View Full Version : Texas Chainsaw Masscre 4 - Is it Really That Bad?

Hey everyone
Alright, I've seen the first three TCM movies, and I'm kind of indifferent toward the series. The first is fantastic, the second is just wierd, and the third is just 'good.'
However, I've been avoiding TCM: The Next Generation (or Return of TCM, depending on where you live) because of the negativity surrounding the film in the horror community.
Is it really that bad? Is it worth at least one viewing? Any opinions you guys have on the subject are appreciated.

Is it really that bad? - Yes
Is it worth at least one viewing? - Sure.
I am too lazy/tired to type any sort of review. It's just a lousy film altogether. Some people like it though, so why not check it out and see for yourself.

I liked it but then again, I'm pretty sure I have the worst opinion ever.

Yeah, it really is that bad, although you should probably see it just so you can add another movie to your "Worst films of all time" list.

Absolutely abyssmal. Terrible performances, directing, editing, writing...shall I go on?

Horrible. Trash. Pathetic. It's weird though: After you watch it a bunch of times, it does somehow seem to grow on you slightly and get a bit better. Anyone else notice that?

It didn't grow on me but I do have the urge to watch it now and again. It's a horrible flick that draws you in, mostly because it's a Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel. But, it's awful, so watch with caution.

iT SUCKS BIG TIME!
But...
I like it for the sheer fact that it does have its charms, like Vilmer's leg and Darla's beating the woman with a stick.
Has to be seen to be believed.

It's definitely worth a rental. Requiem, I know what you mean. Even though it defines mediocrity, I do have the urge to watch it again. It's inexplicable. I just might break down and buy it one of these days.

hehe, yeah man.... This comes on A LOT it seems like on HBO and Cinemax and each time, even though it's a horrible movie and by FAR the worst in the TCM series, you find yourself having to watch it. :) It's weird...

It's like a particularly nasty car crash - you know that you don't really want to look, but you also know that you're going to anyway!
See it once, and get it over with! Then you can add it to your list of the crappiest films ever :)

You sure in hell dont watch it to see Leatherface because he looks like Rosanne Barr in this one.Velmer is the best thing in the movie and it focuses on him more than Leatherface.I do agree with it sucking but it does grow on you and I now have it on DVD for some strange reason.

AWFUL!!!!! The only good thing about it was McConaughey's acting, and a certain scene where a woman is gently hitting her victim. That was a funny scene, but the movie IS abysmal...

I really liked this movie! Much more interesting than the dull by-the-numbers Part 3.
The family in this one is just nuts! I liked how the movie seemed to have a subtext about abusive relationships (heroine was abused by stepdad, Vilmer and his girlfriend are like a drunk couple from 'COPS').
Also there is some very good 'black humor' moments in this movie.
Yes some of the acting is terrible, and yes the ending totally makes no sense. But I still like it.
And as for the new Leatherface, I would have preferred a scary Leatherface, but I still say that cross-dressing Leatherface is better than "80`s rocker" Leatherface from Part 3!
Think of it as the "Bride Of Chucky" of the series.

Elgyn,
I agree.
TCM 4 needs love, like a syphillitic hooker on drugs. I mean that in the best possible way.
Vilmer and Darla on COPS!
VILMER: Officer, you are being non-conductive to my business (whoops it up frat boy style). Darla, you bitch!Leave that remote alone! (LEG SPASMS)
DARLA: Aw honey. Relax, just havin' a little fun that the college boys can't give.
COPS ARE HIT IN SHINS BY VILMERS LEG, AND DARLA PULLS VILMERS HAIR IN A MASOCHISTIC WAY. HOW ROMANTIC!

Cons: Everything Else....EVERYTHING.

LOL
mechanical leg.
I forgot about that part.
Oh wait, I forgot about this movie back in 1998, or whenever it was I saw it.
Reading these posts reminds me of what a horrible time I had watching it. Oh, that must be why it's a HORROR FLICK. Because it was so HORROR-ible!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!

At first, it's just more of the same, then it gets a bit wierd, with the X-Files-style conspiracy subplot, which is never adequately explained. Leatherface has never been worse; he's not the least bit scary--in fact he comes across as some sort of cross-dressing wimp (in one scene, we see him primp up; reminded me of Silence of the Lambs, though thankfully he doesn't hide his dick ) The mechanical leg was kinda neat though.
Overall, it's just another mediocre sequel, as that other guy said. I almost never even think about it at this point. It does have the novelty of starring Renée Zellweger. I admit she does a decent job under the circumstances, but TCM 4 is probably nowhere to be found on her resume.

AghhHHH, flashback to TCM 4.
Relax Lady S.
Mathew McC. comes across as a drunk frat boy, and I bet he regrets this blunder. He shouldn't. Viggo Mortenson was in TCM 3.
