View Full Version : Question concerning vampiric half-breeds:
Okay, here's something I've been thinking over:
In the movie Blade (which was gay and sucked), the character was half human, half vampire. He could walk in sunlight, and he was mortal. Ok, now let's look at this:
In the Japanese animes Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (which I liked very much), the main character named D is a dunpeal which basically the same thing as a half-human, half-vampire. His mother was human and his father was a vampire (and not just any ordinary vampire since his father was Dracula the Vampire King). He could walk in churches, stand in the sunlight, look at a cross, and a whole lot of other things that vampires couldn't do.
Now you're wondering just what the hell the point is behind this. Remember how I said Blade is mortal. D however is immortal.
That is the thing that I'm trying to figure out. Which do you think is true? Do you think half-breeds are mortal or immortal?
I for one would think that a half-breed would still be immortal b/c the vampiric half would always be dominant no matter whether it was the mother or the father that was the vampire. And I'm not saying that just b/c I hated the movie Blade. Oh yeah I also forgot to mention that D can only stay out in sunlight for so long at a time since he is half-vampire.

SPOILERS FOR BLADE!!
Well Blade was a different type of half vampire. You see both his mom & father were human, but when his mom was going into labor she was bitten by Frost ( I think). This would make him a different type of half breed than D meaning that there could be different types of half breeds.
Any way it's impossible to compare these two since the vampires in each film were different.
By the way I personally think Blade 1, 2 are two of the best action & horror films out there.

As I understand the story, Blade's mum was attacked by a vampire when she was pregnant (not going into labour), and the vampire's supernatural abilities were passed on to her unborn child. But I see your point. And I love "Blade" mostly because I'm a big Stephen Norrington fan, an unsung genre director who should get more work, IMHO.
Technically, according to the traditional definition of a vampire they can't breed. They're dead (well, undead). They can have sex, but seeing as they're dead I assume their sperm would be as well. Same thing with a female vampire: she could shag a living guy til the cows came home and not get pregnant. "Vampire Hunter D" is a good story, but I don't see how you could make a half-human, half-vampire. It just wouldn't happen. But, in a fictional sense, I think if it ever did happen a half-breed would be mortal (born of a human mother and all that).

FIRST OFF, HELLO MAJOR SPOLIERS IN THIS POST!!!!!!!
Guys if you are giving key points to movies away please post a spolier warning.
And now to the topic at hand. I don't think there is one set rule for vampires, half vampires etc....
In some movies/stories silver works, stakes, work, in others they do not
***************** MAJOR SPOLIERS ************************************************** **
In the book Vampire$, they used blessed silver bullets to weaken the vampires, a stake through the heart did not kill them instantly. Also religious items and churches had an effect on them and the vampires were regared as very "supernatural" creatures.
In the movie vampires, there is no mention of silver bullets, religious items have no effect and the supernaturalness (is that a word) of the vampires is very down played.
Vampires in Brian Lumleys "universe" can be created via, sex (His Vamphyri love sex), a bite, or an egg (yes an egg long drawn out story but very cool)
The Dhampir in Nocturne (video game) was I believe created as human/vampire offspring. Bloodrayne (another video game Dhampir) was created when her mother was raped by a vampire.
***************** MORE SPOILERS *********************
Lastly Vampire D is not completely immmortal, as far a aging he may be but he can be killed by weapons, or as he almost died in Bloodlust a little too much sun.....

Thanks for clarifying on how Blade became half breed, I wasn't really sure.
Also about how vampires can't breed, this is changed a lot now adays. Even in Blade it was changed since there was a big gap between pure bloods & half bloods. It's really hard to compare vampire movies since each one has a different take on it.
hmm.. I guess you can't really compare the 2 at all. oh well.
Anyway, oh yeah you said D isn't completely immortal b/c
weapons can kill him and stuff. However, he still has
regenerative abilities (watch the original V.H.D. to see). And he also
has that annoying talking parasite in his left hand to always help him out like pulling stakes out of the heart and such. (again watch original V.H.D. for more info on that.)
