I just saw Ghosts of mars and I must agree with the Arrow on this one, one cool movie. I'm kinda amazed at what Mr. Carpenter gets away with in this one, this SHOULD logically have been a dull B-movie about zombie-martians but it isn't. It is an amazingly entertaining B-movie about zombie-martians.
It's got mucho explosions, severed limbs, shootouts, oneliners and an amazingly fitting soundtrack. I must say that I enjoyed this movie very much. Which kinda brings me to my point: why has this movie gotten so much bad criticism? It has a lousy (4,9 I think) rating on imdb and almost every critic seemed to hate it. But I was very surprised when I read Roger Ebert's review, three fu*#ing stars out of four, it seems that even Ebert understood what the movie was about... FUN.
So, what do the schmoes think?

As much as I enjoyed Ghosts of Mars, you have to admit, its a fairly dumb movie. But many critics seem to forget that this is what Carpenter is aiming for with most of his films; the cheap thrill. I don't see GOM as being any different than Vampire$ or Escape from New York.
Now while I don't think GOM deserves any awards, the gore and soundtrack make it a pretty kick-ass flick.

Yes, it is a very dumb and silly movie, but that seems to be the vibe that Carpenter went for so...

Duplicate topic. Oh, well. I thoguht this movie was worth my $15, so I bought it on DVD. It had great gore and I really liked Ice Cube in this one. I thought they made a huge mistake casting Pam Greir,

good thing they killed her off quick. I like JC's movies, I also own Vampires. As long as he has a good story, good effects, and a good cast then I'll watch it and enjoy it.

I enjoyed this one but not as much as I usually enjoy Carpenters films, it lacked detail, and to me it felt like they didnt take the time to make it all that it could be. But the audio commetary on the dvd is hilarious, still the movie is not
Carpenters best, and I didnt enjoy it as much as Vampires for example. Speaking of wich I think theres a sequel coming up for Vampires...hope its as good as the first!

This movie was sweet. Very entertaining movie. Plus Jason Statham (Jericho) was the man in the movie, I mean being attacked by hundreds of hostile martian zombie things and all he can think about is gettin it on with Natasha Henstridge.

just watched the dvd.not bad,not bad at all.
ofcourse its hard for me not to like a carpenter flick;the man's a god in my book.but, the thing that really grabbed my attention was the music.
this movie has one of the best scores ive heard in a long time.i was amazed to find out that anthrax and vai were some of the musicians.but who is this "buckethead" guy?,he's good, but ive never heard or seen him before.
anyway,this is a great horror/scifi flick.i agree,there could/should have been more gore,but it still rocked.
