I was snooping around at my x-mas gifts and found the the dark half. Does anyone know what's it about or if it's any good?

It's an OK flick. It's based on a Steven King novel about a successful writer who, besides releasing his own novels, writes and releases "sleazier" stuff under a pseudonym. But it looks like this pseudonym has taken a life of its own when some nasty murders from these books are acted out in real life - and the writer becomes the main suspect.
Timothy Hutton does fine in the main role. This was a major studio release so at least from a video/audio standpoint you get a good presentation. A couple of gore scenes, but the movie's more about that "did he do it or is there someone else doing it" mystery.

----->based on King's book by the same title, and written and directed by George Romero. Hutton was an excellent Beaumont and Stark. This is, IMO, one oft he better King & Romero films. I liked it alot!

I am a HUGE King and Romero fan, but i must say that this film was a mess. It had a good beginning, but logic slowly started to get farther and farther away until the ending became just BAD.
Some Minor Spoilers!
George Stark kills the man in the hallway of the apartment building and a few seconds later the cops <who were coming to protect the guy!> show up. They run over to the guy and check if he's dead <he is!> and then see a figure <Stark> going into the elevator. The cops see the guy and say, "Well he's gone, so forget about it". WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, what a "real" cop would do. 1.) go check the body and immediatley call on his radio for an ambulence and more cops. The cops in the movie didn't even have radios! 2.) After seeing the figure go after him because that person needs to be questions <they were right near a murder!>. 3.) After the figure makes it down the elevator the cops wouldn't just give up they would radio that someone is leaving the building and then GO AFTER HIM!
This is just one of many "What the Fucks?!?" in this movie
I will admit that Hutton played a great duel role and Romero put together some nice shots. Especially the ones with the sparos.

Actually I remember enjoying this one a lot. I dont know what it gets all the heat. I thought the idea behind it was excellent! How the writer had a tumor and it was really a twin brother that hadnt been born, and even after its removed...still manage to live in him.
Though I havent seen it in a long time, I do remember enjoying it...dont know how I would react if I saw it now..

I honestly thought it was a decent movie. I am a big King fan and usually read the books before I see the movie. Of course his books are always better--you seldom see a book to movie from King that is worth watching. This is one of those that wasn't that bad. ( I won't even get started ranting about the bad ones) Anyway I hope you enjoy it..if not--I hope we hear why not :)
