both seven and 8mm were scripted by the same person, andrew kevin walker i believe. seven in my opinion is one of the coolest thrillers around, it is as close as a mainstream movie can get to being an underground gem.

I personally loved Se7en, but I think that Fight Club is David Fincher's best work.

SEVEN (1995) Directed by the always interesting David Fincher of ALIEN 3 and FIGHT CLUB fame. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt portray detectives on the trail of a serial killer whose victims are perpetrators of the seven deadly sins (greed, gluttony, sloth, envy, wrath, pride and lust). An unbilled Kevin Spacey co-stars in a surprise cameo during the film's third act, and Gwyneth Paltrow is good in a small role as Pitt's loyal, innocent wife. This mega-popular psychothriller has it all: great performances from the four stars; an effectively gritty atmosphere (rainy, grainy no-name metropolis), rather than the overused polished, slick photography; one helluva chase sequence; classic opening credits/main titles design; an intelligent script by Andrew Kevin Walker; and a slam-bang twist ending that will knock your socks off! One of the best thrillers of the 1990's. My grade: A

I've been wondering about the DVD- can anyone tell me the additional scenes or trivia or whatever. Worth it? Include spoilers if you must.

I like this film because of the ambiguous characters and the hopeless feeling throughout the whole movie.
It is very dark and somber and the end is totally anti - Hollywood ( bravo !!!! )
Watch The Nameless it is as good as Se7en, really.

This is one of two movies (the other coincidently being Fincher's other masterpiece Fight Club) that takes mainstream cinema about as close to the edge as it's got in recent times (I actually think that during the murder of the prostitute scene it takes a wild leap over the edge). I was thrilled and appalled (in a good way) in equal measures by this movie. This movie epitomises the difference between a movie with vision and your typical bullshit generic serial killer flick. It rises so far above other movies in this genre that it can't see the competition for the clouds hovering below. Everything about this movie from the cinematography to the acting to the script to the score is simply masterful. When someone (usually someone of advanced age) tells me "Hey...they just don't make movies like they used to" like yesterday was some kind of golden age for cinema and the great movie makers these days are just regurgitating all the best ideas from the masterpieces of yesteryear. I direct them to this movie...it generally shocks them out of their complacency. Seven? 5/5
