Hey, I've been wondering about a few movies and I thought maybe some of you could point me in the right direction with your all-knowingness.
First off: Blood and Black Lace..I'm a huge Argento fan and I love what I've seen of Bava, but I can't seem to find this one at any of the rental places, so I've been thinking about buying it...is it worth it?
Next, Lover's Lane..I've heard mixed stuff about this one, but most people say it's a pretty decent movie...worth a watch?
Thirdly, Pin from 1988..I've been told it's a creepy and stylish descent into madness or some jargon like that. Anyone seen this?
And lastly, Woman in Black...everyone seems to have rave reviews for it...what do the Schmoes think? Any help anyone could give me (especially you senior reviewing types) would be greatly appreciated..thanks!

PIN is a realistic take on insanity.
Dr. Linden (terry o'quinn) teaches his kids the facts of life on a lifelike dummy named Pin. The boy takes PIn seriously, and becomes obssessed with it, meanwhile his sister gets a job and boyfriend, which irritates Leon. Their parents are killed in an "accident" (yeah right) when PIN is in the car. From then on, this movie is creepy, and the ending is appropriate.
Go for it, David Hewlett and Cyndy Preston are great, as well as THE STEPFATHER star O'Quinn. The themes are well explored.

RE: PIN is based on a book by Andrew (The Devil's Advocate) Neiderman which I read a long time ago.
Let me start off with the cliche: the book was better than the film.
The film was well casted and had the same tone, but a lot of creepyness was dropped, especially one part when Pin is talking over the intercom.
The book is a great read, especially since it's extraordinarily all told from the guy's point of view so we see Pin through his eyes.
The film is more from the sister's POV.
The big disappointment is the ending which was changed - or Hollywoodized lets say.
In the book...

...which was so much better. I honestly don't understand why they changed it.
Still it's a good film. A good psychological thriller along the same lines as Psycho.
Catch it if ya can.

That's the thing, if I could find it to rent, I would, but I haven't been able to get ahold of it anywhere. However, I just might read the book now that you've mentioned it. Sounds interesting for an armchair psychologist such as myself. The movie I might have to buy, which wouldn't be so bad, I suppose.
How about Blood and Black Lace and Lover's Lane? I know they're from totally different schools, but has anyone seen them?

I'm a big Bava fan and I purchased BLOOD AND BLACK LACE on e-bay a few days ago. Can't wait to see it but chances are I won't 'til two weeks since I'm going to a festival next week. I'd dig to see PIN as well but I can't find it anywhere.

Blood and Black Lace is a pretty good one. Kinda falls apart near the end and probably the most dated out of his giallos(fashion, music, etc.). However, it is the first body count movie, Bava does show some brilliance in it(the 2nd murder is very cool), and I would say it is an essential purchase for a Bava fan. Bay of Blood and The Girl Who Knew Too Much were better.
Lovers Lane is your standard slasher fair. Not really memorable but entertaining enough until the end where it falls apart. Its also seemed very low budgeted.
