I have decided to jump both time and logic to put together my truly dream concert:

Day 1, starting at noon:

Belle & Sebastian opens for Dave Matthews Band. After Dave is through, Radiohead has a go.

Day 2: Velvet Underground then Bob Dylan and then Lou Reed closes the evening with "Perfect Day"

Day 3: The Beatles

Reigh Kaufman
04-18-2003, 08:17 PM
Supergrass open, followed by The Kinks then The Strokes then The Charlatans. The Stone Roses walk on stage, sing everything they have in their catalogue before introducing The Rolling Stones, who open for The Beatles. Everyone walks off stage and dry ice hits the crowd only for Nirvana to walk out and declare the next band, Radiohead, to be the best thing to happen in years, to which Bowie declares he can top all that, and piss off. When he leaves, Queen come on, folllwed by an intermission of Pulp, Gomez, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Ian Brown. He walks off, disgruntled that after him is Beck, who announces that Michael Jackson has decided to be guest spot on the bill with a selection of his early work. Everyone is tired, yet somehow they find the energy to pogo to The Clash, opening for bizarre reasons for Dylan, who cites Crosby Stills Nash & Young (next on the list ) as his favourite peers. It's getting late, so we rush through an eclectic mix of The White Stripes, who do backing for Lynrd Skynrd on 'Free Bird' whilst Joni Mitchell hits a tambourine. Elvis declares he's alive and proudly performs 'Suspicious Minds' to an uproar of approval, then exits stage left to allow more room for The Who to get through 'Baba O'Reilly'. John Coltrane does 'My Favourite Things', then provides sax on Nina Simone's set whilst Blur get their amps set up. Blur duly perform and insist that Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye duet on a version of 'Dock Of the Bay', then fuck off to allow the finale of The Doors and Hendrix, destroying the stage while I neck a bottle of courvisier. Air play us out as we head back to the car park. Any questions?

Björk performs a 3-hour version of "Yoga" ...naked, accompanied by Thom Yorke wearing her infamous swan dress.

alternatively: uhm... what Reigh said. :)

Reigh Kaufman
04-18-2003, 08:37 PM
I forgot to say that The Pixies were in charge of MC'ing this little soiree. They turn up late after a fist-fight with The Happy Mondays, both of whom later make up by appearing on stage telling 'Knock-Knock' jokes and then bursting into an impromptu version of 'crying' by Roy Orbison. Who videotapes the whole lot.

Well, it would be a little like this:

Red Hot Chilli Peppers would open with By The Way, The Zephyr Song and Cant Stop.

They would gracefully leave the stage and the Stereophonics would arrive and sing Mr Writer, Step On My Old Size Nines and Have A Nice Day.

Then Avril Lavigne would step on stage and sing I'm With You, Losing Grip and Complicated then leave as the majority of the audience hate her and begin pelting her with rotten tomatoes.

Wheatus would come on and sing Teenage Dirtbag, A Little Respect and Punk Ass Bitch and retire.

Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor would do a duet of Come What May and EVERYONE would love it or they would be beaten to a bloody pulp by the security guards.

There would then be a mass slaughter of all the shitty pop bands as The Cheeky Girls, Las Ketchup, Blue, Girls Aloud and One True Voice would be brought on stage and given over to the audience who would be free to do ANYTHING they want to do to them.

Then the dude who sang Mad World from Donnie Drako would sing and that would calm everyone down from the previous massacre.

Thats my dream concert, Oh what a world....

Raymond Babbit

Mine would also have to be more than one day-
Matchbox 20 would start it. Then the Barenaked Ladies come out, followed by the White Stripes, The Beatles (doing some of their later stuff, like from Sgt. Pepper's, White Album, ect.), The Who, Led Zeppelin, ELP, Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band, Alice Cooper, Green Day, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and finally, on the last day, REM, doing every song from all of their albums.

04-21-2003, 06:49 AM
finch and green day would combine a couple of their songs. but i would love for them to sing the following songs.

green day: words i might have ate, when i come around, 86, hitchin a ride and blood sex and booze.

finch : stay with me, waiting, the new kid, awake and post script.

then i would want senses fail and brand new to open for them!

BEST CONCERT EVER!

Elliot Smith opens the concert up and plays for about 30 minutes, his best stuff, of course. We then go to The White Stripes with a special guest, someone like Robert Plant. We then go to Pearl Jam, who is then followed up by Radiohead who plays their best stuff from Pablo Honey on down to Hail to the Thief. The Who comes out and rocks the joint, big time. They play for about an hour and a half. The final band to play is Tool... they play for about 2 hours... and are brillant....

For the finale, Smith, Plant, Yorke, Vedder, Keenan and White all sing Bohemian Rhapsody together. They all switch take turns signing lead, while the others singing the background vocals....

Why did you have to merge them, BCV? Listening to a nekkid Björk for three hours makes a cool concert, but it's a really pathetic festival line up. Oh well, I guess I'll get over it... ;)

My Ideal Festival Lineup

This lineup is assuming, rather than just giving the bands I'd want to see, I'm putting this together like a real concert promoter. I might post another later with my purely selfish picks.

Day 1

Early Afternoon- The Indies

The Bravery - 25 minutes
The Zutons - 25 minutes
Modest Mouse - 35 minutes
The Arctic Monkeys- 45 minutes
The Ranconteurs- 60 minutes
Wolfmother- 1 hour forty-five minutes
The Dead Weather - 2 hours

(I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of "indie" music, but that looks like a decent enough lineup to me.)

Main Stage Night Show- Ladies' Night

Garbage - 20 minutes (First Song: I Think I'm Paranoid, Last Song: Only Happy When It Rains)
Nightwish - 25 minutes (First Song: Moondance, Last Song: I Wish I Had An Angel)
Arch Enemy - 25 minutes (First Song: Nemesis, Last Song: We Will Rise)
Lita Ford - 40 minutes (First Song: Cherry Bomb, Last Song: Kiss Me Deadly)
Evanescence - 45 minutes (First Song: Going Under, Last Song: Bring Me To Life)
Paramore - 60 minutes (First Song: Decode, Last Song: Misery Business)

(A good mixture of old and new right here. Lita Ford just put out her new album, so if something like this was ever going to happen I'd want her to be on the bill.)

Day 2

Early Afternoon- Can't Slow Down - Oldies But Goodies

Cheap Trick- 20 minutes (First Song: The Flame, Last Song: Surrender)
RATT - 30 minutes (First Song: Lay It Down, Last Song: Round And Round)
Whitesnake- 35 minutes (First Song: Still Of The Night, Last Song: What Is Love?, Encore: Here I Go Again)
Foreigner- 35- 40 minutes (First Song: Hot Blooded, Last Song: Jukebox Hero)
Poison - 45 minutes (First Song: I Want Action (Tonight), Last Song: Every Rose Has Its Thorns, Encore: Nothin' But A Good Time
Journey - 60 minutes (First Song: Any Way You Want It, Last Song: Don't Stop Believing)
Def Leppard - 90 minutes (First Song: Let's Get Rocked, Last Song: Pour Some Sugar On Me)

(80's bands, glam-rock and hair-metal, its my guilty pleasure but that's a pretty good lineup.)

Main Stage Night Show - Best Of The 80's

Twisted Sister- 25 minutes (First Song: I Wanna Rock, Last Song: We're Not Gonna Take It)
Skid Row - 30 minutes (First Song: Slave To The Grind, Last Song: I Remember You)
The Scorpions - 45 minutes (First Song: Dynamite, Last Song: Rock You Like A Hurricane, Encore: Winds Of Change

KISS- 2 hours (First Song: Modern Day Deliah, Last Song: Rock And Roll All Nite, Encore: Detroit Rock City)

(You could probably take or leave Tesla, but that's a pretty slick show. Dio, Crue, and KISS all on one show is pretty cool.)

Day 3

Early Afternoon- Top 40 Radio

Shinedown - 25 minutes (First Song: Devour, Last Song: .45, Encore: Simple Man (Lynyrd Skynyrd cover))
Hinder- 25 minutes (First Song: Use Me, Last Song: Lips On An Angel)

Nickelback- 60 minutes (First Song: How You Remind Me, Last Song: Burn It To The Ground, Encore: See You At The Show)

(Day 3 of my show is the show the day that pays the bills. People like these bands and hey, we need to pay these guys somehow.)

Main Stage Night Show - ALTeRNatIVe Rock

Alice In Chains - 30 minutes (First Song: We Die Young, Last Song: Sea Of Sorrow)
Soundgarden (w/Chris Cornell) - 35 minutes (First Song: Cochise, Last Song: Blackhole Sun, Encore: Hungerstrike done acoustically, followed by Spoonman with electric guitars)
