Do any of your local 'plexes show anything special late at night? I just noticed that one here is showing The Evil Dead at midnight all this weekend.

And I remember when I was just a wee lad that one theatre played all sorts of cool stuff - Pink Floyd: The Wall, A Clockwork Orange, Faces of Death, that sort of thing.

And is Rocky Horror still alive in your parts? It's still playing here in the East Village, and probably will be forever.

Sadly, the main theaters that did that in my area have now closed. My town has been virtually bought out by the "big, new" movie place, that has left all but two (a three-theater art-movie type place and a dollar theater) dead in its path. The small theater that played Rocky Horror...etc. is now, I believe, a part of a Wal-Mart or the like. :(

In Halifax, the Oxford movie theatre usually has midnight movies every week on Friday or Saturday...sometimes both. The last one I saw was Reservoir Dogs. I missed Dumb and Dumber though...I thought it was a week later than it actually was.

In my town, theres a theatre that plays Rocky Horry Picture Show ever night at midnight. Ive never been able to catch it, but supposedly people dress up as their favorite characters and such.

The Landmark (http://landmarktheatres.com/Market/NewYork/NewYork_frameset.htm) kicks ass! Whadda lineup it's got, um, lined up:

5/9 & 5/10 This is Spinal Tap

5/16 & 5/17 The Matrix

5/23 - 5/25 The Apple

5/30 & 5/31 Cannibal Holocaust

6/6 & 6/7 Superman: The Movie - Special Edition

6/13 & 6/14 Baise Moi

6/20 & 6/21 Rushmore

The Apple is quite possibly the worst movie ever made - a "futuristic" sci-fi musical from 1980 that takes place in 1994. Set in New York, but filmed in Berlin. Imagine a bastard child of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the ugliest costumes (think camel-toe) adorning wooden actors. It makes Can't Stop the Music look like Chicago. A camp classic! Can't wait.

I might also check out Cannibal Holocaust. I saw it in theatres back in, like, 1989, but I maybe will just rent it if I feel the need to sit through all the grue again...

God, why would this movie still be played twenty or so years after it was released. Hopefully, PETA will organize a sit-in or something.

The Astor is my favourite cinema in Melbourne, Australia. It plays a heap of diverse stuff, from b-grade horrors, to b&w classics, current releases, awesome docos, and anything in between.

Anyone seen Godfrey Reggio's brilliant trilogy of films?...

Koyaanisqatsi (Life Out Of Balance) http://www.astor-theatre.com/images/in-line/postersK/koyaanisqatsi-s.gif

Powaqqatsi (Life In Transformation) http://www.astor-theatre.com/images/in-line/postersP/powaqq-poster.gif

Naqoyqatsi (Life As War) http://www.astor-theatre.com/images/in-line/postersN/naqoyqatsi-th.gif

I've seen the first two, but not the third, which I'll see at The Astor in June. Drool!

Speaking of the Landmark Theatre chain, they ocassionaly have midnight showings of cult/horror themed movies which were succesful here in S.F. At the moment, none are happening as of this time.

Yeah, the local Landmark branches around here (The Mayan, Chez Artiste, and Esquire), all have midnight showings on saturdays. And not just the standards, either. In the past, they've had:

Army of Darkness
The Big Lebowski
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Monty Python and The Holy Grail
The Producers
