Some of my favorite horror movies are old b&w ones like Carnival of Souls, Nosferatu, Night of the Living Dead, Horror Hotel, etc.

Can some people recommend other good b&w horrors. What are the best of the Hammer movies, and also please recommend other lesser known movies that aren't necessarily tied to a more well known name like Hammer or Vincent Price.

Thanks a bunch guys.

OK The best of HAMMER, IMO is:

1. Horror of Dracula
2. The Curse of Frankenstein.
3. The Brides of Dracula.
4. The Devil Rides Out.
5. Quatermass and the Pit.
6. Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed.
7. Blood from the Mummy's Tomb.
8. Vampire Circus.
9. Dracula - Prince of Darkness.
10. Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell.
11. The Gorgon.
12. The Vampire Lovers.
13. Dracula Has Risen from the Grave.
14. Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde.
15. Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter.

There are more of Hammer...

Try these too?

Tales from the Crypt. ( '72 film )
The Legend of Hell House.
Dr. Terror's House of Horror's.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes.
Theatre of Blood.
House of Dark Shadows.
Count Yorga - Vampire.
The House That Dripped Blood.

There aren't many films left for me to recommend, so I'll just reiterate what Fisting said...The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a dandy slab of silent cinema. You've probably seen it, but if you haven't, do so immediately. Also, I keep hearing that Haxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages, another silent film from the '20s, is one to get ahold of. It seems to fit your criteria.

If you can stand it, Rent the DVD of Dracula it features the spanish language version which was quite different and better than the english version in alot of ways. They both filmed at the same time using the same sets. English in the day and spanish crew at night. Features a great documentary on both versions and you can watch the english version of Dracula as is or with alternate music by Phillip Glass, the original featured minimal music.:p

I tend to prefere older movies - I think the 30's and the 70's produced the best Horror stuff..

Here's so 30's films I'd recommend:

Vampyr

Freaks

Murders in the Rue Morgue (with Lugosi)

The Most Dangerous Game

White Zombie

The Black Room

The Black cat

Maniac (must be seen to be believed)

Dark Eyes of london

The Raven

and all the Universal from that decade
