After hearing so much about this series on this page I decided to see what all the hype was about...Needless to say I am a new fan of the series and praying that a 5th movie gets made.

Of all of the movies I think that 3 and 4 were the worst. 4 being better than 3 but still...I didn't make any sense! What was the deal with the tuning forks? The ending? To me it just seemed like they were making it up as they went along. Also...the Tall Man kept saying that he had plans for Mike. He said that in the 2nd one and he said that in the 3rd one. So is he ever going to follow through with them or what? Was he training Mike to take over for him? Hence the telepathic powers?

Please... This is bugging me...

"It's Phantasm man!" which was what Reggie Bannister said to me after I asked him about his quag-barrelled shotgun ending up in the hearse in 3 after dropping it in the mortuary in 2 while at a convention. What Phantasm is known for is not answering questions so we just have to wait for PHANTASM'S END to find out what happens.

Those are all valid questions, and I used to get frustrated because I wanted the fucking answers, but I've come to overlook every question mark in this series. I dig on the atmosphere, The Tall Man, the mutant dwarves, Reggie, the occasional hottie, and the bizarre special effects. The muddy scripts only enhance Phantasm's mystique. Nothing seems random to me. I can tell that there's a method to the madness, but the method isn't terribly important. Coscarelli conveys everything from campiness to sheer dread through unique imagery, not dialogue. The only dialogue that seriously kicks my ass is whatever Angus Scrimm utters. Whether he spits out a cool one-liner ("Hello...goodbye!") or offers Mike a glass of lemonade, the guy just captivates me. And I actually enjoyed OblIVion. The lethargic pacing irked me upon the first viewing, but the film has grown on me considerably.

I loooove the Phantasm films, and Im eagerly awaiting the fifth.

As for your questions...what I could get out of Phantasm IV is that The tall man wants mike to take over for him as the Tall Man.
Mikes got something that the tall man wants, what it is hasnt been revealed yet, but then again this are the phantasm flicks, their sole poupouse is to fuck with your head.

You can see that this is what the tall man wants in scenes like the one where Mike finds a change of the tall mans clothes waiting for him in that hearse.

What I really like a lot about Phantasm Iv is that we get a glimpse of that dark future in wich the Tall Man is king. You know that scene where Mike walks in to one of those time portals and then he slips into that future with all the empty streets and the Tall Man walking in slow motion...good scene! I love it! And the the Mikes brother says to him "We cant stay here" and Mike says "Why?" and his brother says..."Theres danger of contamination!" giving us a glimpse of what were suppose to see in the fifth film wich is set in the future in wich The tall man has taken over earth and theres this plague killing all humans....cool stuff...cant wait!

give these flicks a chance they are awesome....

Favorite line in Phantasm IV: "And no you may not take your own life...that is strictly my domain" The tall man..:D
