I've only seen the first two Evil Dead movies, which I thoroughly enjoy and have seen multiple times, but I haven't gotten around to seeing the third yet. I see it really cheap at this flea market I visit (which has tons of good horror movies) and I was wondering if this is worth the price to buy (about 6 bucks on VHS or lower). Would any of you recommend it? Is it better than the first two? Any info would be appreciated, thanx.

i highly enjoy it(although not my personal favorite of the series).

it plays more for laughs, even more than ed2, and its not scary at all. its basically more 3 stooges than it is horror with alot of ash abuse lol. there isnt the gore of the first 2 either. but i highly recommend it, just go in looking for goofy fun and not a serious horror movie and i think you'll enjoy it fine.

Yeah I agree with him. Army of Darkness was pretty good and it was funny. Bruce Cambell did a good job as acting the Ash character.

Most genre fans dig it, so the odds are in your favor. However, I found little to dig. Slapstick and horror DO NOT mix. Ash's hijinks didn't bring a smile to my face; it brought a gun to my temple. I might have chuckled once or twice, but considering that this is predominantly a comedy, those statistics aren't impressive. The special effects are awful. That could be due to the low budget, but wherever the blame lies, it takes away from the final product. But like I said, I’m in the minority. You'll more than likely enjoy Army of Darkness, so give it a shot.

Evil Dead (9.5/10)
Evil Dead 2 (8/10)

Army of Darkness (9/10): It's more of comedy than a horror movie. The gore and violence are REALLY turned down in this movie compaired to it's predessors, but the high humor is still there. Ash is the King of one-liners in this one. My favorite being "Hey, she-bitch, let's go".

Don't expect it to be like the rest. The gore isn't much and it's like a comedy. It's still a great movie. Bruce Campbell and his chainsaw alone make it great. I recomend!

Here's the scoop;

Army of Darkness is fantastic in it's original uncut form.

Army of Darkness Director's Cut is equal to the rest of the trilogy, it's creepy, hilarious, gory (no where near as gory as the first 2) and fun the whole way through. Also, the effects are truly unique and strange, they gave me the creeps more than once. Some of the cheese is taken away and it feels more like an entry in the Evil Dead series. Get the DIRECTOR'S CUT!!!!!!

Army of Darkness Theatrical Version isn't without it'S merrits but doesn't hold a candle to the director's cut. This is a comedy plain and simple. It's an awesome comedy but a comedy none the less.

Army of Darkness Director's Cut- 10/10

Army of Darkness Theatrical Cut- 8/10

Personally, I love the original Evil Dead, and really don't like Evil Dead 2 at all.

Not knowing anything about the series I watched the first one, and then the second one hoping for a continuation of the themes from the first...anyways I was very disappointed by the comedy in that film. I felt jipped on a horrific story that could have been.

HOWEVER, I love Army of Darkness. It is more of a comedy like said before, but it is a cool, wierd ass flick and is def. worth checking out.

Evil Dead 5/5

Evil Dead 2 3/5

Army of Darkness 5/5

I actually went to see this with my father and older sister when it came out and I loved it. Now, almost ten years later my opinion has changed. While not being a great Horror movie, it still is a lot of fun. I ejoyed the last half quite a bit.

Just got it on DVD, even though I've seen it before I still find it extreamly funny. I'm a bit disappointed that this had very little gore unlike the other two which had bucket loads. But it did make me laugh till I cried so I'll let it off :)

My DVD has the Directors Cut on Disc 2 which I find myself watching more than the original edit version on Disc 1. The extended Little Ash's fight in the windmill is probably the funniest thing about the whole film.

What an appropriate subject for my 600th post.

Army of Darkness rules. It's hilarious, but don't expect it to be anything like the first two. Really, it should be rated PG-13, but I guess there was too much fake skeleton carnage for the MPAA. Anyhoo, definitely worth the rent/purchase. A-

P.S. I actually like the theatrical cut better, the director's cut is missing two of the best lines, and the end battle sequence is fifteen minutes longer, and it gets tiresome. It's ending is also lacking.

Without credits, the theatrical cut runs 75 minutes. It's pretty much perfect at that length.

funny as hell , but absolutely nothing like the first two. I've only seen the director's cut, which did get a bit lenghty, and in places had horrible picture quality (especially during the mini-ash scene). other than that, though, it was just nonstop laughter. Bruce Campbell was brilliant.

Army of Darkness is purely for fun. Its funny al the way through. Bruce Cambell does a great job as Ash again. The final fight is also a nice bit of action and carrys the humourous theme still. Overall its one of my favourite films and i still don't own it :(
