sorry no body responded to you yet. I try to help fellow schmoes all I can.

1.the coins. I just thought the coins had to do with the past residents living there. If I remember right, a couple people said they had all their belongings there. But, I think it was evidence of some robberies that took place over the years by some bad folk .Maybe Simon. Maybe Simon stashed his loot after robbing the residents and kept it there for the future.
2.I thought the "room" was just an unfinished place where "Simon" kept his trophies or momentos.
3. Many believe that yes, Simon was "in him."

Just a little something to add....
spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember earlier on when Gordon is taking the tour of the asylum? He sees the wheelchair/restraining chair lying on its side and he hears Simon's voice say: "Hello Gordon" Right there is when I believe the demonic being enters him and the havoc begins. The room at the end is a place where, as the illustrious Skweemkween already stated, Simon kept pictures and mementos of his carnage. The coins probably didn't have a whole lot of significance....they just provided a reason for the creepy character (I forget his name) to enter the asylum at night. Of course, Gordy was hanging around and performed his own lobotomy. Excellent film, 9/10 in my book. Acting is superb!

Hey Afterburn check out this thread for some more info:

http://www.joblo.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000090.html It has a good debate on your question number 3.

***************SPOILERS********************

As far an question number 1, I believe there was something a little more sinister about the coins and other loot. There is a view of the other side of the wall he is digging on, it appeared to be a cremation oven and a morgue........

SPOILERS:

1. What were the coins about?

Aside from being an allusion to Hank's gambling dreams, they were the inmate items kept by former morgue orderlies of the hospital.

2. What was with the room he was in at the end.?

It was Mary Hobbes' "seclusion"...her room.

3. Was 'Simon' in him?

That's for you to decide. The filmmakers actually intentionally left this part open-ended. It's up to the viewer to decide whether or not Simon is a spirit who possesses people or whether or Gordon and Mary are kindred spirits whose stories somehow meld together as one.
