It's a pretty good "late in the game" slasher flick with a bit of fantasy element thrown in, no doubt inspired by "A Nightmare on Elm Street" I'm sure. Worth the watch or two.

I madman is a creepy little gem...
I saw this for the first time in 1989 and it has a lot in common with the early Elmstreet, but gets kind of laughable at the end...
Get it itīs a lot better than most of the slashers from the late 80īs

My dad had that on tape somewhere. Seen it on Cinemax in the late 80s. I probably watched it back then, but I can't remember anything about it.

It's not that bad aside from the shitty one frame at a time claymation effects. I don't know it's out on DVD, but the audio on the tape I own is just horrible. It pretty much ruined the movie for me.
What I wanna know is, does anybody know anything about the guy who directed this movie? His name is Tibor Takacz and also directed The Gate 1 and 2. Not much is known about him, I tried to look him up on the web and found nothing. Most of his films were shot in Canada though. Is he Canadian? I would appreciate any info.

It's definately worth a viewing. (Then again I think all horror films are worth at least one) Try "Anguish" if you get a chance.

I saw this ages ago (under the better title of HARDCOVER) and thought it was pretty good. The effects at the end aren't all that good, but the whole movie is pretty fun so it doesn't matter too much.

Wow, what a blast from the past. I must've been 9 or 10 when I saw this one and I barely remember it at all. I do remember thinking it was quite good and I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure there's a scene with some guy getting his ear cut off.

I remember first hearing about this film at my first Fangoria Weekend of Horrors. It had a very limited release, and I finally saw it when it was released to video. I think I remember being a tad disappointed with it, but liking it just the same. If I remember correctly, it's about a women who is menaced by a fictional Jack the Ripper/Moriarty-like character who somehow comes to life and murders people to use pieces of their faces to reconstruct his own. It's kinda tongue-in-cheek, but not parodic or self-referential. More in tone to, say, "Re-Animator." Darkly humorous.
I think it's been long out of print. Too bad, I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Maybe Anchor Bay -- all hail Anchor Bay! -- will pick it up.
BTW, doesn't Arrow have a review of this?

This movie was called Hardcover in the UK and I remember enjoying it immensly. It was watching my recently purchased Anchor Bay release of "Near Dark" that sparked my memories of this flick. I was surprised to discover that it's known as "I, Madman" in the US and delighted to discover it has received a DVD release. It's available from Play.com for the not unreasonable price of Ģ9.99.

I haven't reviewed it yet but I own it, its Jack the Ripper meets Nightmare on Elm Street meets Phantom of the Opera. It stars Jenny Wright (Near Dark) and I plan on checking it out again soon. I remember digging it (except for that stop motion Monhey)

I actually like stop motion so I kinda got a kick out of it's use in this movie. It's worth watching just for Jenny Wright. It's a damn shame that she disappeared from the industry. She was pretty and talented.

if jenny wright is the lead actress in this film, shes neither pretty nor talented....

Welll if you don't like her you may not want to try this movie as she's shown as the leading role and gets plenty of screen time. Personally I think she's pretty and has something special in her acting that stands out from others.
The movie itself was great fun, with some ouch-inducing moments. I havent written a review yet but have been planning to . Saw it years back and then watched it again recently on the TV. A little predictable in some ways but not all. The ending had some pretty fake scenes but nothing that killed the film. Kind of reminded me of In the mouth of madness because of the whole book element.
