I just thought I'd start up a thread for Hayao Miyazaki movies to hopefully get more recognition with the Schmoes...and to pool any other Miyazaki fans here together...

I am a major fan of Miyazaki and his works...and of course the talented composer he works with Joe Hisaishi...(my favorite composer-director duos are Miyazaki/Hisaishi and Elfman/Burton)...

I first saw Laputa: Castle in the Sky when I was a little kid and I loved it...and I've went on to see several of his movies...

Disney has purchased the rights to his movies, but unfortunately, they have failed in bringing them successfully to the big screen here. While excellent dubbing work was done with all the ones I've seen so far, Disney failed miyazaki by poor marketing, etc...Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away have both tanked at the box-office but have been critically acclaimed pretty much universally...the chances of Spirited Away winning a Best Animated Feature Oscar are slim though simply because not enough people have seen it...

I just watched Totoro last night, and i must say that it is my favorite Miyazaki movie so far...

Anyway the order in which I like them from the one i least like to most like:

Princess Mononoke
Nausicaa: Valley of the Winds
Kiki's Delivery Service
laputa: castle in the sky
Spirited Away
my Neighbour Totoro

Come one schmoes, keep this thread alive! Get some Miyazaki recognition out there!!!

Princess Mononoke (10/10) is one of my top 10 favorite movies ever. Spirited Away (9/10?) was amazing as well and you may have noticed it is graded a 9/10 with a question mark. All that means in I have only seen it once and I am sure I will like it more the second time around. My Neighbor Totoro (8/10) is great too. Haven't seen any others yet.

My Neighbor Totoro! Wow...ok, I saw this movie a very long time ago, having no clue exactly what it was...and enjoying it. It's now gathering dust on my shelf...as I have always dismissed it as a gift of some sort that I ended up with. But...I may just have to check it out.
