Ok, I know there are probably several topics out about this movie, but I just rented it and am watching it later tonight and I was wondering if I could get your opinions or a review or something. I've heard a lot of mixed things.

I was really hyped about this movie before i saw it. So my expectations were very high. I thought it was good, but not great <which is what i thought it was going to be>. Overall, it was creepy and sick, but some of the fx were poor and some of the acting was stiff <no pun intended http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif>. The pace was also a little to slow and just kinda spundered along a bit. Though, Ralsback <sp?> was excellent and the movie was fairly acurrate. The cinematography was good as was the period set <authentic>. Some of the kills and sickest moments were done very well. "Ed Gein" had its good points. 6.5/10

I watched it last night, and I was disappointed. It started out good (with actual interviews with people who were there from the time it happened, then a couple scared from a graveyard after hearing weird noises, and then a little boy finding his masks and decapitated heads), but then it went down hill. It's really a slow paced sort-of drama, which I didn't mind, but it even stunk as a drama. The graphic things he did were kept mostly offscreen, but that didn't bother me, I wasn't in the mood to loose my lunch. I was hoping there would be a few suspenseful or thriling moments, but no. It was not what I was expecting, and I ended up very disappointed.

1.5 out of 4

***SPOILERS***
Wait, there was one scene that was somewhat suspenseful/thrilling, which was actually the best part of the movie. Right after Collette is murdered and Ed takes her from the store, the guy who worked with Collette suspects Ed did it, and while Ed is over at a friend's house for dinner, the guy sneaks into Ed's basement and finds Collette, decapitated and hanging upside down from the celing. Then he goes and finds Ed and threatens to kill him.
***END SPOILERS***

Another thing was you get to see a glimpse of the real Ed Gein at the end (in newsreel footage). Creepy...

This film was alright.
Although the way its put together, you may want to have seen Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, & The Silence of the Lambs first to really appreciate it.
Still, this film was much better than American Psycho.

I thought Ed Gein was one of the better direct to video horror movies out in recent years. After watching, and loving some classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs and other stories based off this man's life, I thought it would be great to learn more about the real Ed Gein's life. I read about this flick in FANGORIA and became interested. When I finally watched it, it lived up to my expectations and then some. It was completely absorbing, the acting was pitch perfect, and pretty damn creepy. Ed Gein is one sick son of a bitch, and this film shows that, but at the same time throws in some scenes that almost make you feel for the guy. Great flick. 8/10

I admire the fact that the violence is implied, but there were moments when I had hoped to see a bit more of the disturbing acts. The pace was sluggish and the story never took off down an intriguing path. It just sticks with one idea for 90 minutes. It could have been so much more.

I just got done watching this movie and I've got say it wasn't what I expected, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I expected an all out gore fest. A movie going for a shock value. What I got instead was a movie that depended more on the characters. Although the dialogue lacked at sometimes and the material outreached the actors every now and then, it was still an interesting and more importantly entertaining flick. The gore did lack and at what I thought were critical points, but I understand that they where trying to make you imagine travesty that took place. Overall, it was an hour and a half well spent. 6.5/10

p.s. Ed Gein was a sick son-of-a-bitch.
