Since those were those the only two great ones (Batman Forever was OK), I liked Batman Returns more.

I didn't like how Batman (9/10) was all set to Prince music. Batman had the better villain and was, after watching it a little less than a month ago, not really all that dated, that helped a lot. Batman Returns (9/10) had a much more gothic and gloomy feel to the whole movie and I really liked that, but I didn't like some of the effects. There were a lot more brooding sets in Batman Returns, so if I had to choose one, I'd pick Batman ReturnsBatman Returns.

I actually liked Batman Forever more than the previous 2. But out of those 2, I'd say Batman Returns was better

Batman Returns was pretty good, but I'll have to go with Batman. Batman Returns was a little too dark compared to Batman, and it wasn't as weird and twisted.

I liked Batman more, but Batman Returns had just about the sexiest villain ever put on film.

I find it hard to decide between the two. Batman is a richer, better adventure film with artistic integrity within its design. Batman Returns is thematically, however, far stronger and more interesting, as well as oddly beautiful. But a Batman film should always be judged by its villains, and I think Returns perfects it; Michelle Pfieffer in true sex in leather style and The Penguin, you can't resist, when he chokes up black bile. Plus it has one of my favourite scenes.
As the Penguin is pampered by two PR people and one makes a joke of the lack of mirrors in the sewers.
PENGUIN
It could be worst, my nose could be gushing blood.
They burst into forced laughgter. The PR man looks confused and leans closer to the Penguin.
PR Man
I don't think I get it, my nose could be gushing blood?
The Penguin then bites his nose, and blood gushes.

I rank them as much:
1.) Batman Returns -7.5/10
2.) Batman Forever -6/10
3.) Batman -5.5/10
4.) Batman & Robin -2/10

I'd choose BATMAN RETURNS. It was one of the very first films I saw and it was more dark than BATMAN, which is why i liked RETURNS better. Ever since I was 4, I had Michelle Pfeiffer/Catwoman printed in my mind! She is so sexy and she is my favorite character out of all the BATMAN films, not to mention my favorite villain! *MEOW*
Oh yeah, The Penguin was kool too, and creepy when I first saw him on screen.

ok, before i confess my answer, i MUST say that i wished all to heck that they had michelle pfieffer's selena/catwoman with jack nicholson's joker in the first batman instead of STUPID kim basinger as vicki vale. i would have liked batman sooo much more if kim basinger wasn't in it. anyways
but, i loved the first batman. it just...well, i LOVED IT...but cat woman and the joker are my most favorite villans, and so like i said, if they put catwoman with the joker, i would have liked it more. but i also liked batman returns because of catwoman and of course, batman....the others after that i try hard to forget. without michael keaton, it just dont feel like batman! ha

Batman Returns is by far the best of the Batman flicks. Due mostly to Michelle Pfeiffer. http://web60.athen.wivt.de/florida-server/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/__thumbsup.gif

batman returns is the greatest! even if jack nicholson is dead-cool I'd favor miss Michelle as the slickest villian in the franchise.
As with Superman, the 1st Batman is the best. Batman Returns, though, was a disappointment. Michelle Pfieffer was purrfect casting as Catwoman, but Danny DeVito, as much as I like him, was far too unsympathetic & Joker-like as Penguin. The best Penguin is still the late, great Burgess Meredith.
I also wonder how the heck Penguin got his flippers on the Batmobile's designs.

Between the two, I will have to say Batman (1989)
But with all four together, it goes like this:
Batman - 9/10
Batman Forever - 8/10
Batman Returns - 6/10
Batman and Robin - (first time it was 2/10, 15th time it was 5/10)

I'd have to say Batman. Keaton was the best. Nicholson was the best. The action scenes RIPPED. End of story.

Well, Batman needed a love interest;) . Maybe kim was miscast as Vicki Vale, would you have liked Batman more if someone else was cast as Vicki Vale?

Batman Returns was the best followed by Batman and Robin. The other two didn't really turn my crank.

Wow, we actually have someone who enjoyed Batman & Robin! (not dumping on you, just saying it's hard to find the minority who liked Batman & Robin)

On a whole the two films are equal, they perfectly embodie everything about the batman universe. But the two are nearly equal, with the exception of the one villian/two villains change.
Jack Nicholson as the Joker has some of the best lines and one liners ever written. Some of his stuff is hilarious. And Miachale Keaton has some great scenes as Batman as well. Everything else is almost irrelevant.
Danny Devito is a great Penguin, i dont think they could have picked a better man for the job. He also has some great lines as well, including the gushing blood line from above. Keaton is good as a Conflicted Batman, and Michelle Pfifer is great as medium of the two, fighting with herself over her two personalities, good and evil. Both are wonderufl Tim Burton films.
I;d have to say it was a tie. HAHA

I kinda like Batman and Robin too!:D The first time I watched it I HATED it. The second time I thought it was fun, Uma Thurman was very sexy but George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger were totally miscast.
