View Full Version : The speed and motion of zombies

Okay, here's the thing about zombie movies. They move really slow, so anyone could outrun them, like messed up mummies. On the other hand the recent mummy films had mummies moving about as fast a cars at 30 to 60 miles per hour. That's pretty fast! So the thing is, at times, zombies move fairly fast, like when an arm comes through the window or door, or when they are closing in for a kill, but at other times, they barely move, so they are easy to get away from. You just never know how fast they are going to move at you, so perhaps that is why they are scary. Has anyone else noticed this. You just can't predict have fast they can move.

lol yeah. its like there are rules for zombies, but nothing set in stone. just like some talk and some i personally like the slow ones that dont, they just seem scarier.

i think they move fast when attacking cause even though they have no real thoughts, thier instinct tells them to attack fast or thier dinner's gonna run off.

maybe they lure you into thinking that they are gonna move slow as hell...then when you least expect it..jog and lunge at you. Maybe another reason people dont do the obvious thing(which is to run around them) they dont know where they are. They could be hiding behind a truck or sumthin. And there is so many of them.

IMO opinion zombies have got to move slow. if u think about it these little fuckers are dead. as savini says in the night of the living dead remake commentry, they have 4gotten how 2 move properly. its like learning to walk all over again 4 them. i hate 2 see a zombie just walkin about normal like. i like em jerky and stumpling about.

It seems that as long as the camera is on the zombies then they are only able to move slow and stumble alon. however as soon as the camera is off them and we can't see them they are able to move vast distances to catch up with their targets.

If a dead ass Zombie can RUN, then he belongs in a fuckin' Michael Jackson VIDEO... NOT trying to scare me!

Actually most of them were rather slow, except for the on that was swimming and fighting with the shark. That take a little more dexterity than just shambling around.

i think the zombies can move as fast as they want as long as the act as if at least one of their legs dont work. i think it would be better if they had a semi-fast limp. it would make them alittle less ridiculous. example: in the remkae of George A. Romeros night of the living dead by Tom Savini. Barbara says "theyre so slow we could just walk right pass them". Which is eventually what she does and has no problem doing so which kind of made it silly seeing as a handfull of people already died at the farmhouse. oh well.

I prefer the slow zombies over the super tough fast walking zombies. Also, I think zombies move faster when going for the kill because its instinctive to them. Like they get more excited because they are getting so close. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

The zombies is "Return of the Living Dead" were fairly speedy ... at least as quick as a living human. And the zombies in "Gates of Hell / City of the Living Dead" could frickin' teleport! How's that for fucking scary!

I like both. Speedy zombies can kill you fast while slow zombie give you that intemidating feeling.

ZOmbies should be slow these guys are literally braindead. Theier only instict is to kill. Zombies are scarier when they are slow as you know nomatter how fast you run they will eventually catch you.

While the zombies in ROTLD worked like a charm, I think that Fulci's zombies are the scariest. The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead and Zombie have IMO the scariest zombies ever seen.

no zombie will be able to move that fast if u apply bullets to the knee area :)

therefore, if this approach was used, followed by a swift coup de grace to the head....

think of the beautiful beautiful fun :)

as a ps to my previous post.

this approach is not limited to guns. for the more physical man an axe or sword would work.

or a chainsaw for the messy worker :)

If I was dealing with zombies, I'd want them to be slow so I could kill them easily. I enjoyed Romero's zombies for a while before I saw films like Re-Animator and ROTLD. It was cool to see more original zombies. And these guys were brought back by man-made re-agents.

Herbert West had his re-agent in serum form that had zombies go berserk once they were brought back. It was cool how some of them were strong like the Schwarzenegger stunt double cadaver. That film also gave us one of most intelligent zombies the screen has ever had: Dr. Carl Hill, who's able to control minds even after death.

The 245-Trioxin gas must've been pretty strong if it made the zombies run and talk in ROTLD.

The motion of the zombie depends on the movie. In one movie they're slow, in another one they're fast, so I don't think their motion is the thing making them scary.

My zombie dodging skills have been built up by hours and hours of Resident Evil playing.

On that note I'd like to offer a piece of advice to anyone finding themselves in a Lucio Fulci horror movie: Once you discover that a head shot will destroy a zombie, stop shooting the damn things in the chest first!

i was always a fan out of letting them get close and blowing their heads off.

of course, its all a matter of personal preference...

Eh... it depends on whether or not they are the type of zombies who will just respawn later, or they go down and never come back...

Having the shotgun to do one hit decapitations is also vital.

Damn straight. When Res Evil was remade for the Game Cube, I started playing with a bunch of friends. We ended up going for beers and everyone stayed all night until I finished it. It was a lot of fun. The grenade launcher is great too. After I beat it with both characters I tried the cheat to get unlimited grenades... hoo-rah was that a hell of time. The zombies didn't stand a chance.

I like both kinds of zombies. I like slow ones because they seem more scarier and freaky but I also like fast ones because they can catch ya alot faster. The only thing I don't like zombies doing is talking. Yeah in return of the living dead they had the classic line Send more paramedics but talking zombies really aren't scary. To me I guess it depends on how long a zombie has been dead. For instance newly created ones seem to be alittle faster then ones dead for years. Oh while were speaking about zombies this is one thing I'd like to get off my chest. How come in zombie movies they always and I mean always barricade theirselves in? I mean their just gonna get through anyway.
