View Full Version : Did Anyone Else Like Jason Better Before He Became A Zombie?

Hey everyone
Just checking.. who else like the vaguely human Jason from FT13 parts 1-4 better than the zombie Jason of 6-10?
To me, Jason was just freakier when he was nothing more than a crazed mongoloid out in the woods... not the walking undead, but a human monster out there. He still ran after his victims, and he had that sick shack out in the woods (part 2). As much as I love Kane Hodder in the role, his 'zombie' interpretation isn't really fearsome.
There was just more tension when Jason was human... you could still hurt the guy, and he would still bleed. He wasn't 'The Terminator' or anything.
What do you guys think?

I love him both ways. He's kinda cooler when he's a zombie but he's still enjoyable in 2-4. Even though looks kinda stupid when he runs.

Each had their pros and cons really. Id say that itd be almost impossible for me to pick but then again the first 4 were the best probably...then again...thats due to lack of originality...so I really cant answer that.

Well both ways are pretty cool. I liked the way he looked in Part 7(zombie) but the way he acts in 2,3,4 are pretty scary. But good ole Jason isnt looking too great in Freddy Vs Jason from what Ive seen...he looks too much like Part 6, which wasnt good but wasnt the worst look(Part 2/Jason X).

Just watched part 7 this weekend. He looks TOO cool in that one. But I like him in all of them (save for part 5).

I prefer the zombified Jason. He's never been menacing to me, so the humanized Jason just strikes me as a bland villain. I'd rather leave the more natural mannerisms up to Michael. Jason should be a detached killing machine!

zombie. i just dont really care for the human jason movies. 2,3 arent really that good. but i did like 4. i almost pissed myself from laughing at how bad it was. "Teddy bear wants a kiss" haha classic. also i am entertained mostly by the 2nd half but eh.

I like him the best when he is a zombie. he looks scarier. I think the best jason was wither part 7 or 8. part 9 sucked and jason x, can you really count that as a real f13th film?

Looks like I'm alone in the responses to this thread, but I enjoy the "human" Jason far more than the zombie version. The fact he could be hurt added so much more tension to the movies. Now, he's just an unstoppable machine.
And don't even get me started on the cyber-Jason - UGH.

Yes , its funny to watch part 2 , he actually hides and cowars in that one doesn't he? And Uber Jason does suck , sure hes unstoppable , but wheres the suspence in that. Zombie Jason kicks hell ass , in part 6 he rips that guys arm off and it looks like it was an accident because he didn't know his own strength.
I think his human form is more evil.. I mean i only recently saw part 3, and had before hand just seen him as a zombie hero almost, but part 3 made him a real villain, i mean hes a fuckin sick rapist murderer

I prefer him more like a human than a sci fi zombie.

ahhh a very interesting topic...and note that I think this is the only major franchise that had a different icon killer in 2 different films.
To me parts 1-5 are scrarier than the latter but are rather boring as well. They are pretty much the same send up. The typical slasher fare. yet there is something about them that makes me have to watch them. Allow me to indulge...
Part 1...well I dont really like this one, never really did, the last 5 minutes is great but call me a fan boy, the mother revenge factor ia fine but keeping with the Jason lore part 1 doesnt do much for me. that said there are some decent kills and hey, its the one that started the whole thing.
Part 2...things get cooking here. for some strange reason im a huge steve minor fan. his movies are always typical, maybe the scrpits have something to do with that, but he does have his own style that you can see in all his flicks...this movie is really just a retread of the first but with Jason holding the knife. I personaly belive that jason with the sack over his head is one of the scariest villians is horroh history.
Part 3...well having to take into account that it was done in 3-D, the movie plays alright in normal view...again we get steve minor at the helm, we get jason and his mask, and we get the standard slasher fare.
Part 4...without a doubt the bloodiest end to any Friday flick. that moment alone is worth a good rating. This one drags like the rest but savani really helps.
Part 5...the worst acting in the series, no real Jason...money hungry assholes!!!!!! but again I can enjoy it for what it s...trash...
Part 6...Zombie Jason begins...in a carbon copy of tommy's dream at the start of 5, we get the start of 6...this one is many poeple's fave. I wish the blood was able to flow more but this is a very solid movie, maybe the best of the series overall in terms of "real" movie.
Part 7...without a doubt the coolest looking Jason. its pretty standard and boring untill the FANTASTIC last 20 minues. some say the end was a joke...well it was, but the battle between J and Tina was enough for em. when J's mask snaps off, damn, he is fucked up looking!!!
Part 8...hmmm...well, this one sucked. they tried, they failed...if anything it is a good sneak too see what the "new" jason will look like from the diner scene.
Part 9...this was total trash, a VERY FREAKING BAD IDEA, and well thats all im going to say about that.
Part X...again, not the best idea but they pulled it off...unlike a few other Friday the 13th's, the last 20 minutes was lame compared to rest... a real 180 from the other 9.
all in all i would like to have known what this series could have been without interference from the MPAA. we shall never know and paramount WONT help the cause. regardless of the mundane stalk and kill that the series has brought, if the payoff is bloody as hell its worth the wait...without that well...you get some pretty lame moments...
so I quess i cant say wich Jason i prefer..both are good both are bad and both were done in two different era's...the "retarted" jason was the 80's while the zombie man was a product of the 90's...TO A DEGREE...so I quess we should be happy that good old J has liked through a few decades and hopefully a few more to come...

Haddonfield, I do agree with you on your point about the first 5 movies... up until the final 45 minutes or so, they are boring as hell. We're forced to wade through over an hour of pointless summer camp shenanigans, then finally murders start to happen.
And yeah, though I like the human Jason better, there's no doubt that Jason looked his best in F13 Part 7.
