God I love Play.com, my AOTC DVD arrived in the post this morning, getting it early again...like I did with Resident Evil. My UK schmoes I'd recommend them.

Anyway after that litle bit of spam, I've watched the deleted scenes...and the movie. The movie stands up well on my 21" screen, unlike Phantom Menace and is good now as it was in July.

The picture is brilliant (as you'd expect) and of course I now get to make screen caps of the beautiful Ms Portman.

The additional scenes are nothing special but the intro's add a little bit of background to justify why they are deleted out...most of the time for continiuity and time.

Any other thoughts on this DVD?

Well, I don't have the DVD yet but I have seen the film projected on a 100" screen by a Sharp XV-Z9000U DLP projector in my home theater store. The transfer on this DVD is the best I've ever seen. The clarity is ridiculous. The detail is also phenomenal. Blacks are solid and deep, which is something that wasn't the case in theaters. The best thing is there's no EE ala TPM. There's no compression artifacts or flaws whatsoever. No nicks, scratches, fingerprints, and no grain at all. Not even a speck. So, this transfer is a grain hater's wet dream.

By the way, www.natalieportman.com has about 6 of the deleted scenes on her website, as well as the blooper reel. The blooper reel is hilarious. Far funnier than the one on TPM DVD. The deleted scenes are interesting, but other than 2, Lucas was right to leave them on the cutting room floor.

WOW!!! This is one spectacular DVD! I had seen EPISODE II at the theatre 9 times, so I was completely psyched for the widescreen DVD. I picked up mine at midnight with the Wal-Mart $9.98 special which is an absolute steal!
I have quite an extension DVD collection and this easily has the best picture. The transition from digital film to the DVD format was perfect. The picture was vibrant and fluid and there was absolutely no grain...not even the slightest! Amazing. The sound was just as impressive...Slave 1's ciesmic charge explosions during the asteroid chase still blow me away.
The extras are even more impessive than EPISODE I's special features. As with THE PHANTOM MENACE DVD, the 1138 trick works here too...and the outtakes are hilarious!!! I think Hayden Christensen is awesome, but I had no idea he was such a klutz! Very funny stuff folks, believe me. The 8 deleted scenes are very nice, but you can understand why they were deleted. I wish they had left in the scene with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu on the Jedi landing platform. Also, I feel that showing Padme's family would have made you understand and appreciate her character a little more. I enjoyed the audio commentary even though I think there are too many cooks here trying to make dinner at the same time. I appreciate all of their hard work, but I really think we only need to hear George Lucas' thoughts, and maybe even Rick McCallum's. Lucas does indeed drop several key hints to the plot of EPISODE III which is really cool. He also explains why Jango Fett was so easily disposed of by Mace Windu, which was a little relief to me personally. The two features documentaries ("From Puppets To Pixels" and "State of the Art: The Pre-visualization of EPISODE II") were very enlightning. The joke Lucas plays on Christopher Lee with a Yoda maquette was very funny, and a little cruel from Lee's standpoint. All of the featurettes, web doumentaries, trailers, tv spots (be sure and check out "Biggest Action Hero"...over the top, yes. Very funny too) and the other goodies make this a must have for any collector. Even if you're not into STAR WARS, I think this is a great buy and a DVD that actually lives up to all the hype.

Has anyone had any problems where you bought the widescreen version but the dvd was actually in full screen format? I've heard that there have been at least 30 complaints regarding this. I still haven't opened my dvd to verfify this.

My box said widescreen, and I had a widescreen DVD. It would suck if this happened to somebody, but I'm sure the store would exchange if for the real version.

I bought the DVD yesterday and had to go to four different stores until I found one that still had it in stock. I ended up buying it at Walmart who had plenty in stock.

One thing is for certain, they need to make sure people know that they are purchasing the widescreen or fullscreen versions. I saw three people picking up the full screen version and I asked them if they really wanted the widescreen and they all said 'thats what I thought I was buying.' I say they should just do away with the fullscreen version and not give people a choice. Widescreen should just be the standard.

This is an incredible DVD. The picture is the best as well is the sound. And the extras are sweet. A must buy for any DVD collector. The CGI in this movie is amazing also, To see how far we've gone since the first triliogy.

I've seen some of the "Puppets to Pixels" documentary, but not all. So far, I'm impressed.

God does this film look fantastic on DVD. So much crisper than in regular projection theatres. Now I can saw I've really SEEN "Episode II."

The featurettes on Story, Love, and Action are interesting enough, but pretty generic overall.

I've also watch all the theatrical trailers (glorious), and some of the web docs (interesting). I'll be back with more thoughts later.

This is THE best audio/video quality I've ever experienced on DVD. The bonus features are great and I love the commentary. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I am very, evry pleased. This could be the best DVD yet, but I still have to see The Extended LOTR.

I got the widescreen version on Monday (UK release date) and I wasn't dissapointed at all. The movie and menus look amazing. I also like the fact that they touched bits of the movie up to make it look better. For example, when Padme is thrown from the ship at near the end, she fell down as if she fell through a hole. The DVD version corrected this and shows her falling backwards. They also included a shot at the end were Padme holds Anakin's false hand during the wedding.

One thing that I didn't like is that some deleated scenes were left out. The bit were Dooku uses 2 lightsabers aginst Yoda wasn't included but is shown in the documentarys. If you keep an eye out you can see them filming the scene a copule of times.

The extras are fantastic. Full length documentarys (1 being an hour of George Lucas basically telling ILM that they need to do shots again), trailers (boy, are there a lot but the Yoda/Spiderman stands out), and images make this DVD a must have. For those of you with DVD roms on your PC, insert each disk and explore. The 1st has a made up web-site that is absoultly huge while the 2nd has a paradoy ad campaign (these can be view throught the easter egg in Dex's Kitchen via the poster on the wall behind him).

In all this is a great DVD although you just know it'll be released again with the classic trilogy. Other than that buy it. There's a long wait to the originals on DVD and this will tide you over until then.

Kick ass DVD. My one and only bitch is the deleted scens should never have been deleted. Puppets to pixels was pretty good. Someone in the forum pointed out that there is a layer that is very evident between Jango landing Slave I on Geonosis and Obi Wan disengaging from the asteroid. (Good catch.) Great film over all. Much better than TPM. Color, sound and clarity are phenomenal. ILM people must love their jobs to a fault.

If your DVD player can zoom in, do it on this movie. Normally the picture would reduce in quality but Star Wars doesn't (much anyway). This movie was filmed digitally so there's no loss of quality.

Also watch with the audio commentary if you haven't already. Jokes and cool stuff are pointed out such as a X-Wing followed by 2 Tie Fighters during the speeder chase, Jango banging his head (this is why some Stormtroopers bang there heads) and Jango's attempt to fly away just as Mace Windu swings his lightsaber. There alot more of course. Even Jay and Silent Bob get a mention from George himself.

Hey guys I love the DVD I have one question. When I play the movie widescreen of coarse on the top of the widescreen line there are names displayed during the movie like lucas ect. Then while the movie was playing I put on the commentary and when a different person talks there name is displayed on the screen. So I turned the commentary off and the names still appeared on the screen is there away to get the names off the screen. Much thanks:)
