Is there any news of a Silver Surfer film? I am asking because I read Marvel was selling tons of film rights to a lot of their properties since X-Men, Spider-Man, and the Blade films were so lucrative and popular. I think The Surfer is the best Marvel character, and he would rock the spaceway as a film character!

Who do you guys think should play the Surfer? Myself, I would nominate Jude Law. He has a great depth, and can play any character from a rich playboy to a crazed hitman. There is also Edward Norton and Matt Damon, who would both rule as The Surfer also.

What do you schmoes think?

P.S. While you are thinking look at these SPECTACULAR Surfer covers....

I hope Hollywood sees the silver(or the light) and makes this film!

Also, thanks to http://marvelite.prohosting.com/surfer/ for all the photos. They are the best Surfer site on the net, in my opinion.

Do you guys think this should be an origin story or just another Silver Surfer adventure, with a short flashback to explain?

I do hope we get to see Galactus(drawn above by Alex Ross). He would be amazing to see, if any mere filmmaker could properly capture him.

And if the first film is lucrative, there could be a Surfer series! That'd be amazing, but I douby they'd do a crossover film, but seeing the Surfer fight Dracula would be cool, but it would never be done in Hollywood.

Personally I think hollywood should stay clear from any new comic based movies for a while. With X-Men, Spiderman, DareDevil, The Fameous 4 (sorry if that's the wrong name but for some reason I can't remember if its famoues or fantasic), Helloboy and others coming out, the whole genre is in danger of becoming overused and stale.

I'd love to see the Silver Surfer on the big screen. That would be very cool but not yet. In a couple of years, sure. I just don't want people becoming bored with comic based movies resulting in good comic books being ruined.

i agree. also, since he principally rides his silver board, aren't we almost bound to see entire cg & blue screen action sequences?!?!?! but then again, i'm not a director, so perhaps it could work, but i just don't want to see the wasted potential of a good story & character.

Stan Lee did say on TV once about a Silver Surfer movie coming out. Don't get me wrong, this would be, ya' know, cool. But SS isn't my favorite Marvel character. I'd much rather watch a Fantastic Four film, which, as said in one of my Wizard books, Christ Columbus is scheduled to direct.

I would like Steven Seagal to play SS.

But, if he dies of exhaustion before then, Collin Farrell or Jude Law would be good choices.

I doubt they'd cast him since his latest films such as Half Past Dead were all serious bombs. Exit Wounds, while starring Seagal, made a lot of money because DMX was present in the film.

Silver Surfer would require wall to wall CGI to fully demonstrate to the audience the depths of his awesome power. I'm not sure they're at the point yet where they can pull of the mightiest hero of all.
