View Full Version : James Cameron on why he is not directing "True Lies 2"...

Cameron, while promoting Solaris, told Dark Horizons why he decided to leave True Lies 2 behind him......

"I put that in limbo after September 11. I just didn’t feel comfortable making a romantic comedy about international terrorism, to be perfectly honest."

Do you guys agree with this? I know 9/11 was tragic, but I believe they could've found away to change the plot to not offend people. Make it totally American! Have an evil group within America. It does NOT have to be some international terrorist group, and even if it was, a lot of people would not care. I don't hear folks protesting about Extreme OPS.

This makes sense though. I don't blame him right now. But maybe in like 2 or three years they can make it. With 9/11 in the past. And get back to terriost movies.

I just want to see another damn movie made by Cameron. Is that so much to ask for!? it's been too damn long for damnz-sake.

Yeah dh, Covert Ops, and some other ones that do not come to mind, they are still making them. But the guy has an opinion and probably knows what he is talking about- so I trust his decision.

i am protesting EXTREME OPS (im gonna pull a DH here and bash this b4 i see it... which i dont do too often) but that movie looks like PURE SHIT!!! (but it has Rufus Sewell who i enjoy after Dark City)!!

onto the topic:

True Lies was another one of Cams babies... it sux that we may never see a sequal to it, but if he feels after 9/11 it would be inapprpriate to make a film about terrorism that is his right... i do think given sum time he will change his mind! i am glad that he wasnt like in the middle of making it, than 9/11 happened and he scraped it, that woulda pissed me off, but i guess u cant miss sumptin that never existed!

Big Pudge, when you open a topic about an upcoming film, you are welcoming opinions, and if someone does not like the idea of the film or thinks the film looks bad, they have just as much right to voice their respective opinions, as someone who is in love with the film. I sometimes seem to say a lot of negative things because, in my opinion, Hollywood churns out a lot of garbage, such as Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights, which, once again in my opinion, looked mean-spirited and unfunny. Sorry for this off-topic reply, but I just wanted to defend myself against Pudge's comment.

I never want to see a True Lies 2. It would be a step back for Cameron if he was to repeat himself. I was never a big fan of the original, though it was an entertaining action-comedy.

I really don't think True Lies should be touched. It could be another good one. But I think they should leave it for now. But then again, Cameron made Aliens a awsome sequel, so I'm sort of torn.

I feel the same way. In fact, that's so simplistic and to the point that I can't elaborate. So I won't.

I think he's not doing it because his ego got so huge after Titanic it would look bad if he moved from a romantic drama to a silly action comedy.

When the hell is he going to make another movie? Or is he trying to pull a George Lucas on people, sit there on his ass with all his money and wait like 20 years before touching a camera again?

Now Tom Arnold said this in an interview (http://www.latinoreview.com/films_2003/wb/cradle2thegrave/tom_arnold_interview.html) :

Lets get back to the saying NO thing, would you say NO to TRUE LIES 2?

Tom: Would I say no to it? NO, I signed up; Arnold [Schwarzenegger] signed up, got a meeting with Jim Cameron next week. It's been a long process, Jim Cameron has been very busy, he's been at the bottom of the ocean [outburst of laughter], and he does what he wants to do when he wants to do it. He's a great guy.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the plot for the sequel?

Tom: No, he will kill me. He'll be all over it.

So, would this mean they are doing it after all?

Well maybe so. This definetely looks like a more recent interview. I hope it does happen. This is one sequel I would love to see. True Lies was a great movie and I think it could make a good sequel, especially with Cameron at the helm. And if it's not good, well, it's not my money, it's the studio's.

The Titanic sunk a good eighty years ago. September 11 was only a year and a half (a bit less). I think you can see my point.

Sounds like a plausable and very good excuse. Id rather him do something original instead anyway.

lets all take a moment of silence to cry for james cameron. that poor girl doesnt feel comfortable making a terrorist movie?? for a person who's whole career is based on violence and action he sure does have a soft pathetic bone in his body. or maybe the script just sucks.

I don't really care if he directs True Lies 2 or not, I just wish he would get off his lazy ass and direct something, anything!!! Its been six years since titanic I love james cameron's work I just wish he would make a new movie

I sincerely doubt that.

And I guess I can sympathize a little bit with him for not making a movie for so long. Titanic was one of the most expensive and difficult movies to make. I don't think anybody remotely human would jump immediately back into the filmmaking world, especially with the profits he made. It was undoubtedly an exhausting venture. If it had been me filming that thing I probably would've dropped dead from a sudden stress-induced heart attack :D

On the other hand, a 6 year wait is going a little overboard. I could probably accept maybe a 2-3 year break. I mean, Jaws was hard to make as well, but Spielberg jumped right back into the director's chair only two years later.

Anyway, if Cameron would get off his ass and make TL2, I would be eternally grateful.

"You're fired!"

i wouldnt doubt it, a female cyborg that he has to fight?? and in the trailer he say's, "she'll be back", plus, no sara conner, no edward furlong, yeah, thats a solid script.

Look, you have not read the script and you have no right to judge it. Edward Furlong did sign on for T3 but he got kicked out because he was a drug addict. Linda Hamilton will be in the film in newly shot flashback footage, and the "she'll be back" line was filmed exclusively for the trailer. BTW, the entire film is not about arnold fighting a female terminator. Give the film a chance.

Arnold confirmed it

and Stan Winston said that they are very tightlipped as to what type of role her footage will play:

I'd bet money Sarah Connor gets killed.

That said, thanks for letting us know about that.. Makes it seem a lot more interesting, though I still have serious doubts about T3. Hope it can stand up though, as I love the previous two.

wow, she's in it for a flashback! well i guess i'll just have to take everything back now wont I? and how do you know "she'll be back" was just shot for the trailer, did you work on set? the movie looks dumb. and just incase your to stupid there was a hint of sarcasm in this reply.

Look, i know hell of a lot more than you do about T3. No, i didnt work on the set, but i did see behind the scenes footage that prove that "she'll be back" was filmed for the trailer. You are immediately saying that this film will be garbage based on a trailer and the fact that there is a female terminator. You most likely dont know shit about the film or anything that has gone on behind the scenes. so, instead of calling me stupid (i knew that your post was sarcastic), why dont you give the film a chance when its released.

i am not saying that it will be the best movie ever made but i think its going to be a kickass movie and that it will be better than the first two terminator films.
