I cannot see the sneak because it did not come to my area, but this film does look wonderful. First, I like Jennifer Lopez. She is a great actress whether it be a romantic comedy(The Wedding Planner) or a thriller(Enough), her films are always entertaining. Second, Ralph Fiennes is a brilliant actor. A lot of charm and depth, and he was amazing in this year's Lecter thriller Red Dragon. Third, this film looks fun, much like Two Weeks Later, and sweet. Sometimes I like to kick back and see a modern day fairy tale about love and joy. Its fun! I will see this one opening day. Maid In Manhattan looks wonderful, and I am sure the box office will be great, but thats for a different time, and a different thread.

I normally would have no interest in seeing this movie, but my friend Jimmy is in it (according to IMDb (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Mount,+James), he plays "Marshall's Aide"). This is his first film role, so of course I'm gonna support his career any way I can.

I saw it last night and it was excellent, a real crowd-pleaser. Undoubtably one of the best romantic comedies of the past few years. Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes did really well in their roles, and the supporting cast was also really good. The movie was really sweet and had a good overall message. I highly reccomend everyone checking this out on December 13th, when it opens wide, for I will be seeing it again. One of my favorite movies of the year.

Grade - 8.5/10 or A-

This looks like yet another UNrealistic romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez as a woman who no one notices and she can't get a date until one hot guy notices her...only this time she's not a "Wedding Planner" she's a "Maid".

It looks like a rip-off of the other ABYSMAL romantic comedy she stared in last year just in a different profession.

I think this movie looks like C-R-A-P! Totally unrealistic, totally unfunny, totally....why do I keep saying totally? I cringe every damn time the TV spots are on (which is about every .4 seconds). J. Lo. even apologised for all the ads when she was on TRL! And they showed a clip on ET of Jennifer and her fellow maids dancing around to "I'm coming out..." and I couldn't help but vomit! ;)

I couldn't agree more. I'm tired of J-Lo's pathetic attempts at romantic comedies. I don't mind the genre.. there are some great romantic comedies, but I really really doubt "Maid In Manhattan" will be one of them.

I feel like ranting like crazy about this film, but I'm only going to sum it up in a few words:

This film looks almost like a clone of The Wedding Planner. I saw both trailers for both films, and they look virtually identical. This film looks like predictable garbage, and this concept has been done over and over again in the past years.

A very unrealistic movie. No one gives her the time of day until she starts wearing another womans clothes??? Sorry in N.Y this woman could wear a trash bag and turn heads.Another unrealistic moment in the trailer, she is photographed sitting next to the would be senator, and it ends up on the cover of the newspaper and no one knows/finds out who she is??? huh??? summed up in a word:DUMB

When I first saw the trailer for this film I though it looked pretty bad. But after a while, I caught a little interest into this movie. So I will be seeing this film. I would like to try and catch the second sneak preview this Saturday.

I'm in the minority here, but Maid In Manhattan looks like good, old-fashioned, crowd pleasing fun!

Although the film looks completely unoriginal, I have a hunch that
it will be a solid performer during the Holiday season, with many people looking for a good ole, escapist, rags to riches love story.

Ralph Fiennes + romantic comedy = oil and water.

I think the guy is an incredibly actor, but this just isn't his sort of film- OK, I admit, I haven't seen it, but I think you can normally discern a films' tenor with the blurb. And romantic comedy...no way. He may be good in his role, but...no.

Considering he was chosen by Spielberg for Schindler's List because of his "evil sexuality," Maid In Manhattan doesn't appear to be a role made in heaven, does it?

wow,for some odd reason something is pulling me towards that one sheet,i actually like it for some reason, nonetheless, that wont change my opinion on this flick...for one, whats ralphie fiennes doing in this kind of genre????i dont think this looks too good at all, total cliche all over it in the bad way....of course though,it will make tons of money.

PLEASE support this movie and make it a hit. Don't just judge it by J-Lo and if you like her or not. I was completely surprised by her performance, and the movie is not a clone of "The Wedding Planner." Honestly, it is a good movie, and I highly reccomend a few going out to see it either at the sneak preview tonight or when it opens officially.

The double sneak preview thing could be good for a movie, or bad for it. I say this because many people will go to the first sneak preview. Then the people that didn't catch the first one, go to the second one. By the time it comes to Regular Engament, many of the people will have seen the film. So it wouldn't make as much money during it.

Though it will make a lot of money during it's Sneak Preview time. But at least it gives time to see a film you would like to, ahead of time.

am i the only one who loves that song by the police "every little thing she does is magic" and think it goes perfecly with this flick and its spots on tv,nonetheless that wont get my money for it in theaters unless i got a girl with me which is very unlikely.

I am glad they changed the title of this one. It was originally titled The Chambermaid, which sounds like a historical drama, in my opinion. Maid In Manhattan sounds MUCH better.

Hmm... I don't know about you, but just with watching the trailer and TV spots, I've already found 3 potential problems with the film. However, the movie still looks like a fun time. And anything that has the gorgeous J. Lo in it... I will see it! :D

I really like Jennifer Lopez as an actress and I've enjoyed Out Of Sight, The Wedding Planner, Angel Eyes (you heard me), Enough, etc... The Wedding Planner was surprisingly very cute and so was Jennifer Lopez in it. I don't care what anyone says, I found it entertaining. I think Maid In Manhattan will be a pretty good flick, even if it will be unoriginal, does anyone actually think that it was going for originality in the first place? HELL NO! It's just a crowd please romantic comedy that you can watch and be entertained, it's not American Beauty and it doesn't pretend to be. Come on people, doesn't anyone just watch some movies to be entertained anymore?

Anyway, I'll see Maid In Manhattan. I'm not against seeing it in theaters but most likely I will just be renting it.

James Berardinelli's (http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/) review of the film :

Whatever happened to Jennifer Lopez, actress? Seductive, charismatic, and energetic, she electrified the screen in movies like Selena and Out of Sight. The woman masquerading as her in Maid in Manhattan appears to be the one who stole her name for such lackluster fare as The Wedding Planner, Angel Eyes, and Enough. Perhaps the advent of J.Lo, pop personality, has crushed all but a few remaining vestiges of the woman's acting ability, but the Jennifer Lopez appearing on screen in 2002 bears little resemblance to her earlier self.

Even if she was in peak form, it's doubtful that Lopez could do much with the material that forms the framework for Maid in Manhattan, a by-the-numbers, Cinderella romantic comedy that is guaranteed to insult the intelligence of any audience member over the age of 10. It's entirely possible for a formulaic motion picture to be enjoyable. Conventional storytelling is not necessarily a bad thing, but it has to be accomplished with zest and verve. Maid in Manhattan isn't just predictable – it's badly acted, blandly directed, and could have been scripted by someone who just graduated from elementary school.

Maid in Manhattan introduces us to Marisa Ventura (Lopez), a maid at New York City's prestigious Beresford Hotel. One day, while illicitly trying on the clothing of a wealthy guest, Marisa is caught red-handed by Senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), who has just met Marisa's son, Ty (Tyler Posey). What's a woman to do? Sheepishly admit to being seen doing something she shouldn't have been doing? Of course not - this is a movie. Instead, she pretends to be the owner of the clothing, and thus begins a series of misunderstandings and mistaken identities. In the end, Marisa and Christopher are fated to be together, but, in order to get to the point where they admit their true feelings, we have to grope our way through 90 minutes of unbelievably bad tripe.

Storylines in romantic comedies aren't supposed to mean much. They're a means to an end, but when a picture assaults the audience's willing suspension of disbelief the way this one does, something has gone horribly wrong. Maid in Manhattan relies upon a pair of painfully inept contrivances direct out of a bad TV sitcom. Still, things might have been salvageable if there had been a hint of chemistry between Lopez and Fiennes, but there's nothing there – not even the faintest hint of a spark. Fiennes does not give a dynamic portrayal, but he's fine at being suave and debonair. Unfortunately, Lopez doesn't give him anything to play off of. By the time in the movie when we're supposed to be rooting for these two to get together, we're fighting back the urge to take a nap.

One member of the supporting cast should be given an A for effort, although his participation would have been better in another movie. That's Bob Hoskins, who plays a sage, aging butler at the Beresford. Sadly, Hoskins' attempt to inject a little dignity is quickly swept under the rug with all of the rest of the room service crumbs. Natasha Richardson is grating as the over-the-top shrew whose clothing Marisa "borrows." Stanley Tucci is solid, although not memorable, in the sort of uptight role he is becoming accustomed to. And young Tyler Posey proves that not every child actor is gifted. (Is that a cruel statement? Yes. But it's also honest.)

The director of Maid in Manhattan is Wayne Wang. Like Lopez, he appears to have been the recent victim of an identity theft. It's hard to reconcile the connect-the-dots job here with the man who helmed The Joy Luck Club and Smoke. Outside of the film's first fifteen minutes, which purport to show the behind-the-scenes goings on at a five-star hotel (this part was kind of interesting), Maid in Manhattan has little to recommend it. This isn't just typical, unchallenging Hollywood drek – it's typical, unchallenging Hollywood drek made by people who don't care, for people who don't care.

I didn't want to see it before, but now there's no way in hell I am seeing it.

Normally I wouln't mind a movie like this. I wouln't go and see it, but it wouln't bother me. The thing that gets me with this movie is Mrs. Lopez (or should I say Affleck). On every interview promoting this movie, she says that she can "releate" to her character because that's how she is. WTF?

In the movie, Lopez plays a poor maid who cleans toilets etc. In life, Lopez is a pop diva who gets her many servents (or anyone who is there at the time) to repaint here fucking toilet. She is earning millions of dollars for singing and acting (dream jobs for alot of people), waring clothes that cost more than my house and being waited on hands and foot. She then has the gaul to go on TV and say "I can relate to my character because that's how I am in life". Please. At first I thought she was saying about the loving side of the character but then she mentioned growing up in the Bronx and having a hard life! Hard life!?

Am I the only one that is offended by Lopez's attitude? A hell of a lot of people work their asses off all day, every day (myself inculded) just to get by and then we her a rich "I've got it all" saying shes had life hard. Homeless people have it hard, people with dieseses have it hard, people at war have it hard. A women whos husband buys her a ring with a rock the size of Austraila does not have it hard.

I'm sorry if going on but what Lopez is saying to promote this movie is just too patronising and insulting. A couple of shows over here have slated her for saying those things. I hate watching a spoilt, dare I say this, brat saying shes got it bad. Even in her latest song she says "Don't be fooled by the rock that I got, I'm still Jenny from the block". The fuck you are. She is getting more stuck up by the week! Try fighting fires, saving lives or hell, try making your own bed!

Amen. Its insulting how she flaunts her wealth like that and then pretends like she "relates to the commoners". Like someone said on these boards, she's a diva bitch.

There's a rumor going around that she got into a complete temper tantrum when she was due to appear on a music show over here. Get this, she wanted her dressing room painted a different colours with silk throws and candles all over the place. When the company said no, she treatened to cancell her apperance. I don't know what happend or if it's true but alot of people have been talking about it.

God, she gets on my nerves. Even in her videos she makes it look as if shes got it tough. Remeber a few months back that video when see did that duette (I don't know what it was called). It had her playing a "poor girl" from the "hood". Fair enough but she was dressed as if she was going to an award show or something. The video shows her in the bronx (sunbathing outside), the place looks like a shit hole and she is wearing millions of dollars worth of clothes!

I hate it when celebrities say they're down to earth when they are obiviously not. I'm also shocked at the hard working folk who actually belive this women when she says life is hard for her. She is the most spoilt star in Hollywood. I don't know why, her acting is shit (to be honest it is) and her singing sounds just like anyother r&b artist outthere. I wish she loses her millions and is forced to move to the Bronx.

Hey, easy on the Bronx! Anyway..I personally cannot stand J Lo. She is as fake as they come, which is obvious because she keeps saying "I'm real" or "I'm still me" in her various atrocious hip-hop/garbage "songs".

"I am Utuk from the Bronx, used to have a little now I have alot"...

I'm not a big fan of Jennifer Lopez "the person" but I'll admit to enjoying Jennifer Lopez "the actress." She's really impressed me in her roles, especially since I usually end up liking her characters yet I think she would be a self-absorbed bitch.

And by the way, I actually like some of her songs, right now I'm really digging her "Jenny from the block" song, it's just fun.

I have also noticed that she keeps on trying to make this statement endlessly in songs and interviews! We know you're "still Jenny From The Block", Jennifer! Anyway, I like her music for the most part, and I loved her acting in Selena and Out Of Sight[one of my fave films]. Although she is still a good actress, her acting abilities now seem more "glossy" and "mainstream" because of her superstardom.

With Jennifer Lopez or whatever she's being called this week, I always feel like she has shot herself in the foot when it comes to films. She started off promisingly- she pleased the Selena fans with a lively, vibrant performances as the titular star, she proved that she could do action babe with edge in Out Of Sight, and then came along "J-Lo- The Alter-Ego."

J-Lo made music, not movies. And the movies she did make were basically J Lo, with a different sheen. She's a wedding planner, a chambermaid, down on her luck, yet endlessly spirited. It grows tired after a while.

So, after all this gloss and cuteness, she tries her hand at the edgier Angel Eyes (not exactly a stunner, but still a leap from romantic comedies nonetheless), the laughable enough (even the premise is somewhat forehead-slappingly clichéd..."hello, I'm a woman and I take NO SHIT!"), and falls flat on her lip-glossed face. She's condemned herself to a life of romantic comedies. It may work for Meg Ryan, but she doesn't walk around calling herself M-Ry.

La Lopez is wanting too much...

Maid in Manhattan is a predictable, formulaic, romantic Cinderella story but it was funny, sweet and charming and I enjoyed it. Jennifer Lopez stars as Marisa Ventura who works as a housekeeper at the Beresford Hotel, who is mistaken for a guest by Chris Marshall played by Ralph Fiennes who is a candidate for senator, after she is found wearing the clothes of a socialite Caroline played by Natasha Richardson. Marisa has a young son named Ty and she aspires to be more than just a maid, she wants to be part of hotel management. Naturally her romance with Chris under false pretences gets in the way of that...and his campaign for senator. Of coure it's about the poor girl, getting a chance to mingle with the rich and famous for a few days...and realizing that Chris doesn't care about her background and class. Yes, we've seen and heard it all before in plenty of other romantic comedies of this sort, but I enjoyed it because of the two leads especially the lovely Jennifer Lopez, who is just easy to watch. Fiennes you would think seems out of his element with this material, but he handles himself nicely and is quite charming. The film is also quite funny especially Stanley Tucci as Marshall's campaign manager. Overall Maid in Manhattan is pretty much what you would expect: a predictable and somewhat unbelievable romantic comedy...but it is fun, sweet and charming and the two leads make it enjoyable, especially Jennifer Lopez.

I can buy that it's completely unoriginal.

But it's also completely stereotypical.

She's a hispanic woman who makes a living as a maid in a hotel. (not at ALL stereotypical, as Natasha Richardson's character shows.) She has a son which of COURSE she's raising on her own, because that makes it more heartwarming. (although the 70s thing is stretching just a tad)
I can wholeheartedly believe that she has to have a man to be validated. (as evidenced by her flaunting of her professional relationships)
I can also buy into Ralph Fiennes' character being successful in politics (if he's DUMB enough to fall for all that, politics is EXACTLY where he belongs)!
Lying gets people further in life, especially if you're allegedly beautiful.

Here's what I can't buy:

Early on, her character doesn't seem that interested in sex/men - seems as if she can get by without it. (totally contradicts the idea of the movie)

Ralph Fiennes' character is that stupid. In "Red Dragon" he didn't have a heart. In this one, he doesn't have a brain!

And most importantly: If those clothes that she wears (the white outfit from the beginning) are actually a size SIX I'll eat my hat. I'd think even JHo's SHOE size is more than a six.

But then again, I'm a complete cynic (as I'm sure is now apparent). And no, I didn't pay to see it - a friend paid so that he could hear me make comments about Lopez when it was over.

:D

Maid In Manhattan is an okay time passer that could have actually been a good romantic film.

Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes are great in their respective roles and seperately, however the films problem lies mainly in the fact that the two, when together have no chemistry at all.

The film is also full of cliches, and copies directly from various other romantic comedies (cough cough Pretty Woman).

I admired the entire cast, especially the young boy who plays J.Lo's son...he was great.

I also liked how the film adressed the stereotypes that plague latinos/as.

I did enjoy Maid In Manhattan but I can't quite say that I thoroughly liked it. Its pure utter fluff, but charming fluff.

To bad that George Clooney wasnt available to play the leading man. He and Lopez were hot together in Out Of Sight. Next time she does a romance, he'd better be the leading man.......those two have C-H-E-M-I-S-T-R-Y!

Hmmm....was this Pretty Woman? Seemed very simliar....Anyway, I thought it was predictable, weak writing, not too impressed with Lopez's acting in it and as much as I love Ralph Finns (is that spelling right? sorry if not!!), his character was a little too vanilla. Personally I found Two Weeks Notice so much better.
