first inrtoduced.

If they could somehow make 3 more movies with the orignial cast these 3 books would have or atleast should be them, but that'll never happen heh.

I decided to put "The Great Hunt" on a halt to give "Imajica" priority. The Jordan book is very interesting, and I like the addition of some violence, but it's nothing compared to "Imajica".

Hell, if the book gets better, nothing's going to be anything compared to it. I'm trying to find a way to have sex with it, but to no avail. If anyone has suggestions, do share them.

Haven't posted in here for a while, for some strange reason. Anyways, I've recently read the following books :-

· December 18th - December 19th - Michael Connelly - The Poet.
· December 15th - December 17th - Tess Gerritsen - Harvest.
· December 12th - December 15th - Dean Koontz - Sole Survivor.
· December 6th - December 7th - Armistead Maupin - The Night Listener.
· December 4th - December 6th - Ian Rankin - Strip Jack.
· December xxxx - December 3rd - Jeffery Deaver - The Blue Nowhere.

And this morning, seemingly months after shelling out £17.99 for it, I finally started William Gibsons' latest book :-

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tv7H1ZW1L._SS500_.jpg

So far I'm around 70 pages into it, worringly (at least for me) it took around 30 pages for the book to "bed in" as it were, but the last 40 pages that I've read haven't been all that bad - I'm hoping to have it finished soon(ish) so that I can re-read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for the first time since reading it on publication day.

Yeah. I'm enjoying it thus far. Seems to be a good read. Its a tad slow though which isn't good for me since I have ADD when it comes to books. Like, I can't finish book like ever because I lose interest in them. Plus I don't like taking the time to read them when it could be spent watching movies. I woulda said "I like to read for ENTERTAINMENT. If I wanted to be bored to tears, then I'd read overblown books by pompous assholes that wouldn't know FUN if it came up and bit them in the ass.
"I don't read on my spare time to be taught lessons about pathos, misery, life, religion, or a 'classical' perspective on a theme that can be applied just as easily to modern times. Especially when ANY time in history there can be parallels with the repeated events of the past. It's amazing how some consider it a surprise when books on 'society' written over 100 years ago have eerily similar themes to the issues of the modern world. It's even scarier reading about the Old Testament stories and how human nature was not much different even before good ol' J.C., my Man - Buddy Christ! [thumbs up!] - turned everything around!

"I just like to forget about the real world for a change and dig my nose into some fluff. It's nose candy; for my mind. And I like it that way."

- OR I would have said -

"Not everyone's a cork sniffer."

But your reply works, too.

Again, like I had said, just a thought. I assume someone (possibly born in 1980 ?) who has the time I don't to read could very likely tackle some heavier stuff. Hell, I read Hiaasen, Clancy, etc., but I noticed your past posts are all lighter reads, and figured you'd be able to acomplish something that wouldn't take a night to finish. It was a suggestion to try a step up. No conviction. No insult. Just a thought.

Which is great, I love it. Its completely different from the film which is a great thing. I loved it much more than the film, I'm just mad they used the same title and character to bring in an audience when other than those 2 similarities, they're completely different. I'm onto te short stories now.

I also got the Book of the dead Edited by: John Skipp and Craig Spector. I haven't started it yet though.

I also picked up these other 3.

SPOILER

After the exile of the traitorous Tigerclaw, Fireheart has taken over his role as the deputy of ThunderClan. Most of the cats are still shocked about Tigerclaw's disloyalty and many warriors are badly injured.

The clan leader Bluestar is a shadow of her former self, her mind having been damaged by the shock, so it's Fireheart who must supervise the daily life of the cats. He does his best to lead and to represent the clan, to bring important decisions, to find solutions, to handle ominous omens. He also has to train his disrespectful nephew and apprentice Cloudpaw, and to find and rescue him when people capture him. He manages to find comfort in his friendship with Sandstorm, his new love, and with Cinderpelt, his former apprentice who is now training to become a medicine cat.

The book reaches its climax when a fire sweeps through the forest, destroying ThunderClan's camp and taking the lives of several cats, including medicine cat Yellowfang. After a storm puts out the fire, they start to rebuild their camp, but Tigerclaw's menace and the scarcity of prey in the burned forest continues to worry them.

The cats are exhausted by the redoubled patrols and hard work; even though, the atmosphere is quite peaceful as the hot summer days are dragging by; there is no open war and battles between the clans. Later, Tigerclaw reappears leading a band of rogue cats. The book ends when the cats see Tigerclaw as the new Shadowclan leader.

The movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and this is the first time I'm reading the book. So far I love it. Very creepy and I'm only 3 chapters into it.

I watched the Lecture when he gave it live, and cried when it ended..

I just want to read his book to see if he added anything new to it... and he has.. it's a wonderful, heart breaking, humble read.

Cell - Stephen King

I'm starting it again...gave up two years ago after finding it a little dull...now, I've gotten farther (about halfway) but still find the characters (besides Clay) to be irritating and the attempts at humor quite poor (that Moby/Eminem line...phew). The horror dissipates when (yawn) shared dream sequences come into play. SSDD, to borrow a phrase uttered in another King book, Dreamcatcher. I do hope it gets better, but I doubt it.

Just starting it tonight.

I cried during Pausch's lecture, and his book hit me a lot harder, even though it was mostly the same stuff.. it still made me weep.

One of the GREATEST series of books I've ever read! I'd read them over and over again. In fact I just started listening to the audio version of Dark Tower III: The Drawing of the Three.

TIME Magazine? Serious? It's the nation's most widely-published news weekly. Regardless, jsut keeping everyone honest

And the Dougls Adams books are literally like afternoon reads. RAther light, extremely entertaining, but altogether brief.
