View Full Version : Would You Take the RED or BLUE Pill?

In The Matrix, Morpheus gives Neo two choices. The red pill or the blue pill. The red pill will make "you see the world as it really is", and the blue pill will "make you forget about The Matrix and go back to your illusory but reatively safe and predictable life". Neo takes the red pill, and The Matrix begins.

Now the real question is, which pill would you take? I'd take the red pill, so I'd have a real adventure.

I'd take the blue pill. I quiver at the idea of having plugs ripped out of my body as I go sliding down a waterpipe weakened and dillusioned.

Red Pill.

I know it causes pain and the experience waiting you is very dangerous, but I would have to know the truth and I'd want to live in the real world, however depressing it may be.

the blue pill would probobly kill you, they wouldn't want any witnesses ;)

I don't know, after i saw the film i would take the red pill. who wouldn't want to do Kun Fu like Sonny Chiba?

Then again if i haden't seen the movie and if i didn't know what was going on i would be like "No thanks Morph man, i don't take perscrition drugs from strangers" then i would walk away into the sunset...

That's actually interesting--I wonder what would happen if someone actually did take the blue pill? They will probably show it in one of those Animatrix things. By the way, is that out yet?

The blue pill does not kill. I thought Morpheus said they'd wake up in their bed, and won't remember anything about the meeting with him. Maybe I am wrong....

I'd take the red pill. Not out of heroism or trust or anything, but out of curiosity. I don't think I could ever have slept easy if I had taken the blue pill. I would've spent my nights thinking "hey, what if that whacky black guy with the glasses told the truth and there really was another world? wouldn't you want to see it? how would it be? why me?" and so on. I'm a curious motherfucker. I got two many questions, what I'd want would be answers. :)

Red Pill. I'd rather see the world as it really is, even if it is depressing.

Alright, for all you people who say you'd take the red or blue pill, consider this:

You meet a woman at a rave/leather club. She takes you upstairs where you meet a large, bald man who won't show you his eyes. He gives you an option of two pills. AND YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE ONE OF THEM???!?!?!?

I'd take the red pill; it's easy to think about it from out here amidst real life and want to take the blue one, but after hearing Morpheus' speech, it's definitely red, no contest...

Now if I could just decide whether I wanted the red or the blue M&M... (yeah that's me)

I would take the Red pill simply because i would be too curious to resist it. But how cool would it be to be able to download just about anything into your head. Red all the way.

The Red Pills are safe, but stay AWAY from the Blue Pills. If you have taken a Blue Pill Please proceed to the Medical Tent.

I would take a razor, cut the red pill in half, pour its contents on a spoon, and burn it. Then I would take a siringe, suck in the red pill's contents, and inject all of it in my vein!
Then morpheus would start to dance, trinity would strip, and cypher would tell jokes! Beautiful colors would swirl around me, I would faint, and wake up on the mother-fucking Nebechanezzar!

This is a copy of what I posted on a Matrix fansite many moons ago, it was in two parts so I'll post it as one post here, but with an indication of when the second part kics in:

It's one of those questions that's indivudual to all of us. A person's decision to choose the Blue Pill, or the Red Pill would depend upon a number of factors, including but not limited to:

1. The persons life within the Matrix (these are all just some examples)

If you have an individual with a very high paying job, who loved doing that job, who had an excellent personal life (ie happily married or attatched to someone*) and you gave them the choice of living in what is essentially a wastland, with no money, possesions and quite possibly without there loved ones it's quite reasonable to expect that person wouldn't want to be unplugged, compare that to

Some one with no friends, who hasn't got a good job, and who was desperately lonely and hated life, all off a sudden they're being told that it isn't "real" and that they can esape it. Admidetly they wouldn't be escaping to paradise, but they would be escaping to an existance where they knew that they would matter - After all everyone within the Resistance is important

2. How much they were told

If the person being unplugged was only told that they would "escape to the real world" then there is a possibility that they would choose to be unplugged. However describe in full detail to that person what the "Real world" is like and they might not be to willing.

3. How badly they strived.

As Bizjeff71 and Mercury... both pointed out - It's unlikey that Morpheus (or another member of the Resistance) is going to walk up to just anyone and offer them the pills. They would most likely only approach people who are aware, in some shape or form of the true reality of the Matrix, consequentially it's more likely that these people would want to be unplugged

To expand upon the *.

Put yourself in this situation. You're deeply in love with someone, essentially you live your life for that person, you're as one. You're told that your life is a lie, and that you can escape it all - Of course it's most likely that you would have to leave your loved one within the Matrix.

You might choose not to be able to do that and decide to say (which is to be respected). You might, however choose to be unplugged, after all as d3adm8n pointed out, you aren't always going to be in the Real world, it is possible that you might be allowed back into the Matrix (not including on Resistance business). You could always meet up with that person.

The problem is you would know that it wasn't "Real", also would you not being to doubt if the love you both felt was real, or if it had been programmed by the machines? Of course the Matrix can not tell you who you are and if you love someone in it, then you love them.

It's most likely the most difficult question a person could be asked. It's a question that I've thought about a lot since joining this messageboard, and although my answer would be to leave behind all the things that I love and choose the Red Pill I can fully understand why a person would choose not to.

---------(second part)---------

I myself haven't answered this so I'll try and answer it now.

If you'd have asked me 6 years ago I'd have chose the Blue Pill. If you 'd have asked me 5 years ago I'd have chose the Red Pill.

If you were to ask me today.

The Red Pill. Provided certain conditions were met, other wise I would choose to remain within the Matrix. (I'll base this against the points I raised previously, btw apologies if this sounds self-centered but I'm considering this as a brainstorm)

Assuming we're in a Matrix type environment

I have an excellent job. One that allows me to be extremly creative, and yet at the same time pays well. However it isn't "Real", so this wouldn't particularly bother me.

However, Since recently I have had virtually no use of the left side of my body. The question is, how would this differ outside of the Matrix. If I can't use my left leg within the Matrix would I be able to use it in when unplugged? Based on the film it would be the same, so this wouldn't concern me either. However, if I'm unplugged and told "Free your mind and your disabilities are limited to the Real World," would it not be possible for me to overcome this within the Matrix. This aspect I'm not sure of, though it would be nice

How I was told would also affect my decision. I made a post on another Matrix site, regarding the perception of Morpheus by those people still within the Matrix. Basically:

The Matrix has positioned Morpheus as a terrorist. It's quite likely that he would be viewed with as much hatred as Bin Laden - after all it's extremly likely that Morpheus has been responsible for the deaths of many people, as well as a hell of a lot of destruction. Yet, to the Resistance Morpheus is a hero, a vital member.

To us Bin Laden is viewed as the worlds most dangerous terrorist. None of us are likely going to spend god knows how much time researching all we can find about him. However, Neo does all this, to find out who Morpheus is. (Obviously, there's the fact that Neo knows there's something wrong with the world).

The point is, if a potential Resistance member researched the Matrix, and came accross the name of Morpheus what would they do - after all they would view him as one of the most dangerous people alive. Assuming they got past this stage, to a point where they were going to be unplugged what would happen if Morpheus was sent to offer them the pills.

In other words if you were sent to a secret location, and you were presented with a person you believed to be the most dangerous person alive, and this person gave you a choice between pills, one of which (thanks unholy Trinity for this,)

"offered to change your reality for that of a nightmare of cold, uncomfortable camp with no other joy as the human solidarity and the conscience of being a subject in a very important mission" (Sound familiar)

I'd run a mile. So obviously how you're told, and how much you're told would affect the decision.

Next, the most difficult decision off all

A person's private life is exactly that, and should remain so. However for the context of this scenario.

Being removed from my family wouldn't be an issue for me, after all they'd be safe within the Matrix, and you'd become part of 2 new families - the family onboard the ship, or in the area of Zion you work in, and the family of the Zion Resistance. However, being in love can cause all logic to be thrown out of the window.

If I was told that I could be removed from a Matrix like environment, but it would result in leaving behind the person I love then I would stay. Final decision, no hesitation. (Even though it goes against all the above points). However, if I knew that that person would be offered the opportunity to be unplugged then I would await their decision. If that particular person wanted to be unplugged, then again, everything is rosy. However if that person wouldn't want to be removed (for the record we've talked about it and they would want to be removed) then, again I'd have to stay plugged in.

So, for me it comes down to one issue - The response from the person who was going to unplug me, to the paragraph above. 1 person to be unplugged would result in a Blue Pill, two would result in 2 Red Pills.

Incidentially that thread went onto more in-depth discussions about the view of Morpheus as a terrorist, and in terms of discussion it was probably one of the best threads I ever took part in. If anyones interested you can read the entire thread here (http://www.thelastfreecity.com/mb/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=1244) (TheLastFreeCity.com - ZionSwitchboard)

Obviously you would all take the Blue Pill,
otherwise, Morpheus would have contacted you by now.
