I read the plot to this movie and was VERY excited going into viewing it. Never the less, the movie SUCKED. My god, can a movie get any more cheesey? Don't mean to diss on it too bad, but damn, they must've had a REAL low budget, because the dead bodies in the movie do not even look real!

Are we talking about Slashers from Fangoria? That movie was cool and I enjoyed it, so what if it was low budget it was still cool, the only thing annoying was that chick who kept gasping really loud.:p

How could you like $la$her$ and not Scream? Anyways what threw me off was the dumbies and shitty special effects.

First of all they are both different movies so there really cannot be any legit comparison but speaking of a comparison I do like Running Man better.:p
Scream is a trendy rip off, rehash piece of shit! Sure it made money big deal, so did that piece of crap 8 mile. It hurt horror and was worse than trebbles meaning it spawned alot of similar trendy shit that people laugh at instead of take seriously. Slashers was just low budget and Fun and considering the shit Ive seen it was not that bad! Scream was making fun of the horror genre as a whole, Slashers was more of a reality game show parody than a horror movie.
Scream had a snotty attitude and Slashers was just low brow fun!:p

Yes , they are two toatally different movies. Scream had better acting and better special effects. Scream did not poke fun of the horror genre , it just pointed out many things the fans had known for years. Why am I always getting heat from you on the boards? Becaused I enjoyed the first Scream film?

Scream doesn't poke fun at horror films; it pays homage to them. Most of the characters are obviously fans of the genre. They dissect the clichés utilized in slashers just as we do. And I don't see how it's a trendy affair. Teen-oriented horror was lifeless in 1996. Sure, it ignited a loathsome trend, but trashing Scream because of its paper-thin clones just isn't reasonable. Don't get me wrong, it does have its faults, and it wasn't the first flick to take advantage of self-referential humor, but I don't think that it deserves to be mercilessly reproached.

First of all Nightmare, I do not go out of my way to give you personally heat about Scream, I do have a life and might I remind you that it was you who asked me the question in the first place.
If you or the Count or anyone else wants to like this movie go right ahead because it is your right, but It is also my right to not like it and give my opinion. If you want to hear it great, if you do not fine. I hate Scream, I think it's crap and I will always think it is crap and I will never change my mind, end of story.
By the way you can quote me but I have said before that the begining of the first Scream was good but then it really started to act all fake and suck the big one!:p

just rented slashers today, havent gotten to watch it yet. i love the running man and really liked the premise so i'm curious to see what i think of this one.
scream special effects? where? there was blood on a shirt, blood on a knife and some fake intestines on a guys pants. what great special effects? there werent any. so where is the comparison?
and the guy doesnt like scream, so fucking what? whats it your business? sorry to sound like a jerk, thats not my intent. but really, what concern is it to you?
i hate scream too, but you can like it. i dont care, but you dont need to push it on people like that.

I have to agree with tox. people shouldnt be forced into liking a movie or anything that they wouldnt like. You wouldnt like that so you shouldnt force them into it. if you like it fine. if someone else doesnt then let them be. opinions are what make us different. or some crap like that.
As for slashers, I havent seen it. Although The Running Man is classic Arnuld. great stuff.

cool, everyone else i know that has seen the running man hated it. i rented it and went to best buy and bought it while i still had the copy i rented, i had to have it. that was one of my best dvd purchases, i will never regret buying that one.
and because a movie has bad acting or bad effects, does that make it worse than scream? no, does it make it better? no. it just means we all have different opinions on movies. i love the dead hate the living and not alot here do, but it doesnt bother me. cause in all movies, i see how it can be hated or loved, i understand how horror can be hated. i love it, but its not hard to figure out why some people hate it.
and with scream, i'll never say a word about it until i hear "new ideas". cause i can prove the "new ideas" thing is crap, cause i'll name movies from where these so called new ideas were already used.

Yes I am talking about the Fangoria sponsored $la$her$. It's too low budget for my taste, it's like, a poor mans poor mans poor mans movie. It looks like they filmed it in a rented Paintball Arena.

i have to agree yet again tox. sure good acting and effects are good to have but if the movie is unintresting(which makes it boring) that cannot save it. I'm not saying long movies are bad, it has nothing to do with lentgh it has to do with how good the movie is to you. as for people having different opinions as i said before people do. I just pretty much said what you said, but hey I want to bump up my post count.
let's just get back to the topic.
I'll see slashers sometime. lately i've not been watching horror films. eh.

They probally did rent it there lol,
anyway yeah its low budget but if you can get past that and that chicks constant gasping and panting it is really not that bad and the concept is what got me and I was able to watch the whole thing and If I can do that then it does not blow that hard but I see what you are saying Wrath to each their own but really It is better than say Tequila Body Shots! :p

I'll rent $lasher$ eventually. It seems like a fun satire. I detest reality shows with a passion, so I should enjoy a genre film that mocks them.
Parilese, I hope you don't think that I was trying to convert you into a Scream fan. I was just trying to discuss the merits of Scream. That's all. I would never disparage your opinions. You're a cool, horror-loving chick and one of my favorite schmoes!

Thank you, Nah I do not think that you were trying to convert me, you are cool it was the other guy who was getting all offended. You as well as anyone are entitled to their opinion and Im not going to hate anyone who happens to like Scream. Scream let me down and it is me who finds nothing worthy within it but that does not mean I am right, It just means that is what I think. The only thing that irks me about Scream lovers is when they dare put down a classic and call Scream the best horror movie ever all in the same breath or sentance. If we did not have the films of the past then would we have these films of the present? I am sure there are movies I love that people hate as well.:p

I just watched Slashers tonight and I FUCKING LOVED IT!
It was extremely entertaining. Not scary at all of course, but it's not meant to be. The slashers themselves were all fucking cool and hilarious. My favorite is the Preacher Man.
Yeah it's obviously low budget, but it looked pretty good for a low budget.
This was a very fun movie and I imagine I'll probably be re-watching this one quite a bit.
I just wish they had kept in a few of the deleted scenes.

I don't know, I actually downloaded it since none of the stores around here have it for rent. I think it's good enough that I would be willing to purchase it for around 16-20 bucks, I wouldn't pay more than that though. I have alot of other movies on my to-buy list before I get this one anyway. It was a low budget movie though so I doubt that they would sell it for any more than 20.

Hey Bloodfeaster, I am glad to hear of someone else who likes this movie and I liked the extras on the DVD. Did that chick who gasped and breathed real loud annoy you? She annoyed the shit out of me but other than that cool flick!:p

Was that the political chick? I didn't really notice her breathing much so it must not have bothered me. I did think that the hispanic guy's acting was pretty poor though. There were a couple lines where he sounded completely unconvincing.
I'm talking to one of my friends on instant messenger right now, trying to convince him that he should blaze up a bowl and watch this movie :)

Saw $la$her$ last night and absolutely loved it!! At last good old fun cheese is back and I welcome it with open arms.
The 3 slashers were way cool. Did anyone think the doctor was a sneaky rip off of "The Scissorman" in the excellent computer game Clocktower?
Hope they make a $la$her$ 2

I'm all for enjoying cheesy z-grade movies, but $lasher$ was bad. Really bad. And I don't mean "bad" as in good. I mean bad as in I'd rather have red-hot pokers shoved into my eyes than watch it again.
The acting was horrible. The story was weak. I didn't give a damn about any of the characters. The plot twist near the end made ZERO sense. The fx were abysmal. The only thing I found remotely interesting about the movie was the attempt to make it look like it was filmed in one continuous camera shot.
If you want to see a MUCH better flick that makes a far stronger comment on reality TV, rent Series 7: The Contenders.

I agree totally with ParileseMonster. Scream had a bunch of trendy/hip/mtv generation x characters. They all suck and so did the movie. The 80s are over, there will never be another great slasher film. Period.
