My thoughts- I thought this was a kickass short. Joe Carnahan definatly has talent, and i'll definatly be looking him up for his next movies. Clive Owen and Done Cheadle are pretty sweet in their performances. And i like the little touch of the cameos at the end. My favorite part was how it started out. (spoiler) - you see a road, then bullets start spraying everywhere. Overall a well-done BMW film.

Thoughts?

Okay, is it just me or did I see Robert Patric and Ray Liotta in there as well? If I did, and I think I did that even adds to its overall appeal. I dug it, it was action packed and had a good story. I imagine they could make a decent feature length film featuring Clive Owen's character as long as it wasn't a complete advertisement for BMW, but I understand that's the point. I don't know if I like this one more or less or equal to The Hostage, both were very well done, I cannot wait for the next.

There was also that dude from 24. (The President)
I thought the Cameos were a nice touch. Any of these actors could play a leading role. But i like how they kept them to a small and quick role. I respect the Makers for that. They didn't abuse their roles.

Right now the time is 5:00 and my bro is sleeping. I just watched the film, but I couldnt hear most of the dialogue (I didnt want to wake him up). I agree that it was well filmed, but what did the ending mean? Was the general an enemy of the state?

Secondly, in John Woo's Hostage (I think this was more incredibly filmed), when the dude's wife said "I am the butterfly and you have always been the moth", what do you speculate that all that was about?

I will give it another go a little bit later. For now, I would appreciate it if someone gave their opinion. I am still not sure whether or not they were intentionally left as ambiguous. Again, if it was an obvious solution, I missed it b/c I was listening to it with my volume set to "1".

BTW..

I didnt know who Joe Carnahan was so I looked him up on the IMDb. His only film is "Narc" (i think its coming very soon to theaters). Also in that film are Jason Patric and Ray Liotta. This explains the cameos.

I think that its incredible that BMW films included his name with the list of great names. The dude fit in pretty well. The preliminary reviews for his feature film are pretty good. We will see how that comes out..

well, it depends on your speed i guess. It's 103mb(Enhanced). And with my cable internet it took about 6 minutes to download. But my friends with DSL take about 30 minutes.
I suggest the enhanced player. It's so much better.

I wasn't too excited about all the flashbacks but it's definitely worth a download.

Hey...I downloaded "Ticker" and saw an interesting factoid.

David Fincher (The Game, Panic Room, Fight Club) came up with the concept for this short film.

Hopefully thats enough to get some of you guys to download it. Its really entertaining stuff.

definitely download the enhanced player if you have dsl/cable- it's much better

i thought "ticker" was hot- loved the title being a double entendre- time and what they actually deliver (don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it)

"hostage" was better visually, but i thought the story came together better in "ticker"

as far as the "i am the butterfly and you have always been the moth" comment, i'm thinking that 1.she was an escort/call girl who's services he requested frequenly w/ whom he became infatuated and blew all of his money on (the two years of pay...) or 2. she was a fellow employee w/ whom he became infatuated

I agree, Hostage was a better visual short, much like john woo's films.

*SPOILER*

I especially liked how the kidnapper spun his gun, then it turned into the z4's wheel spinning, that was cool. Overall, I think that Hostage was better than Ticker. Even though Ticker had more camoes than Hostage.

I like Hostage's style, and action and yes that spinning of the the gun transparenting into the rim on the Z4 was saweet. But i didn't like the how i didn't get the end too well the first couple showings of Hostage which made it sort of difficult to like at first. But i like the story and acting in TICKER, plus the opening scene is just so TITE! and then later in the story, when it goes back to Cheadle, when he's in the car telling Clive what it is, and who for, the music was perfect, and it was a neat scene. So i like Ticker better, but they're both still very COOL. Especially for them being free to watch :)

Ticker is a very cool short film, I enjoyed it. This isn’t the best of the BMW films, but the action is handled very well (the beginning kicked ass) and the story is neat (especially when you find out why it is called Ticker). From now on if I see a new movie coming out that reads “A Joe Carnahan Film” I am most defiantly going to check it out.

Out of all the BMW films my favorite so far is Hostage, and I thought the ending of Hostage was very good.

****Spoilers****

The ending showed that the hostage was not one of the good guys, that they had a past together and she was not just an innocent victim. I think that somehow she very cruelly used him and it caused him to flip out. And as he was dying she had to rub it in.

****End of Spoilers****

I can’t wait to see the next BMW film “Beat the Devil” with James Brown, Gary Oldman as the Devil, and directed by Tony Scott.
