Damn, I wanted to see this movie BADLY. But the fucker never went wide! Why not? I know it didn't do too good at the box-office, but can you really expect a limited release flick to BOOM?
And on the other hand, why wasn't it wide in the first place?
Damn.
END OF MANIAC'S RANT

Too bad it didnt. It was a great movie with some fantastic acting. Shoot me if you want but I thought it was more moving then In the Bedroom

It probably didn't go wide because it wasn't very good :/

Interesting sidenote: MM is playing at my theatre right now. Which might not seem too unusual, unless you account for the fact that my theatre is a smalltown one which has only one screen and usually only gets big name flicks which have wider appeal, and even then usually gets them six weeks after release. To have a limited release picture showing here is mind-boggling.

do you want to expand flowrchild. I thought the way it mixed sadness and humor was true and accurate portrait of how poeple handle death or at least me

I just think the movie was a lot less than the sum of its parts. I was DYING to see it because I love all 3 of the cast members. I didn't think it handled the topic of grief very well, because most of the movie I completely forgot that anyone had even died. The director took too casual of an approach with it, so that I really didn't feel anything all that intensely. That is just my opinion.
But as for why the movie didn't go wide, maybe it didn't make enough money in limited release to be expanded to wide release? I am not sure, that is just a guess. If anyone has the figures, feel free to post them.

Here's the official reason why it didn't go wider:
Budget: $21 million Take: $6 million

MOONLIGHT MILE finally came to my one-horse town...and man, it was worth the wait! The third best movie of the year so far (following SIGNS and ABOUT A BOY).
Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Holly Hunter (who has never looked better!) were excellent, but relative newcomer Ellen Pompeo stole the show as Jake's new paramour. Definitely on my list for the Best Supporting Actress of 2002, Pompeo was a pure natural, and sexy as hell!

Of course Canada's capital Ottawa doesn't have Moonlight Mile playing. It figures. Maybe it would have made more if it went wide. But maybe it'll come. Same thing for Igby Goes Down. I have been waiting since Agusut for this sucker to come, and does it? Fuck no.
