Does anyone actually remember this film? And if so, was it any good? I remember seeing it when I was younger, and I remember being really scared of the movie for some reason. One scene in particular, that I remember not liking, was the scene where something (a person) falls and breaks into these freaky little,....things. I dont remember much else about it though, and have not been able to find it at any local video-stores (it isnt a "rare" film, or anything, is it?) So, is it worth tracking down?? Oh, and they do have the sequal at the video-store - is that one any good??

If you haven't already checked, Arrow has reviews for both Gate films. I haven't seen them, though.

I actually enjoyed it. Its more disturbing than most of the other kiddie horror movies put out in the 80's(Gremlins, Muchies, etc.) and it has a young Stephen Dorff. Some of the effects are dated, but does have its fair share of creepy moments. Favorite line: "You've been baaaaaaddddddddd".

Well, this is a duplicate topic, there's a good amount of Gate feedback here:

I remember this scaring me and liking this when I was younger but after recently seeing it on the Encore channel, it wasn't scary at all (of course) and it wasn't as good as I remember. It's still pretty cool, worth a rental maybe. Most would trash the sequel but I still found it enjoyable. Both of them are geared towards younger audiences. To see it easily and for free, if you have the Encore movie channel, its going to be shown again on May 25 at 9am and May 29 at 1:30 am.

I remember this movie (and it`s sequel). I haven`t seen either in years, though. I remember liking them both (moreso the original). And yes, it was pretty disturbing (when I was a kid, anyway).

And for the record, The Time sucked.

Ahhhh the memories. This was one of the first horror movies I ever saw. It's probably what really got my hooked on the genre. It ain't anything special, but if you love 80's cheese. Then you'll love this.

I too liked this film as a child. I believe it has a lot of originality too it, especially for the time it was released. I mean, has there been any other "kids home alone facing Satan's minions" before. I really liked the scene at the end where the kid is being pulled down into the hole and beyond by the little devil creatures. That creeped me out for a long time. More importantly, it made me think intelligently about the Devil, hell, minions, portals, etc.... Of course like the other's have said, when I watched it again on tv it did not have the same affect on me now as it did then.

yeah I have fond memories of this movie. It has some very disturbing imagery, like that eyeball in the hand and that giant demon at the ending...plus those little demons were cool...but one thing I could never figure out was how all this was happening in the neighborhood yet none of the neighbors seem to notice, in fact no one in the whole world noticed that hell was going to rule over earth...I mean with that giant tornado thing at the ending and all. I like specially that scene where the zombie that comes out of the wall falls to the floor and breaks into a bunch of those little demon creatures; and also that scene with the slimy hands coming out from under the bed...that had me looking under my bad for a long time...I think I actually remember jumping from my bed as far as I could...LOL http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

LOL, I always wondered the same thing, even when I was little!
P.S. - I actually thought the giant monster at the end was really cool - I see lots of you thought it looked fake. I don`t seem to remember thinking it was fake-looking, but then again I haven`t seen this in years.
