I recently just watched this and was wondering if other schmoes found this movie to be confusing. I thought that it had some really good merits like the brilliant cinematography by Bava, upbeat and nice musical score, some good fx, and a good job of dubbing.

It has been said to have inspired the first couple of Friday the 13ths and that is the reason I watched it. Some of the murders were reminiscent with
[spoiler...highlight to read:]
the arrow through the couple on the bed and the knife to the face. The opening was also well done with the old heiress getting offed in the mansion..

I just thought it was a little convoluted and the characters were a little thin. Plus the ending was a little dissapointing kind of ending ubruptly.

Just curious if you schmoes found this to be a classic, terrible let down, or a near miss. Thanks

Bay of Blood is one of my favorites. I don't know why you found it confusing. It's a very basic plot:
[spoiler...highlight to read:]
a family offing one another in order to get the inheritance.
[end spoiler]
I actually love the ending. It's a great twist:
[spoiler...highlight to read:]
after offing the entire family to acquire the inheritance, the couple is accidentally killed by their child. In the end, it's the child who has inherited the money.
[end spoiler]
Phenomenal movie. I love it. Think I'll go watch it right now!

PS-Prowler, PLEASE be careful when it comes to spoilers. Please read the boards' rules and place spoiler warnings for the shmoes who haven't seen a certain film!!!

Sorry about that Lord Crumb. Didn't mean to post without spoilers. I wasn't trying to spoil the movie for everyone. I'll be more careful when I post about particular movies next time.

Mario Bava is definetly one of my favorite horror director along with Carpenter and Argento.
I own A Bay Of Blood ( and Blood and Black Lace, A Hatchet For The Honeymoon, Schock ) and it is a great giallo but it has more in common with a slasher.
The photography from Bava is full of color, the murders are less stylish it is more brutal and it is highly gory.
It is sadistic and cruel, too but hey he's italian and most of them are cruel and sadistic ( Soavi, Lamberto Bava, Argento, Fulci )
The film has a lot of black humor, too.
I like the end a lot ******************* SPOILER ********************** SPOILER *******************
the kids killing their own parents !!!

Decent slasher flick.. BUT.. the dvd leaves MUCH to be desired:

Crappy transfer
POOR audio

This needs to be remastered by a PRO. NOT the hacks who have been doing most of Bavas 60's and 70's stuff.
