To tell the truth I have no idea. How could they have possibly traced a suspect all these decades after he's been dead anyways? Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I have watched a program on the History channel b4 and it came to a conclution of who was most likely Jack the Ripper can't remember the name though. Think it was the guy accussed who moved to America. Aparently somebody being hung around the time shouted "i am Jack....." at that point he was dropped. I think thats right anyway i may be wrong. Think i learnt that in the London Dungeon.

There have been so many suspects, and with all the time that's passed, I don't think we'll ever find out.

The two greatest contenders in my book are either Queen Victoria's Royal Surgeon (he had a lot of reasons to kill East End prostitutes, read his biography and see what happened to his eldest son); or Prince Edward, Queen Victoria's grandson. There's a book called "Prince Jack" that expounds this theory.

If you want to read all the theories, there's another book called "The Complete Jack The Ripper" (sorry, can't remember the author's name) that pretty much covers all the bases.

I tend to lean towards the belief that Jack had some kind of royal or masonic connection because so much evidence was shoved under the carpet and facts were smudged during the initial investigation. When a killer's identity is that strictly protected, higher powers are at force. That's also why I believe we'll never discover who he really was.

The program i saw traced it back to walter sickart cuz his paintings were pretty much the same as the photos that were taken of the bodys. Also, In one of the ripper letters, it says "do u like the pretty necklace i gave her" (meaning a cut throat). This painting was xactly the same as the photo and in the painting the lady had a large silver chain around her neck...

Right, after reading this thread I went digging through my boxes of books and found the definitive Ripper book: "The Complete Jack the Ripper" by Donald Rumbelow. I also found "The Complete History of Jack the Ripper" by Philip Sugden, which I shunted away because his theories struck me as sensational (he accuses everyone except Queen Victoria of being Jack). Rumbelow's written another Jack the Ripper volume, but I never got a hold of it.

As you can tell, I'm a bit of a Ripper afficionado. Read "The Complete Jack The Ripper", you'll be well educated in all things concerning this case. Walter Sickart is mentioned, but only in passing...the photos that were taken of the bodies were done after they'd been atopsied (with the exception of Mary Kelly). If Sickart did do paintings of the victims, he must have had a friend in the Met's newly-founded photographic division.

That's right, I read about that at Yahoo.com a few weeks ago. Kind of cool eh? Impressionist, painter.

They pretty much know that it was sickert. They have found hair follicles of his on some ripper letters, and on his paintings. His paintings depict the grizzly scenes, and he also hinted a number of times at him being the killer. Vanity fair has a HUGE article on this, you should check it out. By the way, from hell didnt reveal who actually was jack the ripper..
