Songs that I shall review...
John Mayer's "Neon"-I'm fond of John Mayer's smooth, melodic, and textured voice. He's one of the few artists in rotation on MTV that I can endure. His singles have been decent so far, but this song is great! The bluesy undercurrents click for me; it reminds me of something that I would hear on The Weather Channel. By the way, The Weather Channel should release a soundtrack of sorts if they haven't already. Where was I? Ah, yes. Cool tune!
Dropkick Murphys' "Irish Drinking Song"-Amusing, if not annoying. I wasn't able to detect much talent here, but that doesn't really matter. This particular song doesn't require too much talent. It's passable for what it is. Wish I could say more, but there's not much to say other than, "Eh."
Fenix TX's "Threesome"-I took a liking to this one. Solid drumming, solid harmonies, solid song. This is indistinguishable from a slew of other pop/punk hybrids, but that doesn't mean that it can't be enjoyable. Fenix is better than Blink or Sum, which probably explains why they aren't as popular.
A nice batch of tunes, MOVIE-Maniac. "Neon" will definitely garner a few more listens.

Thanks for the good reviews guys.
Yeah, John Mayer is one of the most talented artists around right now. Glad you guys enjoy that.
Dropkick Murphys was thrown in there just for fun. I love the verse about the whore. That's funny.
And I wanted to "advertise" a little for Fenix TX. One of, if not the, best punk bands out there, but not many people know about them. So I threw this out there. There best song.

John Mayer-"Neon"
I've been a huge John Mayer fan for while now. His favorite songs of mine are "Love Soon" and "Comfortable". "Neon" was the song that introduced me to him though. It has solid guitar, vocals, drums, bass, everything in my opinion. The thing that I like about it the most though is the lyrics, he is a great lyricist IMO. I love the bass in "Neon", it gives it a great jazzy feel. I give it a 9/10.
Dropkick Murphys-"Irish Drinking Song"
I'm not a huge ska/punk fan, I'll say that right off. Some of it can begin to get very annoying to me. This song wasn't that great to me. I didn't think it was really very funny and that was it's main goal I think maybe. I give it a 5/10.
Fenix, TX-"Threesome"
Again, I'll say I'm not a big fan of this particular genre. There are only a few pop-punk bands that I can stand. This was the first time that I have heard Fenix, Tx and I would say they are better than any other pop-punk band I've heard. I liked the drums in the song though, they were very solid. From what I've heard in this song they should be bigger than they are though, they are obviously more talented than they other bands like themselves out there. Overll I would give this song a 7/10.
So in conclusion, I loved the fact that you chose John Mayer and I can stand the other songs but wouldn't pick them myself.

Thanks, dude. Maybe I can revive this corpse. The "songs of the week" are dying a slow, painful death. The interest has been waning increasingly, so I'll probably get no more than 4-5 replies. I'll make the best of it, though. I promise not to disappoint!

I have 'Neon' on my winamp list..it's good, but I don't like John Mayer too much. Wouldn't mind hearing more of his stuff.
I haven't heard the Fenix Tx song in a while, but they're one of my favorite bands, so I'll be downloading it soon.

I've been up shit-creek with Kazaa lately...alas, I'm up and running again so I thought I'd get back on track with these "song of the week" threads...Sooooo, better late than never I hope!
John Mayer - Neon
A nice little tune...a definite 80's feel there, but not in an entirely negative way. Do I detect a wee bit of a "Jose Feliciano" vibe? EASY-listening, but a bit of depth. He's got a smooooth voice. I quite like it actually...but it's not something I'd go out of my way to listen to...very pleasant all the same! It's a wee bit meandering, I was kind of anticipating a climax so to speak...it just missed the mark slightly for me personally.
Dropkick Murphys - Irish Drinking Song
An entertaining ditty..very 2-dimensional but extremely passable when you've had a few jars. It works on the "Madness" level, and it's a bit of harmless fun. It raised a smile anyway...which is always a bonus in my book!
Fenix, TX- Threesome
Probably my favourite of the bunch...purely because it sounded a bit different from all the pop/punk bullshit floating about at the minute. The vocal is strong enough...and it does hook you in. It didn't overstay it's welcome and I quite liked the rather catchy "If you wanna dance" malarkey!
Anyway...a nice selection once again, and completely unique! I'm sorry about my lack of response lately. It's nothing personal love!
Cheers me dear!

Sorry about the delay....
I have been working with a bunch of rough kids at the crisis center I work at and its been craziness lately with school thrown into the mix and friends getting married. Ack enough excuses on to the reviews.
Irish drinking song: i used to dance around to this song about twice a month when a local ska band to San Diego used to play it every time i would go dance around to in high School. It brought back good memories of dancing under black lights. For my drunken Irish ranting though I still prefer the Pogues. I finally checked these guys out though through this thread and I can see why alot of people like them :)
Threesome; Quick, emotional and to the point. I liked it. The guys voice stands out over the crashing guitar waves. Decent stuff!
Neon: Hmm this song sounds alot like coffeeshop music. Its allright but it just doesnt click with me. The guitar plucking is soothing but the guys voice kind of made me cringe. The guitar was catchy though.
Again sorry about the delay i had to redownload Kazaa and ended up deleting my 2000+ song history list. Ack Well thanks for contributing to the song of the week thread!

Yeah, I feel a bit guilt about not participating. I'm not sure why I haven't, actually. But now that I've stepped into the SOTW arena with your selections, Count, I'm hooked. I'll try to contribute as much as possible in the future.
P.S. Odd coincidence, two of the major SOTW contributors, Psychocandy and Bowiee, have been experiencing computer problems as of late. That's probably one of the more substantial reasons for declining responses.
